I'm new to Getbig, just registered and started posting, but I've been in the sport for a long time. I have a fairly large archive of BB videotapes. I'm gonna go through them and upload a bunch of videos to Youtube for your enjoyment. I've been looking for stuff that hasn't been posted before. What you are about to see is a video of perhaps our sports most embarassing moment.
Back in 1990 Vince McMahon (of professional wrestling fame) created a rival BB organization called the World Bodybuilding Federation(WBF). Several IFBB pros defected to the new organization and only 2 WBF championships were held ('91 & '92) before the WBF folded. The WBF was like a mixture of pro-wrestling and BB where the athletes had personas and they were referred to as BodyStars. Because Vince McMahon was under federal suspicion for steroid distribution, the 1992 competition was drug tested. The drug testing probably affected Mighty Mike Quinn the most as you'll see in this video. I don't think BB could get any worse than the WBF and what you see here. Pay attention to the announcers to, Chick could pick up a few pointers from these guys ;).
Brace yourself and click the link:
Here are some pics of the Mighty Mike Quinn in case you are not familiar with him:

How was it like a mixture of bodybuilding and PRO WRESTLING....
...when
THERE WAS NO WRESTLING????
You sir, are a complete and total moron. No crawl back into your 'Lost' hatch and crash land on some other website.
Special "8 13 15 23 45 48" Ed

I only looked at this thread to see what SpecialEd would use as his signature...it's different everytime.

man all this trying to make bodybuilding more entertaining is such bullshit.
MUSCLE is a great product but things are being screwed up.
The shows are TOO LONG... 2 hours is all you can expect a fan to sit still for... make the guys pose for 2 minutes tops and hit their best shots... no more 5 minute routines where they walk up and down the stage asking for applause (I hate when guys do that... very unprofessional).
the stages are too cluttered. the bodies are being overtaken by the backdrops.
too many guys are allowed to pose at night... top 15 only... if you aren't good enough see you next year buddy.
the announcers crap on too much.
if they cut back the shit they'd have more time for the final build up to the winner and be able to have an extra final 2 or 3 man comparison/posedown to build up the excitement... right now everyone is so tired by that stage they just want to go home...
-
Anymore WBF clips would be appreciated. I have never seen any of them, as bad as that one was it was entertaining, in a painfull type of way.
-
I have the whole pay per view event recorded, I'll upload them little by little. Figured I'd start with the worst ;)
-
Hey, not for nothin, but even in this horrendous shape the guy was putting it all out there and was not affected at all by his poor condition. Many people would have ZERO confidence to be out there like that in front of a audience of BB fans, but he obviously was not. Good for him. I know Mike from the gym and he's a good guy.

I agree, I don't know how he did it, I would have claimed I was ill and not shown up but I think they were all under contract and had to go onstage no matter what otherwise there were huge penalties.

could BB sink any lower than the WBF?
Sure it can.....
welcome to the PDI!!
-
Mike Quinn, the original
bad fat boy of bodybuilding!

Did I hit the Powerball Bonus?
Special "MegaMillions" Ed

I've gotta say, as bad as that was, it was 10x more entertaining than an IFBB show today.

Do you have the Tom Platz UK seminar tour tape from, I think, 1990?
If you do you have to upload the part where Tom does leg extensions.

Wasn't he wasted on cocaine there? I seem to recall he tested positive for it in the WBF. Maybe that's why he felt confident.

Now THAT was funny!!!!!

Mike Quinn, the original bad fat boy of bodybuilding!
Fat with no calves. He's also a hammy actor with a lousy attitude. He's always bragging about how strong and tough he is and how he built his physique naturally.
-
correct me if i'm wrong Bob, but isn’t wrestling far more popular with the mainstream public and more accepted than bodybuilding i.e: people turning up for shows.....payment the performers receive etc etc???
As much as I don’t like the video, I bet my money that in this day a show like that would have all the young guysand even girls going nuts.
young kids going nuts over this means more money for athletes, better venues, bigger crowds......and one more thing......recognition the main stream.....something pro BB will never have with the direction its heading.
-
Well one thing Mike Quinn's done that is for damn sure tough, he witnessed Flex Wheeler get measured with 0% bodyfat at Gold's gym.
-
That was Jim Quinn, and it was 0.0%.
The lowest ever recorded at Golds apparently...
-

You didn't actually pay for tha garbage did you?
-
Yes thanks, I'd like to see more of it. And I agree, its terrible. Did they dub in crowd cheering at times during that show? Hilarious
-
I would have liked to have seen Strydom in the O in the early 90's. He would have taken some heads.
-
McMahon was a fool for taking on bodybuilding. He did well to cover his bases with the contraversy/soap opera style that he's famous for with professional wrestling but the overwhelming fact that the crowd are watching a guy in a thong pose just wrecked it.
Whatever steam Quinn generated by that poorly acted out crap at the start eroded when you realise that for the next 5 minutes he's going to pose and do nothing else. McMahon was trying to sell this shit to the rednecks and dumb people and they're definitely going to be feeling a bit gay when they realise that there's no ardent male bonding in the ring, just greased up dudes in thongs on stage.
Anybody who studied bodybuilding for a few contests would realise the intensity level of the performance completely dips as soon as they have come out. There's no avoiding that. Kamali and other guys have tried but its never done with any success.

Bob, Bob, Bob. Coming out of the 90 olympia how many guys had contracts? How many guys had good contracts? How many guys got huge deals to not sign with the WBF? how many guys made a ton of $$$ because of the WBF? The WBF, from a competitors side was one of the best things to happen, ever. I'd think that as an atheletes rep you'd look at this as a good thing.
-
He doesn't care about the WBF, he just took the opportunity that was hand delivered on a silver plate to bash the PDI as usual.
Nothing new there.
-
Rammer, thank you for that hilarious clip. More please. would love to see Strydom and Demeys routines, plus jim quinns , hell i wanta see them all..... i miss the late 80's and early 90's

well, at one point it was said that Vince Taylor was the most entertaining bodybuilder on stage, remember the Terminator walk he used to do..lol..oh, remember the Eye Patch he wore at times ;D
-
Vince only did the WBF at Shane's behest. Shane lived up the street from Me at the time in a condo Vince owned. Both Vinces's kids went to Roger Williams University, college at the time, and Shane used to train at the Gym I trained at. He had a passion for bodybuilding, but as you can see never could make anything of it himself. Vince never lets him forget about it to this day. The funny thing was that Shane was a business major ??? and that was His first $$ venture involving the WWF/WWE.

Okay, just for you I uploaded Berry DeMey's routine. I'll do "The Future of Bodybuilding" Jim Quinn and Strydom too but you have to see Danny "The Giant Killer" Padilla's routine as well which will probably be next. Here's the link to DeMey's routine:
The first 4 minutes is supposed to be a James Bond rippoff but it looks more like a cheesy soap opera/soft porn movie. Stick with it, he'll eventually pose.

It's been years since I've seen that! Thanks!
But it certainly did have a porn flavor to it! ;D

monster striated glutes on mike quinn ;D

I guess it would be hard to carb-load/deplete while in prison. Someone needs to get the low-down on this from Titus in an interview soon. I know New York has a state-wide prison bodybuilding championship. I wonder if Titus can find such a venture out west?

Chick, even if the PDI doesn't exist, if it's all made up and a farce, there's no way it's worse than that soft-core porn intro to Berry Demey's routine. >:(

Even though rediculous the wbf seems like it was entertaining.
