Title: Flat feet
Post by: Bast175 on June 19, 2006, 10:45:37 AM
I have fallen arches on my feet.  No arch at all.  I keep spraining my feet running.  Anyone else have flat feet?

Anyone use special insoles?

Go see a chiropodist.

He will make you orthotics to improve your arch. Get 2 pairs, one for your kicks and the other for the other shoes you wear.

No big deal, should improve your posture when you run quite a bit.

Store bought is garbage, waist of money. They have to be fit to your feet.

You don't have to see an MD to get orthotics (unless you have insurance, then get a prescription and it will be covered most likely).

Big waste of money IMO. I've had flat feet from day one (thanks mom!). All you gotta do is find shoes that are comfortable for your feet -ie. no high arches and with balanced soles, and you'll be fine. Almost all good athletic shoes these days are pretty comfy, but can be pricey. They are worth it. I 've got a pair of Shox and they've been aces for the last two years.

/and no, having flat feet does not prevent you from building a good set of calves.

I tell my fiance that flat feet are good for hunting leopards in the jungle and climbing coconut tree's bare foot.

Mom's got me some inserts that helped me form arches in my feet when i was young....

I called em cookies and I had to wear these dumbass shoes too...but I have arches now

does not having an arch mess with your calf development???????

No not sure where that person got that information. But having flat feet puts your feet in "over" pronation flexion. So when you walk you tend to put extra pressure on the ankles and calves. It leads to over development of the inner calf head. That is why one reason when you walk for excess periods or run and have flat feet you get shin splints. Make sure when you work them out though you put special attention into performing the exercises on the ball of your feet. And when squatting you put some  small weights under your heels to push the weight from your heels DIRECTLY to avoid even further strain. I used to squat barefoot and while I enjoyed it I think it caused some problems, crap looks like I have duck feet
