Title: Why use Knee Wraps to squat?
Post by: Bast000 on July 28, 2006, 10:21:02 PM
They are like bench shirts.  The elasticity increases momentum and moves some of the weight for you.    Momentum is good for powerlifting,  bad for bodybuilding.   You can squat a significant amount more weight using wraps but takes the weight of the quads.

To help increase longevity. I have always used them...just in case my knee tries to blow through the mirror in front of the squat rack!

I could see where they might be needed.  When I was doing gigantic leg presses (bad form) my knees were getting very clicky and old man like.

Ever since I cut the ego out and started doing full range squats they have got a lot better.

But if I were doing bigger squats obviously their use would be wise.

IMO.. if you're going for PLing numbers or have an injury/weakness, use wraps.  They added a good 90 lbs on my squat.  If you're healthy and BBing, leave em home.

It's always funny watching some inflexible fat cunt moaning about 'how he needs to use wraps due to his poor knees', it wouldnt be so bad if the fat slag knew he could relieve most of the knee pain by stretching his hams and quads

Ah, you have to love the powerlifting fatties

They really should put 'wotens health advice' on the side of packets of buns

True, but people who have been training heavy for years wouldn't make a difference.......beside's you warm up before you stretch anyway, don't forget to add that to your "health advice"!

yes all assisting lifting equipment are for ego lifting douchebags.

There was this paki guy at my gym a few days ago who was deadlifting the same time as me. this is the type of guy that uses  every lifting equipment possible. skinny as shit. He asked why i didnt use a belt. i just said why should i. he had to think for like 5 seconds then he replied. ive heard it good for your back keeps it straight. i replied well if you cant keep your back straight without using belt you should lower the weight. he was just like uhh oh ok...

the only assisting equipment you should use is straps.

straps are for pussy's. If you cant hold the weight, then lower it, this isn't powerlifting it's bodybuilding. ::)

you obviously know nothing about bodybuilding. in some exercises its impossible to hold on to the weight and get your back exhausted before your forearms are. there is a big difference, that is not egolifting.

i only use em on the last set especially if im lifting a heavier weight for the first time. my knee wraps have come undone on the first rep or 2nd rep, and ive continued without em.
wraps raise the hydrostatic pressure within your knees, thus lessens injury.

Ronnie and Dorian use em dont they ::)

I'll use 'em for my heavy sets as well. I like my knees the way they are. Intact.

The beast uses them.  Checked a coaching board.  NFL guys use them.  All pu$$ies.  I guess the more you have on the line, the more sense you have.

Only a fucking idiot would make a generic statement that you should never use wraps for knees.

We all have kness in different states of physical health. My knees are shot to bits and i certainly use them for heavier sets and also for lighter sets in cold weather. I find wraps keep the heat in the joint. Just what my knees require.

Something is wrong here.  2 of the 3 best MrOs used them.  I guess that's how they got that good by letting the wraps do the lift?

When I used to lift heavy( which is relative) with the boys who I trained with, I was only allowed to use what the boys used.
The dumbbells, bars, plates.  Gloves were for girls.  Never saw straps or wraps until I went to the Apollon Gym where muscleboys workout.

Now, I use magnesium chalk for a better grip.  I have lovely calluses.

............................................................................................................
I say if your so weak that you can't handle enough weight to justify wearing wraps then leave the gym.

The patella and quad tendon will not handle enormous loads without damage.  If you want to be like me and squatting heavy 25 years after you started training then WEAR WRAPS.
