Title: Will 2006 Olympia winner be based on size or symmetry?
Post by: ieffinhatecardio on May 23, 2006, 08:15:10 AM
With the recent assention of Phil Heath the judges have chosen symmetry and lines over mass, something they haven't done for more than a decade.

Will the biggest show on earth follow suit and choose it's champion because of his lines and symmetry or will they continue the route of massive size?

I applaud the judges anointing Phil Heath as the new star on the rise. He is nearly flawless other than the fact that he's not a mass monster.

Coleman and Cutler are mass monsters and have paid the price regarding blockiness and huge guts and I think their time has passed.

I hope this recent trend continues and the mass monsters won't be rewarded on bodybuildings biggest stage.

I can`t see it changing from size to symmetry until Ronnie and Jay have both retired. The "perfect" bodybuilder would have both, he just has not come along yet.

i cant lie...i like seeing the mass monsters...for some strange reason i tell myself that you can be beyond big and have a controlled midsection.  too bad the evidence is telling me otherwise.

in any case, i just hope ruhl qualifies for the O, i think an in shape ruhl is top 5.

The outcome depends on if the current Mr Olympia is going to compete. If so, then he wins no matter what. The rest of the placings are up for grabs after that.

Not true, otherwise gunter and ruhl would occupy higher positions. Symmetry still has some weight

It will be based on tradition and history.  When was the last time it was based on anything else?  Ronnie will win his ninth despite "supposodly" tearing his lat, quad, and who knows what else from all those years of heavy ass training.  Yates got gifts, Ronnie gets gifts, Arnold got a gift.  Haney won his Olympias.

I tend to think the powers that be are waiting for Coleman and Culter to go away before the next Champion isn't a mass monster.

I think they'll reward Cutler with a championship once Coleman retires and then the changes will take place.

In three years the next Mr. Olympia will not be a mass monster.

Who knows what Phil Heath will look like with 3 more years of training.

No he'll win some Russian show, qualify and Flex will put him on a cover and have a training article with him and Gunter "blasting shoulders European style" or some shit.

Ronnie and Jay deserve first and second right now. Jay has made some serious improvements and with the exception of last year ( I believe to carbing up way to aggressively) sports a flat midsection. Ronnie does have distention but the fact is only one who can come close to him when he is on is Cutler. Health and those guys looks amazing but you cant really compare him to Ronnie and Jay yet. Those pics of Jay recently where very very impressive. his quad sweep is mammoth not to mention the back looks wide and thick. I think he has a real shot this year.

Lol,Oh thats already happened?  Oh yea it did.  He might be cool personally but just like Gunter cant win with his smile, personality doesnt win shit in this sport. He can train in his graveyard all day but training in some dump works sometimes (Yates,Coleman) but he needs to move here train where the hell ever and get his condition spot on.  Signing exclusive with weider may help also.  ::)

Gunter should have placed higher last year. But as usual to make it easier on themselves, they'll just give Ronnie a perfect score in the symmetry round :-\!!

Great point. Bodybuilding still benefits mass monsters. The gut ruling will not affect the O and it didn't last year, either.

I think the real question should be: "Will the contest for "second" place be based on size or symmetry?"

Fedorov last....cute.

Size wise ronnie, jay, ruhl...monsters in every sense of the word.  Symmetry?  Heath, Charles,
Henry.
Obviously this isn't a healthy sport/career.  So, what message do we "supporters" send to the powers that be?
What do the people who pay the moneyfor these venues  want?  Size or symmetry?  Healthy athletes or internally diseased freaks?  When you speak with your wallet/purse businesses listen.
