VENICE BABY!!!!!!!!!!
-
Have you been to Gold's Venice? Unlike the old one, this new version's looks like any other Gold's around the country-antiseptic compared with old-school gyms or Metroflex.
Unfortunately, it's not close to Venice beach either, which takes away from the vibe that existed with the old Gold's.
-
Gotta be venice.

Only every Saturday!
And it's ONLY two blocks to the water. We walk there after the Firehouse.
The "old" Gold's Venice isn't on the beach either. You still have to walk a block.

Indeed I have been to the Gold's Gym in Venice and trained there for a week while on vacation. And the 'new version' separates itself from any other Gold's Gym - it captures the essence of bodybuilding [mecca].
MetroFlex looks like a good gym - really.
But I'm just hung up on the electrifying atomsphere and location of Gold's/Venice. 8)

Dammit you, Freakshow! I hate you! >:(
Seriously, you're lucky! :'(

hahahaha, "electrifying", that's why everytime you see a BFTO video the only people you see in Gold's venice is a bunch of 135lb. metrosexual dudes, 55 year old housewives and skinny women. ::)
-

Which Chris? Can't be Cormier 'cause that boy doesn't live in Los Angeles anymore.

dude, you are an idiot.
I train there. No, I'm not saying I'm the model of excellence or anything, but you will see many, many people in top notch shape there. It doesn't matter what time of day you go there- there is always a certain level of energy there and expertise.
I've been to many gyms in my life and Venice Gold's is the best I've ever been to. The only problem I have with them right now is the fact that they don't have a real t-bar row- they only have one of those shitty chest supported ones. The old real one broke a few months back. Besides that, they have the best equipment in the world
-
Both are good if you are in the mood for a heat related death. 8)
Except for the occasional heat wave, it doesn't get that hot in venice. it is too close to the beach for that

ok, "willie" you probably train just like those little pansies and queers out there so you can relate to them.

until his unfortunate incident in NJ, he was living here. I saw him training there a few months ago

you are an ignorant piece of shit
have you actually been there?
I train recreationally. I've been training for 15 years, just for fun. so no, I'm not a great "bodybuilder". I don't even consider myself a "bodybuilder". however, I'm not weak or small, not that that matters for anything in life really.
If you actually trained at venice gold's, you'd see some serious dudes and women there. there is a reason why it is called the mecca. it isn't a myth

Today, it's a 24-Hour Fitness with a few bodybuilders and wannabes sprinkled in.

Golds was better 8 years ago.
They got rid of some cool old FLEX and Icarian gear and got nautilus nitro (good ab machine though) and the Free Motion garbage.
Good they kept the original series hammer strength though.

Yeah, people get pissed when you post things that are completely ignorant
That's when you gotta let it just roll off your shoulder. There are a lot of clowns up in here. This is a circus ya know! :D

Anyway.... back to Gold's/Venice. I'm hoping to make the pilgrimage back to Venice again for a few days and train at Gold's.
-

-

One reason being that after Pete sold it the new and current owners charge vendors a kickback fee for referals. Pete and them never did that. Every piece of equipment in Gold's Venice was never paid for. It was given to them free of charge. The companies knew people would comethere and see what they had and would want it for their gyms. Gold's vendors back then didn't have to pay a kickback and could give better pricing to the gym owner. It's different now and they have ruined once was thebest gym chain in the world. They even moved the corporate offices to Texas.

Are you kidding, bro? Texas is full of hot women.
Plus, Metroflex is only 4 blocks away from Krispy Kreme.
Without McFarland, your little Venice Gold's is just a foo-foo gym these days.

Cormier is never there anymore. I think he's training at Curves ;D

Golds Venice is an impressive gym and huge. I don't really care for all those separate sections except for the cardio machines in the last unit.
Because they have equipment companies giving them equipment they also have to keep that equipment either in a line or in the same room or area. If you want to train calves you don't have all the calf machines together which sucks. They make enough money but that cheapskate approach to equipment isn't what a gym leader should be doing. There are a lot of machines they don't have nor are there enough of certain popular machines. There was no kneeling triceps extension apparatus for example. We have 3 in our gym. We have machines that no other gym in the world has because I designed and built them. I doubt any gym can claim to be fully equipped. They should be buying the best equipment for each bodypart and have several variations for those parts. Then put all the arm machines together and so on. That would be amazing. They haven't been original in much at all that I have seen. Joe started something with a purpose but after he sold it various owners tried to turn it into a money making enterprise and it lost something in the process. There is never a sense of belonging there like there was in the old days.
The last time I was there was in September 2004 the day after Labor Day and the place was packed late morning. I was impressed. That place has always been impersonal and you have to hang around a while to get to know people. I guess it is in a short list for best hardcore gym in the world.
-
Vince enuf of the kneeeling tri machines already
-

Evolution Fitness right around the corner from Gold's in Pasadena is much cleaner. Not "hardcore", but a much nicer gym.

Let's see, there are many exercises for triceps without the machine you keep talking about
1. Behind the neck dumbbell extensions
2. skull crushers
3. close grip benches
4. dips
5. cable pushdowns

What a dumb question...as if there is more than one person on this board that's been to both gyms. Which hotel is better in Dubai -- the Burj or the Ritz?
Special "Frommer" Ed

exactly
i've only been to gold's venice.
don't feel like going to texas just to train there. i'm sure it is a good gym though if ronnie can train there effectively

first thing that occurred to me when I read the title was "a hard core gym in Arlington? I'll have to check it out the next time I'm in D.C."

Actually Vince is right. A gym with Gold's rep and the ability to get virtually any piece of equipment for next to nothing should have (1) virtually every known type of equipment, and (2) the equipment should be organized by muscle group.
Joe Gold was an equipment innovator. That Gold's currently is not what it could be is unimpressive; of COURSE the crowd at Gold's helps make up for that but it's not as good as it should be and was. The fact that they relocated and aren't close to the beach now also changed the dynamic for the worst.

Joe Gold was an equipment innovator. That Gold's currently is not so is unacceptable.
Since Pete sold it it has changed in that too. I am pretty sure they only carry equipment from Licenesed Gold's Gym vendors. SO this limits what they have. QUite of few of the vendors decided not to be with Gold's because they now charge them a commission for equipment they sell to the gyms. They never did that before. It's all about money now with Gold's and it's nothing like it used to be. They are shooting themselves in the foot because they are greedy business people now and not true lovers of lifting or the gym industry.
-
I wonder how the original World Gym in Venice that Joe set up compares; I know it was well-regarded back in the day.
I realize that real estate price could be a problem but the best thing was having a good gym in proximity to the beach, like Gold's and the Dungeon were.
-
meltdown.
I´m new to this place, but I have been here long enough to see that one coming ;D
-
I wonder how the original World Gym in Venice that Joe set up compares;
The last World's is now a kids gymnastics center. the current World's is nice, somewhat small, hardcore, and miles from the beach.
-
why you feel you need all that fancy equipment anyway
-
until his unfortunate incident in NJ, he was living here. I saw him training there a few months ago
He'll be back.
-

Yeah. I've been to that gym as well. It's a very laid back, quiet gym. I don't think it's 'hardcore' if you will - at least not when I went.
-
Which hotel is better in Dubai -- the Burj or the Ritz?
Duh! That would be the Ritz! :D
Slick "Love my Threads" Vic ;D

DOesn't Tony Nowak operate his business from the old (1st) World Gym. I know Joe made it into his house I think.

before vince posted a picture of his triceps machine, who on earth even knew such a thing existed?

Venice hands down.. Besides, I don't think I would appreciate some idiot shouting "YEAH BUDDY!! LIGHT WEIGHT!!!" every 10 seconds.. I'll be tempted to shove a 10 lbs plate into his mouth to STFU

metroflex wasn't like that before ronnie won the title.
I'd prefer to train in temple gym
-
I'd prefer to train in temple gym
Over Gold's/Venice or MetroFlex?
-
Over Gold's/Venice or MetroFlex?
I think I would prefer the more quiet atmosphere of Temple. If both were unoccupied, it would be a push between metroflex and temple. To me, Gold's venice is a joke...way too many people, no hardcore training....just not a conducive environment to good training.
-
Gold's venice is a joke
:o
I can't believe you just said that! :'(
