Title: what would be whey protein for? when should we start to have it?
Post by: New_Trainer on July 28, 2006, 08:48:00 AM
what will u choose?

pure protein?
protein isolate?

or something like n-large?

I always thought we should only begin to have whey protein after we are overweighted because of weight training and not body fat, am I right on this?

I'm not sure I completely understand the question, but I can say that startig to consume whey is something you can do at any time. As for the time of day, it is best before and after a workout. Whey isolate has the most protein but can mean that the whey has been robbed of it's other health benefits, making whey concentrate the most favorable. Some ppl have bloating with whey concentrate though and that could be a problem. If this is the case then that means it wouldn't do harm to take whey isolate because you can always get BCAAs from food, especially eggs which are the best protein around as far as percentage of absorption goes.

you can use it anytime. I use whey protein by optimum nutrition mostly before and after training.

I hate protein shakes! O.k. I know they do a lot of good but still. They make me gassy and farty. Plus, I don't feel like I ate a meal at all. I have one before bed, if at all. Helps me sleep so that's good.

I'm really into fish, meat, cottage cheese nuts ect...ect...for protein...so shakes never really did me a lick of good. My nightly shake is really more of a treat than anything. I really enjoy it while winding down after work. I usually throw creatine in it as well.

My fav. is Ultimate Nutrition Strawberry (sp) pro. star whey. I think it's a blend of: concentrate and isolate. You can't beat the price and a blend's good enough for me.  ;D

I believe some BBers like Tom Prince or Lee Priest prefer food to shakes and rarely use them.

shhhhh......don't say that! It's bad for the supplement companies. You know, whey 99900.32% better than chicken, fish, eggs or diary foods.  ::)
