Title: Best Movie Soundtrack?
Post by: JasonH on September 05, 2006, 10:24:07 AM
Me and a mate were discussing what we thought was the best soundtrack to a movie of all time was - was wondering what you guys thought?

My favourites - Superman theme, Dragon the Bruce Lee Story, and possibly either Gladiator or Dances With Wolves.

Discuss.

If you like Curtis Mayfield the "Superfly" soundtrack is excellent.

The film was a bit shit though.

The "Jackie Brown" soundtrack is also pretty good

There can be only one:

Pulp Fiction

Most of us have played that CD until it burned up or we eventually got tired of them, but still...

All the songs - perfectly matched for the movie. Almost seems like Tarantino picked songs AND wrote the stories simultaneously -"counting flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all" - and it made for an awesome blend.

Watch it again. You'll be amazed at the great dialogue, camera work, everything.

It may be one of the best movies ever.

Quite interesting.

YIP
Zack

PS Sometimes people ask me which is the greatest porn movie ever...

I think "Rocco Siffredi: Animal Trainer 2" has a solid case for that title.

Thinking about it a bit more, the Jaws theme has to be the greatest.

Bullitt and the French Connection had some good 70's jazz soundtracks

West Side Story is fab.

Also BeeGees (Saturday Night Fever/John Travolta/Staying Alive, for which they didn't even get an Oscar nomination.

The other one I really loved was Sid n Nancy.  It's none of it original Sid, it's haunting or something.  (just looked it up, it's the Pogues and Sinaed OConnor 80s

Yeah, flossing with your mom's pubic hair is becoming a big problem.  They are too long, it's too much trouble cutting them in two.

Some of you are confusing soundtrack with score.  A film's score is instrumental and written specifically for the film and for specific scenes.  Although they are available for sale, the audio tracks from a score are rarely heard or listened to outside of the narrative of the film.  Superman and the original Star Wars movies have distinctive and recognizable scores, but almost no one walks around with those songs on an ipod or CD.

A film’s soundtrack is a collection of songs that may or may not have been written for the film and are audio tracks that people often hear and enjoy independently of a film: on CD, the radio, etc.  The movie Flashdance had a very popular soundtrack when it was released.

Some films have a score and a soundtrack.  The original Batman movie hand songs (soundtrack) by Prince and a Score.

The AMPAS awards Oscars for Best Original Score and also for Best Original Song (usually sold as part of a soudtrack CD).

There are many many good & outstanding soundtracks, but the 1 that stands head & shoulders above anything is undoubtedly............. QUADROPHENIA.

Braveheart.  Great soundtrack or score, whatever it is.

Any Tarantino movie has a great soundtrack.  I like Resevoir Dogs personally, but Kill Bill is good as well.

Yep - got to agree with Kill Bill - one of the few soundtracks I have on CD.
