So far. But I know that PDI is still sharpening its pencils in the grand scheme of writing its name in the noble volumes of the history of competitive bodybuilding, and I'm the excitable type, so... you know.

I guess Wayne knows which demographic actually buys tickets and goes to shows

"You tread heavily. But you speak the truth." - Sir Alec Guinness as Prince Faisl in David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia"

This is a very interesting point.

Certainly part of Jay's appeal to his fan base is that he's white. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with that. [You notice how the Asian kids always hang together on campus?] But I always assumed that a greater percentage of white competitors in a subjective sport like bodybuilding couldn't help but come across as reeking of bullshittery. Blacks dominate bodybuilding the same way they dominate rhythmic music [blues, Motown, jazz, one great artistic achievement after another] - effortlessly, with elan, apparently by birthright. I'm OK with that - just like it feels natural to everyone that there shouldn't be more than one famous white rapper at a time. [The Beastie Boys are now more Talking Heads art-school geeks than they are b-boys - so I don't count them as rap.]

good one shawn.  You're a good representative of the sport.  I mean the PDI will probably end up like the WBF and we all know that guys like you didn't benefit from the WBF and the wieder boys having some competition, right?  I mean there were all these big contracts out there for eveyone before the WBF, right?  I know wieder had so many guys under contract before Vince started doing it.  Let's see, now I'm not a pro or anything but let me think back...hmmmmmm......who was under contract at the 90 Olympia by wieder?

Shawn, I think everyone on here understands that you are an IFBB guy, that's fine.  Great, grand, wonderful.  I think you need to start seeing the forest from the trees.  Not eveyone can pull in the kind of $$$ you did.  These guys are just trying to earn a living off the sport.  What if when all of this is said and done pro's get health coverage?  Would that be a good thing?  Of, course.  How much money has Joe or Ben given Mike Matazarro?  What if he had coverage?

Not one bad thing can come of this.  Competition is good for eveyone involved in the sport.  It's things like this that help the sport evolve, just like the WBF forced wieder to start putting guys under contracts this will incite change and that's a good thing, isn't it?

TJ deserved a pro card for the IFBB, he looked better than Marcus Haley, it was just "his time".   And if he competed in the nationals he would have smoked that guy that shouldn't have won anyways, it was Egras class.  I hope TJ does great in the PDI!!

TJ nearly turned pro at the NAs last year.  The only man to beat him was Marcus.  TJ was close too.  Congrats to him.  This guy could have turned pro in either division.   Hopefully in the PDI, TJ can keep his great shape and not be forced to put on another 25lbs which may ruin the great physique he has.

Congrats TJ!!!

I see PDI is going to at least stay with the moral background of the IFBB and the bodybuilding lifestyle alike........way to keep bodybuilding as f**ked up from one organization to another.

Thanks,

My reasons for going to PDI are...
1- I am 38 years old and have a beautiful wife and son and we are adopting a child from Asia soon. I want to close that chapter(bodybuilding) in my life and move on to other things. Like spending time with my family.
2- We were going to wait til the 2008 Master Nationals to compete for the IFBB pro card as competing in a pro show was my goal and after that I would be done. So when Wayne, myself and my wife talked we decided this would be the perfect way for me to go. I get to compete with Lee, Vince, Vinny, Jack and other very good bodybuilders in a Pro setting, and my son gets his dad back and my wife gets her husband back that much sooner. So for us it was a win-win.
3- After seeing what happened to Mike Ergas at the nationals I realized that being the best in the show does not mean that you will win, and if I am putting my life on hold, beating the hell out of my body I and others expect to judged fairly.

I am hoping to come in around the same weight as I did at the N.A's last year yet alittle tighter. I have gained 44#'s of contest weight in 2 seasons and I do not want to let my gut get out of control. My goal at the show is to be the best I can be and the placing will take care of its self. I just really want to enjoy the whole experience of the NOC and the Europe tour. I have had a lot of fun the last 3 years in this sport and have made a lot of friends and am looking forward to this last year.

Thanks to all

He is good....but the latter part of this statement is rediculous.  He would not have made Top 5 at Nationals, let alone beat Rowe.  PDI is a good move for him in my opinion.... though he is better than most Masters competitors in the IFBB.

I competed at  the 05 Nationals and in my opinion Ergas got beat fair and square. While his conditioning was slightly better he did not have the full round muscle bellies nor did he have the size that Rowe had. Jay also had better lines, aesthetics/symmetry. I have pics as evidence. I know pics aren't as good as actually being there, but I was there. Judge for yourselves.

Very true.

From the pics, it looks like Haley was off, and sported a gut.

What's up with all the teasing??? Spit it out already!! Who will the judges be and and how many more athelets are going to compete? If the PDI does a show in southern California, I will be the first in line to buy a ticket. I support the PDI!

Wow!
Thanks a lot! There will be a lot of good guys at the show. So we will have to see.
