That photo would be even cooler if his legs bent the other way and were out in front of him. Photoshop anyone?

The best part about that incident was Lund kept shooting.

there were spotters they did not act fast enough( i have the flex with terh story) and fux was even joking after while waiting for the paramedics saying something like "well i guess the heavy leg presses are out of the question". im gong to dig up the article.

omg, not it's "digg" instead of "bump"...damm digg effect

And who, in their right mind, would attempt such a squat w/o safety bars - at least? I knew most bbers weren't the rocket scientist types, but really, an IQ higher than 100 would realize this...what a complete tard.
ron was doing 800+ and fux was "only" doing 600-something.

Goes to show the importance of safety first. I'm prity sure that he has done this weight many times before successfully, but it only takes one time. The rack has safety poles that he could have used.

I have heard of a few people getting crushed bench pressing without a spotter or safety catches in their home gyms.

I personally have gotten surgery lunging without a safety catches, that injury required surgery, I tore my quad tendon on my left leg and had to have in reattached. took about 18 months to get back to normal. I'm back up to old strength levels now though.

You have to respect the weight.

im saying both were precontest and for fux the 600+ wasnt a stretch. patella tendon snap and the quads from the other leg follow "rrrriiiiiiippppp".

This is like BB's equivalent of the Zapruder film. Good thing Lund was on hand to capture the exact moment when Fux's career was destroyed.

Ya morbid bastids.

While the bars would have been great to save other bodyparts from injury, his tendons tore at the top of the lift, causing him to come down the way he did. In other words, the bars wouldn't have helped the initial tearing of the muscle.
The spotters? Let's see you react faster with 700+lbs coming down in front of you.

Multi tasking several replys in your second language aint easy. ::)

And I doubt his tendons tore on the up right position, its the fact they got to that nasty angle with so much leverage on them that made the real injury.

Those 8 men are to help Tamali lift his fat ass off the bench. I don't think they deal with the weights.

Does'nt look that way as the quads, particularly the vastus medialis still look attached to the tendon even in the third frame. It looks to me as though he just went straight down and back which hyper stretched the tendon causing tears to both legs.

no, the patella tendon snapped first and then the quads in the other leg ripped. havent dug up the article yet.

lund didn't "keep shooting", he was just taking multiple shots rapidly and suddenly fux went down. if you've ever seen someone dump the bar or just drop for whatever reason it happens far too quickly to react to it. lund probably snapped the photo before he realized what had just happened.

The tears must have been catastrophic & instantaneous or he would have simply dumped the weight. Happens all the time with big lifters (dumping the weight). In the 3rd & 4th shots he is in terrible position for a heavy squat and I don't see any close spotters.

Oh, "safety first"... in that case, don't even leave the house. :(

yeah he shouldnt have tried to go that far below paralell, i mean intentionally snapping your legs just to go a little deeper is crazy.

I just talked with JP about this a couple of months ago. He said that it was in no way an unusual amount of weight for him to be squatting. That's right, just another day of easy squats for JP. But sadly it didn't turn out that way.

Why would anyone with any training experience, and common sense, back squat without either spotters or, if squatting unassisted in the power rack, w/o placing the pins at just below the low point of the bar (within the confines of the rack), so as simply to drop the bar on the low pins and get out from under the weight if you can't come out of the hole??!

i usually don't need safety bars because i can dump the weight if i need to. this shows the problem with squatting heavy while so close to a contest, not to mention the "safety pad". that forced the weight high up on his neck so there was no way for him to just let it drop.

There has long been a rumour that the pros use fake plates when shooting for Flex and other gay publications. I guess Fuxy's experience proves that, at least some of them, use the real stuff.
