Title: Is this a bad technique for Bench
Post by: HUGEPECS on September 11, 2006, 10:14:27 AM
The Russians have the best powerlifting coaching and technique in the world, but I'm not sure this kind of form will be applicable to everybody. there's too much curving of the back in this picture. Bigger guys wont be able to curve that high

he pretty much turned a flat benching exercise into a decline press...

which sounds pretty damned smart to me considering  :-\

He could arch higher with platform shoes.

looks like a fucking circus act

but...like someone mentioned, its bascially a decline press...and its alot easier to press the weight without putting your front delts into the picture

as long as your head and ass are on the bench...and your feet are planted on the floor...its legal

He's a POWERlifter, therefore his goal is to lift the most amount of weight possible.

Not hypertrophy, because he wants to lift the most amount of weight possible, he needs to shorten the range of motion, take the pecs out of the movement, and allow some more powerful movers i.e shoulders and back to do more of the movement than they normally would.

Thats why the arched back is used. Getting the weight up is the main goal here, not building muscle.

It's a woman in that pic, theres maybe 'only' 130kg on the bar which is doable for female powerlifters above a certain weight class. Small feet, long calves, no hair on legs, underdeveloped vastus medialis, small girly forearms and fatty upper arms, short torso, and most tellingly a lack of male genitals. Look at her size compared with people in the background.

I think the belt is backward because the thick part of the belt would interfere with her extreme arching.

On benching, I once tried something that Bob C. recommended in a FLEX feature.  It fucked my back up but good for months.   :P

I'm guessing it's one of the female Japs.

Female Japs are making a mockery out of benchpressing, and IPF will introduce a couple of rules to deal with the most extreme bridges.

The most effective change being that you will probably have to lift off the weight yourself.

These small Japs cannot keep their extreme bridge if they have to lift off the weight themselves.

In addition, there will be a softer ply in the shirts again.

Probably can control the weight better by moving it up along his chest plus cut motion.  Like a free Smith Rack.  Still most be a b#tch on the lumbar region after time.

It's a bullshit lift. I always keep my back and ass flat against the bench.

Are you sure there isn't some BF between you and the Bench.  I bet you could get lower if you followed Flex's 93 O prep.  He was pretty lean before that one according to Billy Smith, or at least what Jim Quinn reported that he said during a telecast of a big contest that year.

ALL DRUGS

no some things aren't drugs, like Jim quinn or calipers.  Jim quinn is a person, and caliperrs are a BF measuring device.
