Title: Gurgel vs. Abaddi?
Post by: danielson on August 01, 2006, 05:21:11 PM
I just read that this is going to be on the undercard of an upcoming ppv. wtf? Gurgel sucks and Abaddi(although a fellow tkd practicioner ;D) is a can. Anyone think Dana is just giving Gurgel a can to fight cuz he is friends with Franklin?

no

Then why let Abaddi fight again? I think Gurgel has a ton of heart and I have seen him fight well before the ufc, hell even his fights with Von Flue and Hominick were entertaining, but Abaddi? He is a HUGE step down in terms of opponents.

well considering he lost some of his most recent fights, maybe this is just a tune up fight.

I'm sorry losing to Von Flue makes him good? Hominick is no joke, but Von Flue? come on :-\  I am referring to what he has accomplished in the ufc, not the potential he showed coming into it. And actually my argument wasn't Gurgel as much as why they would let Abaddi fight again, he is a total can.

I agree that Vonflue faught sloppy, but he can only progress, they obviously he thought he was good enough for a spot on the ufc.

Gurgel fought on TUF with a severely torn ACL (as a result of a Masakazu Imanari heel hook, Gurgels only loss at the time), and in addition to that he moved up in weight from 155 to 170 to basically fight bigger guys who have fully functional limbs.  In his fight against Hominick, not only did he hold his own in the stand up department (something not even Yves Edwards could do) his ground game had Hominick so scared that he literally turned his back and ran like a coward in fear of being taken down, and yes Abaddi is a can.

agreed. Like I said what does he have to gain from a fight with Abaddi other than a first and easy victory?

yes, but he has had two chances. imo he should fight someone with some skills. Abaddi sucks. I think it is just for an easy win.
