I think you forgot Haney!  He dominated an era largely based on his back development and certainly deserves mention.

Hulkster's comparison shot is 100% better than that garbage IronAge conjured up.

Ronnie yes, dorian yes.

Arnold? Hell no!!

Piss off to ironage if you honestly feel that way. There are far superior backs out there.

3rd pick could be anyone between haney, bannout, robby robinson.

I'd probably go with bannout for third.

Then again for all his faults (and trust me he had many) franco columbo had a unique back, lowest lat insertions ever!!

HUGEPECS doesn't really think Arnold has one of the greatest backs.

He just found a convenient pic, and thought he would be clever by posting it.

Little did he contemplate the fact that the pic has been posted eleventy billion times before.

Yeah. You gotta sneak Lee in there. Those would be the top 4, but if you can only pick 3, then I'd get rid of Dorian - as good as his back was.

Do you belong to ironage?

The fuckin audacity.

Dorian wrote the book on back muscularity and thickness.

I would always include Arnold no matter what. After all, he was the Original, and I dont give a Shiiiite who thinks Arnold dont deserve to be one of the top backs. The comparison is fair, giving the fact that each one is from different period. Regardless, Arnold would still be the" ALFA AND OMEGA"

Actually it wasnt. I believe it was taken 2001 or 2002. Its just a bad shot thats all.

Fantastic reasoning there.

Why don't explain why arnolds back deserved to be on the list based on its merits not whether "you give a shit or not"

We're talking about time and period. If Arnold were to compete these days against those guys, he wouldn't stand a Godamn chance, Just like haney said a couple years ago, if he had to compete against coleman, he would lose, everytime.

back in Arnold's days, having a huge back was not what the focus was all about; but at the same time, no other guys whom he competed with had a better lat spread. it's the period and time that he dominated

Another Arnold groupie. Never had a great back lat spread.

Support the argument the way that Iron Age shot of Arnold did?  ::)

-Yates had a great back with unusually great density, dryness and detail I've seen only on a few others like Robinson & Columbu. Too bad about most of the rest of him.  ;D

-Coleman's width & taper is unreal.

-Robinson. The only guy I can think of with size who was drier with more density than Yates, in some pics.

-Columbu
Title: Re: The 3 most legendary backs of all time...pick yours
Post by: pumpster on August 08, 2006, 11:03:05 AM
Haney didn't look nearly as good from the back: good taper but a little soft & lacking in detail. Maybe there are some better pics somewhere otherwise he has a better taper than Yates but nowhere near the other qualities.

there is a never ending thread about Ronnie and Dorian's back. I could not argue which is better between those two, as each one of em is unique, but at the same time both guys competed against each other at one point. Arnold belonged to the tall class in his time, and the Mofo was huge anyway you looked at him. I still believe he dominated his ERA up until retirement. Maybe, Lee haney took back development a little further, but the real back MADNESS started with the Shadow.
Title: Re: The 3 most legendary backs of all time...pick yours
Post by: pumpster on August 08, 2006, 11:27:39 AM
There were several guys from the 70s with great backs including Columbu, Robinson, Oliva and Callender. Haney was no better than them. It was only with Yates and Coleman that there was a difference.

Interesting that he knows for sure that i meant it. He also leaves out the huge distortions in his versions, and the fact that he's obsessed on his own misinterpretations for over 4 months now and brings them up on a weekly basis.

How empty is his life that what I say excites him this much? hahahahahahaahahah

I think he should go back to trolling the other board, where he can continue to attack Canadians and other non-Americans who don't share his hillbilly views, while he continues to be married to a Canadian. Truly an anger-filled loser with issues.

That one is one of his best. Arnold's muscle being somehow less "real" than the guys of today. Despite the fact the guys of today take so many more drugs to attain thier physiques. Great logic on Pumpsters part.

here's some great backs that never ever get mentioned for some reason:

tony Pearson-dude was w-i-d-e and had awsome detail.

Mike Christian-Dude's back was probably 2nd best in the late 80's behind haney.

Labrada-top to bottom, he had it all, great muscularity, x-mas tree, hamstrings, calves...one of the most complete guys of all time.

late 80's..samir never really got back into his olympia winning shape after 83...his comeback was ok but he was not really a front runner anymore.  Still thick and impressive from the back but never showed the detail needed....I guess he got into shape when he won one of the grand prix shows in 90 but that was it.

Arnold is great what he did but, when it comes to his body, even he cant win against amateurs of now a day.
No legs.No super cuts. Small deltoid. Small triceps. Only things that he can compare with present BBer are his biceps and pecs. Thats all.
Again,he was the best in those days...
