I've already posted the way to heaven that is stated by the Christian bible, but many people have different beliefs.
Some people believe your good needs to outweigh your bad, etc. Some believe you have to accomplish a certain number of "acts" set forth in your "religion."
One of my uncles told me once that he views God as a pillar of cloud next to a huge file cabinet. When a person dies, the cloud removes their file from the filing cabinet and by reviewing how they lived their life, is granted a home in either heaven or hell.
I'd never heard anything quite like that.
Anyone care to share?

I follow the philosphy that if you do good works, and not screw over people, you'll be fine. If you try to improve your life and that of others then that is the way.

From the Quran
Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allâh and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve .(Surah Al Baqarah, verse 62)

Haider, why the distinction between those who believe vs. Jews, Christians, and Sabians? Are "those who believe" Muslims? Why are they placed of higher value than others?

A close friend once told me, the path to self discovery as Christians is through compassion and service to others.
It didn't make sense at the time but I eventually came around.
-
somewhat quoting from Scent of a woman.
"between a womans legs lies the way"
..
sorry i couldn't help myself :(

I agree.
-
Avoid the express way... instead take the road less traveled, be careful of false detours and don't get discouraged when the road gets rough.

...I s'pose that's why people scream "Oh God!" when it happens. :D

Hi, Johnny.

The way to hevon is to be kined, honest, talrent of otheres, loveing, and selfles.
-
The basic thing is to Love one another as you love yourself.
-
I think we first have to establish what "Heaven" is before we can figure out a way to get there.
Is it a place, a dimension, or a state? (...and I don't mean Hawaii, ...although it could be considered close)
discuss...

You'll be screaming for mainland in a heartbeat. {giggle}

I don't own beachfront property . . . yet, so tsunamis won't affect me or my property. The only volcano on Oahu (Diamond Head) is extinct. I've hiked it many times. :) Kilauea (on the Big Island) is active, but it's separated between me and the ocean (but I have seen it up close and personal . . . amazing site). Next!
Hurricanes maybe. But I'll take hurricanes over tornadoes, hail storms, and earthquakes. AND I'll enjoy paradise in the meantime till I'm wiped out by a hurricane. ;D

I got married on Maui. It was purty ;D
The lady that helped us w/our marriage license kept asking us if we were from the church "Jesus Coming Soon."
We didn't know what she was talking about until later when we actually saw the church and the "Jesus Coming Soon" sign outside.

Lucky you. :) Maui is beautiful. I go there a couple times a month for business. Always try and stop at Krispy Kremes and grab a box of donuts for the kiddies. :)

I believe that the bible is true (a big reason being fulfilled prophecy) and I think if you'd read it w/an open mind you'd end up agreeing.
Like you said (sort of) somewhere earlier if there is a "true religion," you'd want to believe that one. It's up to you to investigate them and either accept or dismiss them.
Zack, would you consider yourself an "agnostic?"

No STella.
I am not an Agnostic.
However, at around age 12-14 I considered myself an Agnostic.

For the kiddies? ...sha right! {giggle} When I go to Krispy Kreme, the donuts I get are for my kids too. ;)
Don't worry my lips are sealed. I won't tell a soul... if you give me some donuts. :P ;D

I believe this, if its done for the glory of God and not for humanity. The Bible tells us that our earthly deeds are like wheat that is burnt by fire.

You should try and read Nietzsche.

Friedrich Nietzsche is a late 19th century philosopher, whose philosophy stands as the culmination of modern european thinking.
Really interesting reading, and quite enlightening I might add. Though I wouldn't recommend you read his texts (since it's quite difficult to interpret if you don't have a philosophy grounding), but rather read other philosophers (sp?) that have analysed his work and thinking, like Gianni Vattimo or Katja Galimberti (don't know if there are english versions of their work though).
-
Didn't Nietzsche say...."all great things must first wear terrifying and monstrous masks in order to inscribe themselves on the hearts of humanity?"
I tells ya, I don't agree.

If you don't agree with a philosopher's thinking based on a single phrase, then you're not on the right track... However, I guess it's impossible for any kind of religious person to agree with Nietzsche. Only an existencialist could agree with Nietzsche.

Didn't he say something to the effect what ever doesn't kill us makes us better? I believe in that.
