Title: Post workout shake question
Post by: Luga74 on June 29, 2006, 06:01:52 AM
Read on several posts that Gatorade(powdered form) is a great thing to use after a workout. I've been using OJ. Any major differences? Just wondering if using the Gatorade instead will have a better effect or just stick with the OJ. I'm sure everyone will have a different thought but look forward to seeing what you all think. Thanks

You can use almost any high-glycemic carbs post-exercise.

My Suggestion is a mix of whey hydro + malto/dextrose + leucine + creatine etc. (eg MyoZene by BioQuest Pharma)

A GI of 55 is considered low, orange juice is at 46.  The fructose in orange juice is not a good spiker of insulin.

Agreed, fruit sugar is not the best PWO.

Powderade or Gatorate powder is usually Dextrose so you're better off with that.  You can get Malto powder from www.trueprotein.com or just mix your own.

That's funny!! I thought Dextrose was simply grape sugar.

In any event, I agree wholeheartedly with the post-workout shake thing. What I usually do is have a serving of CELL-TECH, followed by 40-50 grams of whey protein. If I have the whey in powdered form, I'll drink two-thirds of the CELL-TECH and mix the protein powder with the remaining third, adding more water.

When I have the IsoPure RTDs, I simply drink one about 20-30 minutes after consuming CELL-TECH.

BTW - Mixing Orange-flavored CELL-TECH with Mixed Berry-Flavored GNC's 100% Whey Protein tastes absolutely TERRIFIC. And, that's saying something, considering that Orange is the one flavor of MuscleTech's creatine cocktail I can't stand.

Corn sugar.

Used in beer making.

Get it CHEAP at any brewing supply house.

Get your maltodextrin there as well.

I got one bag of each, dextrose and maltodextrin, 55 lbs in each.

Dextrose set me back a gigantic $45.

Maltodextrin was slightly more expensive, had me paying $100.

And just like regular sugar, this stuff isn't gonna go out-of-date anytime soon. I'm buying my next supply of post workout carbs in a year or two.

According to "FactMonster.com", it's BOTH!!

Dextrose: dextroglucose, commercially obtainable from starch by acid hydrolysis. Also called corn sugar, grape sugar.

No shit partner. Looks very suspect.

Brutal need of keeping it out of sight from female visitors.

Dextrose is just D-glucose.
The D indicates a dextro-rotary motion of the glucose.  (Dextro-glucose aka Dextrose)
Dextrose is usually derived from grape sources
