ok, so what is the deal with regular pasta? is it ok to eat or not? i have whole wheat pasta, and its ok, but its a little grainy and not quite the same. growing up i always thought pasta was supposed to be good for you, but i keep reading it is a "bad" carb, so whats the deal? princess L, anyone who actually knows, any input is appreciated. thanks

well its a bad carb if you are on a cutting diet or trying to get ready for a show.
if your not i wouldnt worry too much about it...just have it in moderation...the whole wheat pasta is higher in fiber and considered more nutrtitious that regular pasta wich is made with white flour/semolina...but i agree, the whole wheat pasta just isnt the same.

Semolina Pasta has a lower GI than Whole wheat actually.
Both are just fine to eat Pre-Contest or whenever.
These people are dumber than rocks.

100% whole wheat durum pasta has a gi of about 37... that's the optimal choice if your looking for a pasta for the lowest gi.
the glycemic index is important but can be overrated.
our definition of a precontest diet is very different...as you have also said milk and fruit should also be a part of a precontest diet.
if i was coaching someone for a competition my goal would be to bring them in as tight and dry as possible...while your goal would clearly be to bring them in with that somewhat smooth, watery look of the bodybuilders from the 60s and 70s.

Barilla appears to have several varities of pasta, one being high protein. Don't know about taste and texture since they don't seem to market the 'PLUS' line in my area.
