When alot of pros talk about someone getting to the 'next level',you have people such as GH15 , Kamali, and others touting the importance of genetics. Is it safe to say , that since everyone uses the same gear pretty much that you can tell how much genetics vs. drugs play a role in that persons physique by what they look like after they are off the stage.
For instance:
Good Genetics
Kevin Levrone: Slimed down consideralbly how ever still has big ass tris and is still kinda big
Dorian: Not a monster like he was but is still im guessing around 220 or so which makes him a big dude.
Haney: Still looks like he has the same size and shape
Serge Nubret, Vince Taylor ...Probably the best out the bunch
Not So good..
Ernie Taylor : Not in the game , looks like urkel with water ballons on his tris
Samir Bannout: Posed not to long ago, kind ugly looing if you ask me
Gary Strydom: When not juice to the gill, I seen pic where he looked like a soccer dad.
Wieders: they been looking old since the depression, weider principle #12 genetics is not a Weider trait, Stealing RR body for a statue is.

Dorian is fit, healthy and lean. It must piss off the other ex pros who are falling apart to see the King of slin in great shape and living it up. Despite other people talking about his 'mediocre' genetics, it looks as though he has the best of them all :)

Personally I think the whole thing of
"All Pro's use about the same amount of gear is crap"
IMO some abuse/use more than others but in the same boat some just have great genetics and do not need to use as much as others. I am sure there are still Pros that believe more is better
Look at Lee Priests coctail, if he is being serious...it is very minimal

From a bodybuilding standpoint, "genetics" just refers to the genetically predetermined length and shape of the muscles and the overall appearance of all the muscles in the physique as a whole. It could also refer to one's ability to grow, as some are more predisposed than others to gain size through training and eating (and for some, drugs) although the vast majority of people can put on size if they apply the same basic principles.
You CAN train a muscle and make it get bigger. You CANNOT change the length of your muscles, nor their shape; e.g. you can't train your biceps a certain way to make them more "peaked" if your biceps are genetically flat. Albert Beckles biceps are short and peaked, whereas Sergio Oliva's are long and flatter-shaped. You just try to make the best of the cards you've been genetically dealt.
So you can train and juice till the cows come home but if you have poor genetics you're still going to look like crap. That's what the pros you mentioned are talking about!

Dan O ...dont genentics determine how you respond to gear, training, and nutrition also ... I see where you are coming from with the Sergio example ala Levrone's bis as well.

everyone is always banging on about genetics and juice. have you ever stopped to think it might have more to do with work ethic? some pros in my opinion work much harder and are more committed than others - generally speaking, the hard workers are also the ones who achieve greatness.
this is just an example, so don't start fuking whining about Ronnie, but anyone who has watched 'blood and guts' will know that Yates trained at an intensity level far greater than many other pros. Is it just a coincidence that he was crowned mr olympia 6 times?... i think not!
I'm a lifetime natural, and have always been bigger and leaner than my training partners and friends. Good genetics?... maybe to an extent, but I'm also the only one who always eats clean, rarely drinks and never misses a workout - i've been doing this for years. In my opinion, if you are truly dedicated to the cause, anyone can achieve impressive size and strength regardless of genetic predisposition

I gotta say you must be 1 of the getbig's most common sense people without exaggeration man. Your post was well put bro

I agree about discipline, training, and consistency myself..

cheers.
I just get sick of people constantly whining about genetics and amounts of juice people use. it's not just on this forum that i see it. At the gym guys ask me if i juice, i say no, and they tell me they couldn't get that big, and that i'm just lucky and have good genetics... fuking bollocks!
when i ask them about their training, eating and lifestyle, it soon becomes clear that they are just lazy bastards who use genetics as an excuse for their lack of committment.

What's even worse are guys who juice but train without any effort or passion. I mean if you are gonna juice why not take advantage of it and train as hard as you can!

I would think that when a pro mentions the word genetics he is referring to the classic x frame.Wide shoulders, narrow waist & hips along w/the ability to put on more muscle than fat when weight training.Saying that, I agree that there is less emphasis placed on the work ethics of the person using gear when ppl. talk about it being all gear.I myself have seen ppl. that have gone the gear route that have what would be considered a classic x frame w/possibly a fault or 2 (not even x framed ppl. are perfect) & they may gain some size but are still not all that impressive in my opinion as they would be if they had a better work ethic.

I totally agree
i've got no problems with anyone who juices, so long as they are doing it for the right reason and making the most of it.
A lad I occasionally train with uses gear. He shows a level of dedication that most gym rats couldn't imagine. For him, it's a science - his training, nutrition and lifestyle are so intricately combined, it's mind boggling. As a result, he's huge and always growing. He trained 5 years naturally and has been using juice for another 2.
Although he's a very big guy, he never uses his size to intimidate. The reason he started to use gear was as simple as this - he was intrigued. Like I said, he'd done 5 years natural, was approaching his 35th B-day and wanted to experience gear 1st hand. He took and informed approach, learnt as much as he could and went for it. He's never looked back. He's a good guy and I give him a lot of respect - everything he does is informed, planned and executed in a very intricate manner.
On the other hand, there's another guy at my gym who's the complete opposite. He's probably 25 at most, is always ranting about the "harcore cycle" he's on and is constantly giving others grief around the gym. I doubt he has been training for more than a couple of years, his technique is shocking and from what I've seen, his nutrition is even worse!
These are the type of people who give the hard workers a bad name. He's smaller than me (i'm natural), looks like shit 95% of the time and is a complete girl too. It's this sort of guy that really pisses me off.
...I appear to be ranting again... ah well, I feel better after that.

Whats wrong with looking like a soccer dad?

i do think genetics are what makes the difference but success is a blend of genetics/work ethic/mental strenght/being extremly competitive
