Former quarterback Joe Theismann, who began his professional career with the Argonauts and later went on to star in the NFL with the Redskins, said he was "embarrassed right now to be a Toronto Argonaut" in an interview with ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd.
"I don't ever want to be mentioned in the same breath as Ricky Williams as a football player. He's a disgrace to the game. The man doesn't deserve to play football. He should go on with his life and treat his drug addictions or go do whatever he wants to do. He's been suspended from the National Football League on multiple occasions. Doesn't anybody have any class anywhere? For gosh sakes, let the kid go do what he wants to do. He doesn't want to play football,"
DO you think that its fair that Joe hates on Williams cause he is a weed head , but doesnt speak so forthright on his fellow teamates who use steroids...

who uses steroids in the nfl

Ricky is more than a casual weed smoker lol
-
from what i just read it seems joe hates ricky for something other then the weed issue,if a guy wants to smoke some weed who cares, its different of hes trying to sell weed by your kids school or something, thats a different story
-
On the other hand, Ricky is pathetic..
The good news for him is that the hash in northeastern Canada is generally more potent than the weed he's used to. ;)
-
What the fuck, Joe Theisman is an asshole. How can you talk down on somebody cause they smoke weed but then be cool with all the players using steroids and coke (which doesn't stay in you system long), i just don't like that fact that he singles out the one dude who openly admits to smoking weed and leaves everyone else out of it, it seems like he just wants a reason to not like Ricky.............. I heard a dude on ESPN radio yesterday talking about that shit and i wanted to strangle him :P The dude was talkin shit saying "yeah sending him to canada is the same as telling him to go home cause we all know why he really wants to play there........" The guy was making him out to be a drug addict of all kinds and that he wanted to play in canada just for the cheap perscription drugs and leaneant weed laws even though he can be tested up to 10 TIMES a month >:( Basically i say if he doesn't miss practices and preforms at a all-pro level why hassle the shit out of him when there is bigger problems to worry about in the NFL.
-

Joe's a little over the top but his point's valid-I'm sure he'd feel the same about anyone sufficiently out-of-control to be busted multiple times, no matter what the drug.
-
JOe is a womanizer, and has no problem with divorce...He is a disgrace to god almighty...He is such a follower...Ricky is an easy target and like all the other sheep, Joe jumps on him...How predictable
-
Anyone have Thiesman's email address? Wonder if he thinks the same way about the great LT
-
funny thing is that Joe didn't seem to have a bad word to say about the guy who broke his leg and ended his career, Lawrence Taylor and LT was 50 times the drug user that Ricky is, monster hypocrisy.
-
I think Joe probably has a bigger problem with Ricky because the guy quit on his teammates in Miami and fucked them over. Joe is probably just blaming his weed use as the reason.
-

what a waste didn't Ricky have like 1,800 yards rushing a couple of years ago?
-
Yes he is a fucking moron
-

Things happen! I'm willing to bet most of them forgot about Ricky once they got their direct deposits. People amaze me. Someone makes a mistake and a jacka$$, Blowjob Joe, will grab the opportunity to jump him... and hide alkk the s##t he has done in his life. Ricky has to answer to his god, family and true friends. Maybe I'll turn off the TV everything I see Little Hoe... b/c he cheated on his wife.
-
Who cares what Thiesmann has to say. He's a serious has been... many Redskin fans still remember the poor treatment of his ex wife Sheri and his fling with Cathy Lee Crosby. Theismann hardly has the moral standing to publicly defame anyone.
-
what a waste didn't Ricky have like 1,800 yards rushing a couple of years ago?
Yeah, the guy is talented as can be. Just a mental basketcase.
-

Have you ever played a team sport? If so, what if a teammate flat-out quit on you, I guess it would be ok,huh? Ricky quit on the Dolphins in preseason, when they couldn't draft another RB to replace him and then continued to "quit" on them by failing numerous drug tests when he KNEW he was going to get caught/suspended. Joe might be an ass, but his problems didn't affect his play/teammates.

Finally some common sense. Williams is a friggin idiot who blew up the Dolphin's entire season-no one else mentioned here in comparison is close to that category. Anyone who understands that major difference understands that Theisman's point is valid, even if he was a little too vindictive in the way he said it. It's absolutely true that Williams FU their entire season! None of Theismann's team-mates or Taylor did that, completely different scale.
Whatever Theisman's done in his personal life, IMO he understands football better, and conveys that knowledge better, than most of the weak field of announcers.
-
remember theisman, drunk as hell, at a sun night football game, hitting on the female ESPN reporter for the camera?
-
i wouldn't care if ricky williams smoked pot if:
- he didn't talk about it all the fucking time, as if it's something to brag about. ha ha, i'm a millionaire who acts like a high school freshman!!yes!! what a fuck.
- it didn't actually fuck up his retarded brain, which it obviously did. do you people remember the shit he'd say on espn? it was embarassing. i felt bad for his mother.
- it wasn't a "performance suppresant" rather than "enhancer" like say steroids.
remember, steroids have always been associated with football. (anyone remember that footage of ohio state locker room with needles and shit on the bench from the 70's). potheads were kind of the antithesis of a football athlete.
so either way, ricky smoke your shit (trust me you're not the only one) but just shut the fuck up about it and don't come fucked up to work.
-
You Americans and your stupid drug testing. Our CFL couldnt care less. Oh well, your loss is our gain.
Go Argos!
-
I really can't stand Theisman, but I agree with him on this one. Ricky quit on his teammates right AFTER the draft a couple years ago. You don't leave your boys in the trenches like that. He could have disclosed that he was a dope head and walked away before the draft.
-
Thiesman is an old man. That's the way old people think.
He also thinks Rock & Roll is a tool of the Devil.
-
remember theisman, drunk as hell, at a sun night football game, hitting on the female ESPN reporter for the camera?
That was Joe Namath.
-
Joe's a little over the top but his point's valid-I'm sure he'd feel the same about anyone sufficiently out-of-control to be busted multiple times, no matter what the drug.
Rickey is a guy with the physical, but not mental ability to play football. He is a pacifist-hippie. Not the ideal mindset for a career the NFL.
-
JOe is a womanizer, and has no problem with divorce...He is a disgrace to god almighty...He is such a follower...Ricky is an easy target and like all the other sheep, Joe jumps on him...How predictable
he's a womanizer, a disgrace to christianity and to the love of jesus
-
Joe Theisman sucks anyway. He suck as an analyst.
-
Joe Thiesman needs to get off his high horse and just fade away. Nobody cares about you Joe. Break a leg! lol.
Being mad at ricky because people are trying to extend their hand out and help(use) the guy has no substance in my opinion. He should be mad at the following: N.F.L., Dolphins, Saban, Toronto....not Ricky.
This guy was in a tint, on the moon somewhere, reading poetry with his cat "Mystic Steve!" getting his HIGH ON at one time. lol.
If I had a friend who was a crack head, hard on his luck, constantly fking up, and I won 100 millions dollars, and set him up, buy him clothes, offer him a job, send him to rehab....and this fool keeps on doing the same sh*t and I bail him out everytime!....who's the idiot....ME! ;D
As far as accountability for your actions in 2000, forget it! We have people blaming every little thing they fk up on IN LIFE on something else these days. lol
fking "spoils of war" if you ask me. lol!
-
too bad LT didnt bust his neck
-
Wasn't that Namath hitting on Leslie Visser ?? or was it Thiesman ...anyone ??
-
It was Namath.
Favorite Theismanisms:
-Notifying his wife by fax that he wanted a divorce.
-Telling an interviewer: “The word ‘genius’ isn’t applicable in football. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.”
Good announcer though, because he knows the game, as he did as a QB. Understands & explains the game far better than most of the mediocrities on the air. He might have said it a little harshly but Williams is a loser. Ironically they'll have both played for the same CFL team.
-
i remember the fax divorce announcement...classic modern method. LOL
-
Agree with Theisman. I can't stand drug addicts either.
-
Namath was the one hitting on Visser. He said "I want to kiss you" :o
-
it wasn't visser it was susie kolber daughter of oldtime radio dj gene kaye from allentown area. you should read joe's book, he believes he is every girls dream what a tool.
-
It just proves my theory that marijuana improves athletic performance. Without marijuana, Ricky Williams is nothing. All those records he broke should have asterisks because they were achieved with performance enhancing substances.
Special "Just Say No" Ed
-
Theisman sounds like a complete tool.. Ricky --welcome to Canada..
-
I totally agreed with Joe, the fool doesn't wanna play football no more, cant stay off the weed, what the hell does he wants to do. it's a damn shame to see such talent going down the toilet

Williams shows explosiveness, acceleration in training camp debut prior to this week's first pre-season game
The enigmatic Ricky Williams had a little pigskin philosophy to hand out to reporters after his first practice in Mississauga this morning: "Football is football."
Drenched in sweat after his first two-hour practice with the Toronto Argonauts at their University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM) practice facility, Williams faced a throng of press and stiff-armed their questions like the All-Pro back he was with the Miami Dolphins.
"I just want to come up here, work hard and be a better person," the 29-year-old running back said.
"There are subtle changes, but mostly it's just football," said the former Heisman Trophy winner with the University of Texas. "I just have to get in shape and contribute."
Asked how the first day went, in scorching temperatures and humidity on the practice field, Williams just gave a wry smile and replied, "I made it."
In fact, he looked to be as quick getting into the hole and cutting to the corner as he did in his heyday in the NFL, where he has been banished for this season after four failed drug tests, three of them for marijuana.
"It's great to see a guy you've been watching a long time play in our league," quarterback Damon Allen said following practice. "Everybody thinks he's just a running back but you rarely see a back who's going to catch the way he can," said Allen. "He will be a much better Ricky Williams when he goes back to the NFL."
Both Allen and Offensive Co-ordinator Kent Austin were impressed with how quickly Williams is picking up the offence after signing just Saturday.
"On the first day, he was able to see what we're trying to do and step in and do it," said Allen. "That shows he's football smart."
With a security guard close by, Williams continued to be the most popular man at camp yesterday, signing countless autographs and taking pictures with children from schools.
"It's refreshing," Williams said. "It's great to have the community a part of this team. A lot of the time in the NFL, there is so much attention on football and winning that you forget you represent a town, a city and a community."
Williams will make his CFL debut Friday in the pre-season opener against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
-

I know it wasn't Visser, I just couldn't remember Kolber's name. Anyways, I met Kolber once and she is really big into fitness. She's been hounded by her co-workers because she is ultra strict on her diet.
-
i remember the fax divorce announcement...classic modern method. LOL
The fax think was the tip of the iceberg. Old Joey boy, cheated on and was physically abusive to his then main squeeze Cathy Lee Crosby. During the divorce he hired powerful lawyers and held it up in court until she could not afford a propper defence. He left her pennyless.
Thiesman is a scumbag.

ricky is in canada to escape the child support payments that he has to make to his 3 kids with 3 different women... dude's a child
-
from what i just read it seems joe hates ricky for something other then the weed issue,if a guy wants to smoke some weed who cares, its different of hes trying to sell weed by your kids school or something, thats a different story
the rules say if you want to play you cant smoke. period. that is all there is to it. wait till way off season, go on vacation and smoke out. smoke weed or play in the nfl? hmmmmmmmmm what a tough choice ;)
-
I have Argos seasons tickets....looks like he is starting the preseason game tommorow ;D I'm not gonna lie..as an argos fan I think its great we got him...better tha John Avery
-

he's excellent but an easy target for flaming
-
Always interesting to see how a star RB used to a ton of carries does in a league with only 3 downs and a pronounced emphasis on passing. They should probably throw him a lot of passes in the flat and use him on screens.
Hopefully not another Anthony Davis. Terry Metcalf did a little better but also didn't play as well as expected.

Weed is a plant that grows on it's own natually all over the world...how many athletes drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes...much more harmful and more of a "drug". Oh...but weed is illegal ::)

I've got to agree on this since Alchohol related accidents kill an outrageous number of people and what about smoking related deaths from Cancer to falling asleep with a cigarette, the numbers are unreal.
During 2004, 16,694 people in the U.S. died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes, representing 39% of all traffic-related deaths (NHTSA 2005).
Drugs other than alcohol (e.g., marijuana and cocaine) are involved in about 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths. These other drugs are generally used in combination with alcohol (Jones et al. 2003).
You're a hell of a lot more likely to die from from a drunk driver hitting you than someone who's just smoked some weed. But alchohol is not illegal, why should weed be?
-
Because 90% of politicians smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol..they only ban things they don't care about...(ephedra, prohormones)....save the children...get rid of andro...but don't take away my cigarettes and alcohol

Pro teams cut players all the time without notice...They all play for major money first and the team second...Once they leave college, the whole "team" thing is right out the window...You look out for yourself as a pro period...
Take a look at Detroit...One of the worst teams for the last decade...Why is Matt Millen there??????????Is he the best for that team....Is the owner who pays the salaries of all the players hurting their team? I would say so and so would most people out there....Some say Millen must have pictures of the guy doing something he shouldn't...
So williams leaving his teammates? Thats is a joke...
-
smoking weed is wrong...no doubt about it.
BUT....the NFL has a problem with football player beating the crap out of their wives and/or getting DWI's.
Ricky is just another problem the league has to deal with. 'Sex cruise' ring a bell all you viking fans?
-
So williams leaving his teammates? Thats is a joke...
Not at all; just because football's a business with no loyalties doesn't justify the same in return, while causing serious, real damage to his reputation.
-

I have been wondering for a long time how Matt Millen has kept his job in Detroit. He must have something on the Ford family.

It was Joe Willie Namath.

That's a poor example: you're basically saying that because of the irrational behavior of a sad team like Detroit, William's behavior is just fine. One doesn't justify the other.
Millen's inexplicably there because of the strong control of the family. Someone making the decisions who doesn't understand football thinks Millen knows what he's doing. ::)

your right its a poor example but i'm saying that the owners of Detroit represent management...Ricky is the labor...Ricky quit his job, big deal....thousands do it every day...Contracts don't mean shit today...Management always has the upper hand...If Ricky didn't owe so much money, we wouldn't have seen him come back...Now the NFL is making an example of him...Fact is he is doing what 90%(guess) of all NBA players do every night

Joe was born and raised in Pennsylvania but played at Alabama for Bear Bryant.

Joe was the reason the AFL and NFL merged. He was a great quarterback who played on mostly terrible teams. He also suffered a lot of significant injuries. He has one hamstring that tore completely from the bone and as a result is nothing but a big knot right under a glute.
-

Not the only reason for the merger, no. The AFL was going to be on par anyway, as proven by KC winning later. As far as injuries, they were consistent with the fact that other than throwing a football, he was one of the least athletic guys on the field along with the field goal kickers. Body broke down way more than most others because it wasn't made for sports.
Great QB is debatable: low completion rates and high interception rates; over-rated, benefitted from winning in NY. Unitas was better, and probably would've won the '69 game had Shula been more flexible in giving him more playing time.
Still & always a major geek.

almost all people against weed have either not really been exposed to it or never smoked it...................... ........ ???
they are mostly white, which is very true.
And that is why more of them make money and do not end up on welfare, harder drugs or both. Please tell me I am wrong.
Dude you sooooooooo wrong, there are lots of rich and sucessful people who smoke weed or are not against it. You are just genralizing pots head with alcoholics, cokeheads, heroin addicts, ect........ Look at people who strictly smoke pot and not other drugs and tell me they are mostly on welfare or very unsucessful.

Pumpster, its proven many times over on this board you know shit about the NFL. You were the guy who said the CFL was as good as the NFL and that Doug Flutie was an all time great up there with Elway. The Jets signing Joe Namath in 1965 is well known as hastening the AFL-NFL merger.
-
Still & always a major geek.
Your the first and only person who I ever heard call Namath a geek. A guy who gave it all on the football field. Came back from severe injuries. Only guy to throw for 4,000 yards in a 12 game season. Nobody ever even threw for 4,000 yards in a 14 game season. Bear Bryant said he was the best football player he ever saw. Yet to you he is a geek? ::) You must be a real tough dude. ::)
-

Ouch, I forgot about him posting that garbage about the CFL being as good as the NFL. lol
After he posted that he forfeited the right to ever make another comment about football.
Watching Namath tell Suzy Kolber "I want to kissss youuuu" is still one of my favorite all time live television moments. I laughed my ass off.

Joe pretty much dropped out of sight after that. SI had a good peice on him not long ago.

the sad thing is that all the guy did is talk about how hot she was and how he thought she was attractive and he was raked over the coals for it but there's a million fag shows on TV nowadays and if you want to suck cock or take it up the ass you're seen as cutting edge but if you look at a woman in a sexual way you're seen as a pariah, what is the world coming to?

We have a major Namath groupie here. Only a geek would worship Namath the way this ball-washer evidently does. There can be no mistaking the reverence, it's frightening. Notice the obsession with numbers, a sure indication that he doesn't get it.
Actually genius, someone else remarked to me that Namath's a geek, it's no surprise to some.

What you angry geeks fail to understand in your ignorance is that none of the NFL guys who've gone to the CFL have done better there than in the NFL. Because you don't know that, and know precious little due thanks to naivete, I can always count on you to say the predictable.
Theisman, Ferragamo, Bellitnikoff, Moon, Metcalf, Bruce Clark, Cousineau, Fernandez, Rodgers-most of you had no idea they've played in both leagues, nor would they confirm what you're claiming. You guys are incredibly ignorant. hahahahhahah
Never said Flutie was a great QB alongside legendary names; those are your delusions. I said correctly that he was a very good QB who because he played in secondary television markets largely as a backup the last few years was under-rated. Because of your lack of perceptiveness, that went right by you.
-
yeah that's a real list of NFL superstars pumpster, hahaha, look out Elway, Marino and Montana.
-
No probs, geek. You COMPLETELY missed the point; hall of fame isn't needed to render an opinion. BTW Ricky Williams expressed the same sentiments after getting 7 yards on 4 carries on Friday. Moon's in the hall of fame. Bellitnikoff's one of the all-time possession receivers, Fernandez had good numbers with Oakland as a secondary receiver. hahahahahhahaahah
-
Actually genius, someone else remarked to me that Namath's a geek, it's a commonly held opinion that is obvious to many. hahahahhahaha
Does putting "hahahahahaha" after your post make it any more factually correct? I don't think so...
-
Great contribution there. hahahahahah
Keep it up guys, i'm lovin the classic American IGNORANCE and limited perspectives. You only know American football, and not particularly well. ;D

My contributions are short and to the point, not "long and factually wrong" like yours. ;)
Namath is not commonly known as a "geek". Geez, why can't we get these Canadians to stick to talking about hockey? ::)
Oh...hahahahaha ::)
-
Very helpful..hahahahhahahah
-
We have a major Namath groupie here.
You have it wrong Pumpster. If Joe namath is a geek what the fuck does it make a guy like you? God you are a loser. You were the guy who said Flutie was the best not me! ahahahaha
-

You are an idiot. Everybody knows those guys went to the CFL for various reasons. One big constant about all of them is that they signed with NFL teams as soon as they could.
-
the sad thing is that all the guy did is talk about how hot she was and how he thought she was attractive and he was raked over the coals for it but there's a million fag shows on TV nowadays and if you want to suck cock or take it up the ass you're seen as cutting edge but if you look at a woman in a sexual way you're seen as a pariah, what is the world coming to?
Yeah it is sad. Thats our society today though.
-
Is there a bigger GEEK than Namath?
Yeah you!
-
yeah that's a real list of NFL superstars pumpster, hahaha, look out Elway, Marino and Montana.
Yeah, those CFL clowns don't have half the rings Elway and Montana has alone.
-
Great contribution there. hahahahahah

Pumpster, Canadians are for sure good people but you and Jaguar sure are pretty insecure about yourselves and your country.

Your posts are constantly filled with anger, and not just a little. Get some help man, and work out more-obviously married life to a Canadian's not helping. You are filled with hate in your posts and come across like a rabid dog.
While you're at it learn some football-you continually bring up superficial criteria, like how many rings they've got; that's the main criteria only for a dumbass.
Further, you made the ludicrous claim that Flutie coudn't be better because of his height, when that wasn't a factor because of his ability to get outside of the tackles to throw, when needed. He did it for years and had good numbers in Buffalo, the only time he was a starter. So much for your uninformed theories.
-

You just hit the nail on the head. He wasn't a starter because he was a low tier quarterback dumbell.

I just hate fags like you.

Actually he started in Buffalo over the younger guy who was supposed to start, because he played better. The problem both in Buffalo & San Diego was his age, not the ability, dolt.

You like Flutie because you are a dwarf like him I am sure.

More of the same vindictive dellusion; have you begun the anger therapy yet? I pity your Canadian wife given your hatred of Canadians. hahahahhahahah
-
Don't forget that he seriously f!@#$^ up the Saints when they mortgaged the teams future to draft him. I realize this was Ditkas fault and not Rickys but that dude sure has some bad karma to go along with his poor work ethic.
