Plus or Minus 3 percent from your reading.

Don`t worry about what they read. Just use them as a progress marker.  If the measurments are going down, then what you are doing is working.

I wonder if the calipers at Gold's Gym detect synthol?

PS: I think the Getbig spellcheck should be modified to recognize the word synthol.

Use a mirror - it's cheaper.

In Adonis' case, they must be off by about 10% though.

They are a good tool for progress measuring , but you will need some one to take your readings to get a true reading , then ideally you should use the same individual each time , as individuals vary in there techniques and thus readings, most top bodybuilders avg around 4-5 % body fat at contest time some slightly higher , with dehydration this is a ideal percentage for contest , some get lower , I usually got around 3 % in my caliber readings (but I was renowned for my leanness!!!!) it is a good idea to use them whilst dieting for a show for they indicate to you lean muscle loss ,thus enabling you to adjust calories accordingly to save off being catabolic , the last thing you want whilst getting ready for a show is muscle wastage , kinda defeats the purpose of it all really !! fat loss sure , but muscle ??!!! well why bodybuild , you know what i mean !!!

if there is a university or college with a Human Performance Lab around you, you can go there and pay like 10$ to go in the hydrostatic weighing chamber---I used to work at one so I know all about it-

Its the most accurate method of measuring bodyfat u can use

 http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/69/5/898

Callibers are unaccurate but like Adonis said its good to help measure progress---- just make sure to have the same person do it each time

Actually my university has that.  BUT I want to be able to take measurements frequently so that wouldn't be convenient.
