Why you ask? he simply has the genetics to do so.. Another bonus is that he is fairly well spoken.. Seems to have better character and personality the Jay and would make a good spokes person for the Mr O title.

standing alone, phil is a pimp.
however, BPJ is correct about his width. He is a genetic freak, he has the same amount of muscle fibers as a top guy. They're just crunched together. Put him next to cutler and he'll just look narrow and weird.
In a depleted lineup like this though, that is fine. No one on that stage will crack top 8 at the O.

phil is a genetic freak, definitely! He has some freaky bodyparts. But he has some glaring flaws, too. Darrem was the complete professional up there, and heath was the exciting kid. Since it's theater, and not real-life, they gave it to heath. period.
*didn't hurt that phil heath is the vyotech poster boy for the next 10 years, and Vyo just giftwrapped the win ;)

From the front quads are awesome, from the side not so, from the rear not bad. His glutes make his side thigh look better than it is. Held his own from front and side yes, IN THIS SHOW.

wrong. he already has gut like all of us. this is not 200lb competitor (although many of them also have guts off) all pros over 230 present gut in the offseason and some on season too. it is mainly the way your pose ...some hide it better than others but all of us have some gut. its part of growing. wrong. he already has gut like all of us. this is not 200lb competitor (although many of them also have guts off) all pros over 230 present gut in the offseason and some on season too. it is mainly the way your pose ...some hide it better than others but all of us have some gut. its part of growing. EVERYTHING GROWS!

Shawn Ray never had a gut, even relaxed back stage and he competed at 212 pounds, the same as Phil Heath plus he is 3 inches shorter. Phil needs to do a vacuum pose to prove that there is no gut being sucked in.

Hopefully he's not goin overboard cause he's still young and has lots of time to grow and mature (harden muscle), his chest seems to be his only weakness mainly cause his shoulders are narrow but the potential is endless with him.

Dude everyone has a gut from eating food or drinking water when relaxed and that's just a fact but when somone has a gh gut it's very obivious even when they are at a low BF, that being said i have to say that phil heath has not yet displayed a unexplained gut.
One day you will lift weights and start gitting big and realize all this but unitl then f**k off with the gut shit till you know 8)

i dont know how can i explain it better. lets try
with the DRUGS WE USE TODAY every single one of us HAS A GUT MEANING: if you catch us unprepared going to do t bar raws at the gym at 5 am in the morning and have your digital cam with you and snap a pic and you are lucky and get us to wear nothing but shorts on that day you will be able to see us 3-4 months pregnent. the lighter guys CONTROL IS BETTER THUS YOU NOTICE IT LESS.

I have to tell you...I was there and he looked incredible!! He looked as if he was a seasoned pro. The way he stood there was professional, his posing was awesome...this man is blessed so as the other competitors...

GH15, I understood what you said the first time. My point was that if Shawn Ray can do a vacuum pose, he doesn't have a gut period, he isn't just controlling it better because he's lighter than Dorian Yates and the other guys. Now, on the other hand Craig Titus definitely had a gut, but when he posed it wasn't noticeable, but the second he relaxed he looked pregnant.

this is an INCREDIBLE marketing win for Phil Heath!
He has nothing to gain and everything to lose by NOT WINNING his next show, the scrub NY Pro. Phil could mil this for the next year, while working with a top nutrition guy to nail down some ronnie coleman hardness, and usher in a new era/look for BBing at the 2007 Mr O.
But, I'm sure that 3rd at the NY followed by 11th at the O and an iffy spring 07 will be just as rewarding financially. Supp comapnies love giving a dump truck of money to a guy who loses to King Kamali.

IMO the only place Heath looks good is from the side, he looks very small from the front, very narrow, small arms, no delts, small lats and no qaud sweep, the quad detail is decent but he needs tons more size to compete with the top dogs from the front and back.

He doesn't look impressive at all in the front and back relaxed. BUT, look at his fucking front and back double bi ! They are awesome.
I agree his back lat spread was week, looked like Shawn's.
Front lat spread was ok, but since he as narrow clavicules he didn't look wide at all.

he looks decent in the front double but look at his competition, Darrem and David Henry, he's going to get destroyed against Coleman, Cutler, Jackson, Baddell, Mustafa, Warren etc.

I agree, if I was him I wouldn't compete at the NY Pro and the O this year.
He should take the rest of the year off, at a good 6-8 pound and come in better conditionned at the Ironman 2007.

Cmon man..to say that he has no sweep---where are you basing that at. His sweep is better than Darrem's. Agreed, that from the side, he is not Badell, Ronnie/Jay. But he has decent sized legs and he is balanced. Darrem was larger, but comparing each mandatory shot, the pleasing lines & conditioning of Phil beat Darrem in every shot regardless of the fact that Darrem was bigger.. This kid needs some improvements, no doubt--but he will make the top 10 at the Olympia his first try/be damn close. His hype is for real instead of the nonsense we saw w/Richard Jones. Jones was completely overrated.

What jumps out at me about Phil's legs is that they are so separated and there is a great balance between his quads, hams, and calves! You don't see that real often. Guys like Mustafa, who have huge legs, often loose that detail and separation in their quads. Even Ronnie lost some as he gained so much mass. Your right though, he doesn't have the world's biggest legs but they are great for his structure...Phil isn't a mass monster. Like I said previously, we'll see how he looks next to a much larger BBer like DJ next week.

My expert advice to Phil would be, double your dosage. The following year, double that. Once that is going well, ingest plenty of GH and add a little insulin for a nice mix.
Through my years of heavy competition amongst the world's greatest at the Lavarun Invitational here in Vegas, I've seen that strategy work wonders.
Oh wait, that's the competition I run out of my house every year where I'm the only contestant. I'm 3x Winner of that now. The sky is the limit!!!

agree...some of these guys posting are living in fantacy land...Today alot of the guys going into state level shows are massive guts not only in the gym but even on stage...GH/slin is being used by most and at massive amounts...
So of these pros are better at hiding it on stage but ALL OF THEM are the "growth belly" going on...In the case of hEATH, his looks way less pronounce standing next to guys who don't know how to hide it...

the guy has more muscle in his legs then Darrem easily. Just not as separated...He does not need more size on his legs at all...Just more detailed...Darrem had tons of striations that Phil didn't but Phil has more muscle on them...

I agree- I use the word scrub show to include anything where you dont have at least 2 tier1 guys battling it out. But yeah, the NY is going to be like the Colo PLUS King, DJ, a better/pissed off darrem, and maybe a few more guys.

I don't think Melvin is even close. He never has the condition of a 93 Flex, nor do his arms have the roundness Flex was famous for. He's also not truly amazing looking, although he looks very good.
