Title: Why all the John Romano bashing?
Post by: BM OUT on September 11, 2006, 05:04:41 AM
I see this guy get bashed on here all the time.I dont get it.I read all his stuff and agree with him about 95% of the time. His articles are always interesting and his hatred of the government is the same as mine. Why does he get so much crap on here.He is 100% right regarding steroids and 100% right regarding these boards. If you dont have the nads to post a picture or post with your real name, you shouldnt be allowed to rip into guys that are light years better then you as bodybuilders or powerlifters.

A specific example:

Instead of critisising Peter McGough of FLEX for his faults, Romano gets personal, taking cheap shots.

This is an example why Romano is a POS.

I don't understand why you would support a guy that repeatedly weasels out when the heat turns on, hides behind Steve Blechman. A guy that repeatedly takes cheap shots and bashes FLEX with childish arguments, then runs to Blechman as a fcuking cry-baby.

If you don't have the nads to read people's honest opinion or opinion custom tailored to make you meltdown you're not a man, you're a mental midget without any control over your emotions.

ok "Billy Mimnaugh", hahahaha, don't you have a couple of extra large Pizza Hut Meat Lovers to devour so you've got energy for your 2 sets of three rep bench workout, hahahahaha, monster overestimation of caloric needs and bodyfat deposits.

John says alot of things like "from my own personal experience" or "with my own two eyes" when he says this, he means with Steve Blechman's own two eyes. These two guys sort of live vicariously through each other. John needs to spend less time bitching and more time doing his fucking job of "editor". What the fuck man, this magazine does not get "edited" we all know that. Spelling and grammatical errors every 3rd line.

John is a pretty insightful guy so why on earth he doesn't "get it" when it comes to message boards is beyond me.

He would be well off to take a course in social psychology.  The reason why people act differently on message boards is because talking to people through computer monitors makes it easy for a person to distance themselves from the usual dynamics of communication and with that, some tact and general courtesy.  This isn't very complicated.  John may think that the people who post here are caustic or sick people but they are not.  They are just normal people thinking the same things that normal people think.  Point is: on here what they are thinking comes out.  In person it does not, either at all, or at least no in the same manner as it would on here.

You know sarcasm,Ive challenged you anytime.I will be doing the NPC New Englands in May.Certainly thats enough time for you to get ready.I wont bother to challenge you in powerlifting because that would be like having a battle of wits with an unarmed man.So anytime you want to step up and go onstage and compete against a fat guy like me,let me know.Unlike most of the gutless cowards on here ,I actually do compete and put my reputation on the line in both powerlifting and bodybuilding.I dont need fake names and fake strength claims or need to threaten to beat somebody up that I will never see in my life,I actually am willing to back up my words onstage or on the platform.By the way,I dont eat pizza,it reminds me too much of the skin on my back.

Funny, cause even Blechman said that Romano lies.........

EDIT:  Before someone calls me on it, here it is:

"He may have gone a little overboard with creative license, but that’s John’s style." -Steve Blechman, on Romano's exaggerated take on Blechman/Pecker meeting.

Other than his well-established rep for starting rumors, grandiose speculation, and flat-out LYING?

Come on guys - John Romano speaks his mind. However, sometimes he goes way too far. Way way too far. But this is a fued that started over 10+ years ago. I am finalizing the interview with him (one of a few interviews that I am working on) and hopefully will finish it very soon, so you know who is the man behind such big words.

Oh, and don't be afraid to say hello to him at a contest (some of you know who you are). He hasn't bitten anyone yet, although his bald head and tattoo's might look intimidating.

Yeah, I know.

I just thought it was funny that even his boss would admit to Romano being a liar...... ;)

That's just exaggerating.  Like if I said something like, "I saw John Romano giving a drunk guy CPR at a party all night long", that would just be an exaggeration for "John is always friendly around bodybuilders."

For the most part I enjoy what Romano contributes to MD . . . for the most part.

But, for the love of God, he needs to drop his childish and school-yard attacks on McGough. The fact that he continued, for God knows how long, with his baseless attacks and childish insults without McGough giving him the time of day, seemed to inspire him to go further-n-further.

I have more enjoyment watching my nails grow than listening to Romano bitch 'n moan about Flex and McGough.

'Nuff already, John!!!  ::)

From the sounds of it, he does some classic test/dbol types of cycles maybe once a year or so, but he cycles with at least as much time off as he does on.  I think he just does it to get a kick for one period of the year.  Psychologically he doesn't seem like an addict at all.  But in his column he should acknowledge that not everyone is as responsible with gear as he is.

In the HBO documentary he said he goes to Mexico to get his gear.  lol, yeah right.  I know he was just being smart to say that on TV though.
Doesn't he actually LIVE in Mexico?

And as far as being resposible with gear and stuff I'm pretty sure he was addicted to Nubain at one point. Not positive but pretty close, that it was him that wrote an article on how it is detoxing from it. Also this guys advice on diuretics almost put Dillet in the grave. Haven't read his stuff in a long time but i wouldn't be surprised if he was on some test year round. After cycling for decades most are.

No, no... He is the closest thing to the sport, as the National Enquirer is to REAL news and journalism.

I don't always agree with some of the things he says, but to say that he "hides" behind anyone is ludicrous.  He's one of VERY few people in this business who has the balls to say bold things under his own name.  He also shows up in public as opposed to merely "hiding" behind an online alias.

I don't know what he said about McGough, but I admire the fact that he's willing to be outspoken.  We have MORE than enough "yes-men" in this business.

Because he is an idiot that attempts to sell over sensationalized journalism as his own experiences.  Just the picture of his sad bad boy pose in his column with the skull cap and constipated look on his face is enough to tip anyone off that the guy is nothing more than a wannabe.
