Today has been 5 years since the 9/11 Tragedy. Thoughts go out to everyone who was affected by it. Everyone will always remember exactly what they were doing that day when they got the news. My father was actually just leaving for Germany, never got in the air though. take care guys.

Was downtown Manhattan for it, was evacuated, scary day. Today is the same exact weather it was then. My friend who was working at a downtown gym closed the gym after the planes hit. Then he got fired when the owner found out and that people complained. Stupid muscleheads. Only bodybuilders would be mad that the gym was closed that day.
Hey anyone see the movie last night on ABC? their making Clinton look pretty bad. Good movie though otherwise.

I remember my good friend Jeff called me right after the firstplane hit the tower. He was working on the roof of a building directly across the water from the towers. We had just hung up before the second plane hit the towers. Unreal.

I am not so much sad today as angry. Five years later, the left in this country is still at its hate America first ways and many of our own citizens are no different in their mentality than on September 10, 2001. They actually hate GWB more than the people who swears on our death and actually teaches their children that the highest order in life is to die for Allah as a suicide bomber.

Plus no ones cell phone worked till later that afternoon, alot of people were crying. damn shame, yesterday morning i looked at groundzero from century21 and realized that its a hole still.

I live in Yonkers and can see the skyline from where I am and still can't get over the huge void in the air.
I just wish as a country we did not have so many enemies within who would rather die by the dull knife to their neck like Nick Berg did that actually fight back. No jackass, it was fine because it saved at least that amount of our soldiers and many more Japanese since they were literally willing to fight down to the last man and were willing to sacrifice everyone in a land war.

Thats a bold thing to say. I can understand that. What I don't understand is that Both towers fell. I can see maybe 1, the one that was hit a little lower. but both?? as if they imploded prefessionaly. there is way too many fishy things that day.

Pics clearly show that for 30 minutes after the crash, there was a 16 foot diameter hole.

I personally thought it was about time for the American public to wake up to the reality of day-to-day existance and for once to truly understand the pain of many people around the world from Britain to Palestine, South America, Israel etc. What a tragic, and unfortunate way to learn it. NO, it was similar but not the same. It was appreciably warmer, summery with some humidity in the mid-80s rather than a coolish fall day this year, which would've made a big difference to firemen wearing heavy gear tromping up those stairs, to rescuers and to the many from the financial district tromping home over the bridges.
Huge psychological impact; i've never seen NY that quiet for that long. However it's true that in terms of sheer numbers this is nothing; we've been lucky and don't realize it.
What a waste that they didn't get Bin Laden at Tora Bora when they had him; the Iraq situation would probably have been avoided.

The problem is that we don't have the context then. First of all, the US would definitely have been a primary part of an invasion-the Russians only joined the war against Japan for strategic reasons, to secure those islands they've had until very recently, knowing that they'd hardly have to fight to get them.
Not such an easy decision-lose an estimate 100,000 US soldier fatalities, or bomb them. The ONLY thing that is inarguable is that they could've waited longer after the first bomb to try to get them to surrender, and that they could've done a demonstration offshore to show them what would happen. But again, that kind of demo didn't fit with the context of those times IMO. The fact that the even after the first bomb they didn't surrender suggests that they invasion would be costly, making the decision much harder, not a clear-cut advantage either way.
