I prefer the 90s when there was Dorian, Levrone, Wheeler, Ray, Cormier, Nassar, Fux and those types. Alot of the people now could not imagine placing in the top ten in those contest. Why is that ?
-
I would have to agree with the 90's....Bodybuilding was much more conditioned then....Hopefully it is heading back that way....
-
i like the golden age (70's) only because their bodies seem to be much more attainable to the serious but not pro bodybuilder. Not dry to the bone. Just big and cut. Now they are HUGE and SHREEDED. Also it looked like they got along better back then. Throw in the huge supplement endorsements and the sport has become extremely cut-throat.

During the 90's any of 8 people could have one the O. There could be an argument made for all of them during the 90's. Ray, Wheeler, Lavrone, Comier, Quiet storm, nassir, big pual and more...Now it just dont seem that deep no more. 1-4 ok....but there is a big drop off when you go beyond 4th place in todays shows.
-
60's 70's...just overall healthier
-
yeah, and thats why they are still kicking around today.
-
Haney's era. Seemed like every dude competing looked better then all but 5 of the best guys today
-
I always liked the bbdr's of the eighties. They were big but they did not sacrafice their shape. Lee Haney, Jim Quinn, Mike Quinn, Mike Christian all looked great.

I heard there is a site that is devoted to 'ironage' physiques ? Is it any worth going to? I browsed around for a little but alot of the stories on there I could not relate to.

I miss the FBB's, kay baxter, Laura Coombs, Cammie Lusko. that was cool

I not against anyone pursuing thier ambitions but personally I do not find Female BB attractive at all, is that the common sentiment here at getbig?

I'm pretty sure in the era she speaks of, they still looked like females.

Right now. Mr Olympia in a few weeks.

1990s ........................ .by far

I wish I can go back just a few years when ephedra was available in every gas station and corner grocery store...now I have to make my calls, leave text messages and pay triple what I used to pay to get it. Also...1-test products were fun to!
-
Blockhead,
SO true! If some girls playing soccer did not ingest six hydroxycuts before a big game, none of this would have never happen.
-
I get what you are saying if you are speaking for the depth of of quality athletes. The 1990's cant be touched. But in looking at the factors that contributed to bodybuilding as a sport. It had to be the 1970's. I look at it like this. The standard for modern bodybuilding was set in the 1970's. The athletes during the 60's and 70's were better for the sport to me also. Thats why they were seen outside the arena of bodybuilding back then (arnold, big lou, blond bomber etc). Also...check it out...do you think another pumbing iron can be made now...I just think the sport was more pure then.

Damn FDA forcing us to break the law to use up more and more tax dollars just to go after those of us trying to better ourselves.... :(
-
ephedra is still available at the convience stores here in Mass

The reason why you saw more of a diverse audience supporting bodybuilding back in the 60's, 70's and early 80's is because the bodies were very muscular but not overly muscled like today. People could relate to them easier cause their look was actually obtainable. Nowadays the public knows that the bodies of the BB's today are not obtainable without huge amounts of drugs and the general public is allot smarter than BB's and would not jeopardize their lives to get allot muscle. Plus the bodies of today are just stupid looking compared to back in the 70's and 80's. The bodies back then looked healthy, the bodies of today do not look healthy and are actually not healthy.
-
Yeah. I wish Zanes physique was in. If it were i think it could serve as motivation for many people to get involved in bb'ing. But people like myself know i wont be able to bake it big without puttingmy health at risk.
-
Cammie Lusko. that was cool
She was my first ex-wifes girlfriend :-\!!
-
Bob Gibson's ERA of 1.12 in 1968. The year of the pitcher. Oh, you mean bodybuilding era? ;)
-
late 70s, early 80s. lots of steroids, no GH, insulin or diuretics. Mentzer, Paris, Birdsong

In Chicago.
Peep this yo...I can buy ephedrine hcl with the whole guifenesin thing at this local gas station run by Arabs, right?
It's like $3.99 for a packet of 12 gel caps. You can only buy 1 every 24 hours and you got to sing this sheet. The Arab guys are cool though let me me buy 3 or 4 packets at a time and they letme put in fake names/addresses...so anyway the moral of my story is...
I know all these people who just dont know ephedrine can be bought under that label so they ask me if I can get them ephedrine so I always say..."yea, man letme make some calls...that siht is BANNED all over Illinois and Indiana...I have a hook up who gets it imported to him from Utah(just made it up...Utah sounds cooler than Iowa) let me see how many he has...I grab my cell and pretend to call "my hookup" and have a fake conversation with "him" in front of whoever asks me to get them ephedrine so I'm all like..."yea,...you have any left...oh, good...yea I need...48 tabs...yea, 4 packets...thats cool...okay I'll drop by your place tomorrow night...okay thanks...yea, thanks I appreciate it...cool...alright I'll call you tomorrow..." Then I tell them..."Yea you're in luck...he has some left he's waiting for another shipment but he isnt sure how long it will be...he charges $15 a packet.."
So they give me $60 I turn around and spend $16 and some change at the gas station by my work and deliver the goods the next night...cha-ching!!!!

Early 70's - Sergio and Arnold at their best. Draper still looking big, Nubret, Casey Viator coming up... some crazy years.

Bob Gibson's ERA of 1.12 in 1968. The year of the pitcher. Oh, you mean bodybuilding era? ;)
From Ghetto to Glory. I met Bob Gibson back in high school. He went to the same high school as my friends mom. He was in town for something and went to go see her. She called me and I hauled ass over to meet him. He a giant to me. I wrote 3 book reports on his book
-
Early 90's rule. Lee Haney, Rich Gaspari, Lee Labrada ect.. QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY. :)
-
The 90's had balance and conditioning...and many of the pro's of that era competed at several shows a year...The top ten of the 90's Olympias were a tough crowd to beat....
-
I met Bob Gibson back in high school.
I met him when I was 8 or so. My childhood best friend was cousins or perhaps nephew with someone on the Cardinals at that time, Julian Javier I seem to remember.

For me it would be the 70's. You didn't have to deal with half the bullshit that's going on today.
-
80's and 90's the people were so much more genuine and the whole scene was bigger than life . admit it we all had baggy pants and string t's and hair!
-
The 90's followed closely by the 70's.
-
Arnold ..........If he was competing today i woudn't miss any of his contest!!!

haha! yes i love looking at the old mags. Purple striped skin tight training suits...they are almost like wet suits! hahaha and the jerry curls to go too!
-
So when did bodybuilding get to what is is now? Because in the 90's atleast everyone respected everyone. And many of the top pros trained together even if they were competing for the same show. big paul and priest were roomates. Now its like cut throat. WHERES THE LOVE.

Now that is the real Louie Ferrigno. Not the imposter of 1992 thru 1994.

He was one of the best ever.

I would have loved too. And I was used to catching. I was a catcher since I was 8 years old. Its the only position I played. And I caught some very fast pitchers. Actually the fastest (consistant) was my friend Greg Staffon. Our high school had probably more pro ballplayers come out of it than any in the country. As a junior Greg was timed at 96mph. He was the first pitcher signed in the June draft. By Montreal. We played winterball together in St. Petersburg. Dennis Lamp also threw hard. Bert Blyleven threw 90 pretty consistant too. Bob Gibson was way before my time but it would have been nice He was a big dude too.
This pic is from high school.

My Favorite Era In Bodybuilding:
The 90's is my favorite because of how competitive the Mr. Olympia contest was. Dorian did the right thing by retiring after winning the olympia in 1997. A lot of other pros pushed Dorian to the limit while he was on top. The only people that could have arguably upset Dorian were Nasser, Flex, Levrone, or Ronnie.
I also like the women's side because of how the Ms. O for a few years became a contest between two great champions Lenda Murray and Kim Chizevsky.
After that whole period of infamous time in the 90's, I think the overall quality of bodybuilding mags has declined in my opinion. I really enjoyed reading that "Ask Zulak" uncensored column every month in one particular hardcore mag.

well If I had to pick an era it would definately be the early 90s but that's really just because of one stand out year. It wasn't 90, 91, 92, 0r 94.

By 70's early 80's do you mean degrees fareinheit because I think that was around the temperature in Venice California back in 93 when Billy Smith measured Flex Wheelers BF at Gold's Venice. Sources say the reading came out prettty low.
