Title: Under Neck/Chest Muscles
Post by: smoothasf on July 27, 2006, 12:56:18 PM
ive naturally got a muscular chest on the lower half of my chest, however, i've been trying to train the top part of my chest, you know the part that looks good in a shirt,  I use the cable machines and keep the cross-overs high and squeeze tight, i also use the peckdeck alot.

I notice a difference but not as large considering the amount of work i put in/steroids i take lol

Anyone know any better exercises to isolate this area. if you still dton know what i meaheres a pic showing the area on brad pitt http://imagecloset.com/8/thumbs/t_03481005BradPittFightClub.jpg

Incline presses with dumbbells.

Agreed!  inclines are the only exercise that will build that upper portion and make sure you start off with them while you are fresh!!

i disagree youll stress delts too much if you go straight to inclines.....at least warm up with 3 sets of light flys to get the chest pre exhausted.

Ok, so no old schoolers checked in yet. The pec is ONE muscle, you can't really isolate this part or that part, but if you wanna fight me try this:

STOP your isolation work (cables and shit), that doesn't build mass. Do a severe angle incline bench, do 1 warmup set then 2 or 3 working sets with as much weight as you can put up for some reps (try to keep them under six)

then on shoulder day work the shit out of front raises using good form work on weight not reps

So many people miss inclines it amazes me.  Its in every fitness book.  Its good to ask though some people never ask.  You also need to be aware of what muscle is worked with each excercise so you know how to train correctly.  a guy in the gym the other day was using a hammer strength shoulder press; and through small talk he said it was his back day and he loves the machine cause it hits his traps. Wrong wrong.

So educate yourself through asking questions and reading!!

warm up, then hit the incline db or bb, find the right angle for you, dont come down all way to chest, i usually stop 6 inches from chest, 4sets of 12 increasin in weight if you can

i always start out with incline(except every now and then to shock chest) even though people say its one muscle you can isolate i will say this, since i have changed to starting heavy with incline my upper chest has blown up, and so has my front delts, so you need to find the right angle for you and make sure you split your workout the right way

i do chest 4x12 incline
3x12 decline
3x12 flat
flys
cable crossovers
end with a burn pump set with light db on teh incline

then ill hit back next day
then off day
hten hit shoulders
then arms
then legs

What is the reasoning behind stoping 6 inches away from your chest on incline? Just wondering...

Incline presses with dumbbells.

Bingo! And Incline DB Flys too!

i disagree you'll stress delts too much if you go straight to inclines.....at least warm up with 3 sets of light flys to get the chest pre exhausted.

Do you ever make ANY sense at all?

You want to keep ur upper arm parallel with ur shoulder joint, on flys, and benches to avoid injuries. Since it's one of the easyest joints to tear and dislocate.

I agree with the roids comment,  get a good base before you start roids.  168 at 5'11 is not anything to brag about. my wife is 5' 10" and she weights in the mid 150s.  Roids should be a last resort.  If you want to build up your upper chest to get that thick look, do incline DB presses.  This will build up your sholders and your upper chest.  Also use a spotter on these as once you get to heavier dumbells it will very difficult to get them up for the first rep. Have your spotter support your elbows when you start to fatigue.  Ohh yeah and remember to EAT!!!!  Roids may enable to you build muscle but you still need protien and fats as building blocks.  PB and honey sandwiches are what I use to ensure I am getting the calories I need for growth.
