Post by: divcom on September 15, 2006, 07:28:25 AM

Major college football has or had no need for a 5'6 player.....

way to small.......

Dummy.  So...Ronnie wasnt a good ftball player for Eddie Robinson when he was putting guys on their a$$e$ in the Bayou Classic and so forth?  Shawn didnt set a couple of HS records in Orange County.  Phil didnt get a full ride at Denver Univ.

I'm assuming you were an Academic All-American for Michigan or USC.  Or...did you do Ivy League like everyone  on Yahoo!? ::)

They were good college athletes who became bbers.  I could give a s##t what you call the stage part of bbing... but the weight training portion is a carry over from their ball days.

I played with Tyrone Hughes who was about 5'7".  He played for Nebraska and a couple of NFL teams...so there is room.

Back yourself up a little, I never said they WERE NOT athletes, they're just not athletes NOW, anotherwords, NOW they couldn't get through a half day of a two day combine much less run any agility drills. And I've said it before, they couldn't get through a high school combine!

And it funny that jmt1 mentioned Maurice Drew, I was watching his combine today and the kid is just sick, one of the very few of his size that made it!

Good for you, Shawn. You should be proud of your high school football accomplishments.
I don't blame you for choosing bodybuilding. There's certainly no guarantee of making the NFL after high school, and it turned out to be more lucrative for you than most. And getting hit on the football field ain't fun. It takes a special breed to enjoy that shit.  :P

I certainly would have liked to choose Football over BBing at the time if it were purely about making money.
Rather, I chose to follow my "Passion" which you cannot place a Dollar amount on and thankfully, I was able to make a living off my passion. Hence, having enjoyed the ONLY job I've ever had since I was 21. Taking me around he world a few times, BBing has afforded me the privelage of enjoying different Cultures, People, Places and things Football did not.
I also like the idea of the Independence BBing provided me over Football and it's "Team" concept.
That being said, I felt my size would be a disadvantage because I was not a World Class Speedster. :-\
I think I made the right choice, as I am still enjoying the "Fruits of my Labor" and have no lingering injuries or regrets having competed with the Sports Elite and Best Built Men in the world!
BBing has been berry berry good to me ;D

Not that I don't know anything about football.....

But if you had most career yards & carries for your school....how come you didn't get most career touchdowns for carries?

Also....it seems like there wasn't much of a passing game for your school.

Sean is a "girlie-man" look at him.  He'd last 1 play major college ball let alone the pros.  Thise guys who are short are very special people.  They know football is a team sport.  Sean admitted above he is not a team sport player.  Now in New York at NOC when he used to go he was a team player of a different sort.

Cue: one liner from Sean

every high school has a career leader in yards, carries etc

only about 2-3% of high school football players are good enough for D1 football and only about 2-3% of D1 players are good enough for the NFL

Jim Brown was 6'2".  ;)

I know who you are talking about, of course. Sanders was one heck of a back, and one of the greats. I am a huge fan of Warrick Dunn, who's still doing his thing in the NFL and is 5'7".

I will tell you.

He is a girlie man (Arnold's saying) because he is fragile looking.  WOuldn't last a couple good hits in major college ball or the pros.  The guys you are listing who have made it in the pros are "special".  They are tough, have heart, and are team players.  Sean is a few posts prior admitted he is not a team player.  Everything he does is for himself to this day.  His antics in New York at past NOC shows (after the actual show) is legendary.  DO you honestly think he made all his money from just bodybuilding.  Come on.

Onlyme is jealous of Shawn.

And why would I be jealous.  I acheived what I wanted to do competing in my sport.  I did many many thing I only dreamed about and others too.  I wouldn't change for his life at any cost.  I have integrity and honor and care about others for real, not just to get me some publicity.  His two golf events pale in comparison to what I have done.  His BB acomplishments are okay but nothing that I ever thought about.  His antics of the stage are what he is really made of.  And no way would I want that.  No not jealous, sorry

That spider has effected your mind.

Just because someone chose a different path doesn't mean they wouldn't be good at something else.

There's a lot of people (like myself) that have a talent or "gift" but never use it.  I chose a different path  in my life because I felt I would have enjoyed & appreciated the one I took instead.  The other one would have been for the wrong reasons.

I set a couple of high school records myself:

Longest Chess Match: 98 hours
Fastest Checkmate: 2 moves
Most Checkmates in one match: 1 (tied with 1422 others)
Most Useless Checks in one match: 36
I had my pocket protector retired by SVHS in 1988.

People ask me why I chose to be a Keyboard Warrior rather than a Professional Chess Player and I tell them:

There were no colleges offering chess scholarships when I graduated back in 1987. I ended up getting a full ROTC scholarship instead to a major university. I got to train on Parris Island with some of the top keyboard technology available anywhere. I did two tours of Kuwait on the message boards at Compuserve in 1991-92. I even wrote a screenplay about Maoris who used the internet to defend their freedoms called "Once Were Keyboard Warriors".

Sorry Sean for stepping in your spotlight. :-\  You need it I know :'(  Please go ahead your thread.  It really sounds like you could have been a huge star in football.  I bet Eric Dickerson, Bo Jackson and others sure were thankful you took up bodybuilding.  Luckily you didn't place that high in many shows so you really didn't do to much to the competitors in BB.  Go ahead take over, you are my hero too. ::)

Fool!  This thread isnt about heros.  That being said... this thread could have been about Ronnie but he dont give a s##t to post here...so Shawn is the logical choice.

I dont care if your show tanked or the Colorado show after its' 3 yr run.

Once again...some bbers can do more from an athletic standpoint than just stick a needle in their a$$e$.  Shawn is just an EXAMPLE.  You got it bad for the man.

Peace.

She always get Blockhead and myself going.  Maybe she might work for you.  :D

If I were going to have a hero in bbing it would be Pintus.  She makes Shawn look like a dog.  ;D
