Title: Rutten is back!
Post by: torquemada on July 23, 2006, 07:37:20 AM
W/o giving away the results, I'll just say that i'm really impressed w/ Bas's fight, especially since he came in w/ several injuries (rib and ACL).
He looked as fast as ever w/ his punches and roundhouse kicks.  He worked the body, and then, bam!  Back to the head!!!

Only complaint:

no liver shot :(

haha choppy down, cummon the guy was just a big punch bag for bas to practise on, saying that kimo wouldnt have stood a chance in hell.  Anyone think they could take ONE of those leg kicks?

It really was classic Rutten strategy; work the legs, body and head...well ;D

Props to the big guy ruben for jumping in the ring with him! He took some shots that would rock the average fighter! but those kicks even made ME grab my thigh...lol my girlfriend goes..."everytime he lands one i see you rub your leg! and you dont' even know you're doing it! "

i laughed pretty hard at that.

Either this was a set up deal or "Warpath" is a giant wuss. He didn't make any effort to attack Bas whatsoever. WTF? Why even sign up for the fight if your only purpose is to serve as a giant punching bag? I was waiting for him to pull off some brutal charge that would make him worthy of his namesake. Jesus Christ man! Better resign or call yourself Baby Huey from this point on.

Makes me wish Bas would give the UFC another chance.

he was fighting EL GUAPO! I bet there's only a handful of current guys that would "attack" him...I think he was doing the right thing and trying to feel it out! granted he didn't look like the most skillful of fighters but...he climbed in the ring with the big bas man....

i dont see many people jumping at a chance to fight a legend and get their ass handed to them... :-\

I agree with the last post, the last thing you want to do is charge bas and end up in a guillotine or with a knee to your temple.
Gotta admit though Ruben had a pretty good jaw, I like how Bas switched gears and started concentrating on his legs after he realized he won't be able to knock him out. Good strategist.

A jaw is right.  He took 5 knockout shots like they were bitch slaps.  Those same shots have knocked out opponents for years and years! fists don't work! Start chopping him down! Bas did what he does best.  Beat the shit outta people....with brains

Bas looked awesome in that footage. I am not too familiar with his fights in the ring, only having seen some footage, and of course I know his reputation as a legend.

This guy Bas fought looked pretty overmatched. How would Bas fair against someone like Wanderlei? Or is Bas considered too old for that matchup? I am curious from those of you who follow this stuff fanatically.

would love to see Bas VS Vander/Chuck stand up experts, think Bas' Chin is better than both those guys

This fight didn't prove anything.  More or less a sparring session for Bas.  I know he took the fight on short notice, but Villareal was way over matched.  If not for the reach disadvantage, Bas would have ko'd him sooner.  At this point in his career, I don't think Bas could hang with Chuck or Wandy.

Bas vs Sapp!

Bob Sapp @350 lb vs  Bas Ruten @205lb???  The Japanese love this sort of mismatch, but I don't see it happening in US.  Would any boxing commision sanction it?

Bas was the best fighter in the world in his prime, he should be able to win right?
Title: Re: Rutten is back!
Post by: IronGame on July 28, 2006, 03:20:13 AM
He is past his prime now.  Fighting a guy the size of Sapp is a difficult task.  Bas would have to use his leg kicks and wear Bob down. Hoost had some effect againt Bob, but ended up losing twice.

Sapp is Gassed after 1 round you think Bas couldnt keep him off for one round then chop him down like a big tree?

You are correct about Sapps stamina.  That is why I said " Bas would have to use his leg kicks and wear Bob down". But all that dude needs is 1 big shot, and everything changes. He is a monster.

But I can't see Bas giving him that shot...

warpath had a great chin but i think he just quit and laid down the last kick and had enough. he thought he done enough to deserve his paycheck.
hopefully bas will recover well from his coming surgeries and get to fight some bigger name. hard to draw any conclusions from that. looks to be in shape though.

Obvously you've never taken a serious, if any cut kicks to the legs? It feels exactly like a base ball bat so 3-4 shots like that and maybe ur imagination can pice together the rest ??? I've seen legs out right snaped in half when hit with a cut kick if the leg is not conditoned to take the blow!

You *might* want to consider *thinking* before u speak?

I donno just a thought ;D

ONE good shot, properly placed, will take anybody down.  Warpath took a lot of very hard shots. He was in way over his head. Props to him.

I agree, Bas punished him, esp. with those low kicks damn, he went down like a piece of timber. I've been hit with kicks like that before (well maybe not that hard) and my legs have been purple for the next 4-5 days, not to mention a nice little limp. So I can just imagine what warpath's legs were like the day after.

Yeah I agree cut kick, and try and chop that tree down. And hope to hell one of those big hands dosen't catch you before that happens!
