Title: Quote on the back cover of the Pumping Iron video box
Post by: HowieW on June 12, 2006, 10:17:54 PM
" Arnold turned, what  was a cult freak show into an artform."

Still think that the freak show , on swole, freakazoid , roid monkey is the way to go???
Think again :o
From the 70's into the 80's bodybuilding contests were on MAJOR netowrk TV on a regular basis.
In the last 10 years, TV time on even the most obscure network other than PPV for the O, is NO where to be seen.
Moral to the story is , end the cult freak show, go back to reasonable, classic line physiques and save bodybuilding from a steady, continued spiral in relative obscurity.

"nuff said  , Howard....good night y'all :D

as long as steroid/doping "scandals" dominate the sporting news, bodybuilding will have to remain underground much like The Punisher.

Why do you want the general public to love bbing?  Who cares.

People are weird.  Punk fans HATE when a punk band gets some publicity because they want the band to remain "their" band.

bbing fans want people to accept it SO bad though?
I think it comes from the insecurity so many bbers and bbing fans have.  They just can't stand that someone might not like what they're so in to.

The Punisher??

Maybe you should rephrase that.

"as long as steroid/doping "scandals" dominate the sporting news, bodybuilding will have to remain underground much like a leaper.

"lepers" were sent to islands, not kept underground

This notion that Arnold was some great savior of bodybuilding is simply laughable. It was guys like Arnold and Sergio who turned bodybuilding into a freak show. They were part of the 70's generation of bodybuilders who took steroid use to a new level, and set the stage for the wholesale abuse of steroids in the 80's and 90's.

the average mortal won't discern the difference between an Arnold or Coleman physique.
