Arnold had Sergio and Louis. Haney had Gaspari and Labrada. Ronnie battled Flex, Levrone, Shawn Ray, Cormier and Nasser for four straight years! And then in 2001, Cutler came out of nowhere and but for the exception of 2002, he’s been on Ronnie’s back ever since. Along with more of Levrone and Cormier; and later, Gunter, Gustavo and Dex. He’s even competed in the Arnold and won! He’s the only Mr. O to do that.
He also has a champion’s heart. Ronnie won the Arnold in 2001. That same year he won the Olympia. He returned in 2002 and won the Olympia again. A week later he won the Grand Prix in Hungary. Two weeks later he lost the GNC to Gunter. He peaked five times in two consecutive seasons! Never again.
He returned to the Olympia in ’03 and won decisively, but not by enough to ensure his supremacy. In 2004, the world changed forever. The world saw the biggest mass of muscle ever amassed onstage – a 290 pound beast! He set the bar so high in ’04 that even he’s having trouble reaching it.
That’s what makes Ronnie the ultimate champion. That, and his iron will, his big heart and his belief in his faith. He’s very dedicated and his work ethic is extraordinary! He trains like each workout’s his last. I admire his intense drive to be the best, his confidence and his love for the sport. That’s why eight or nine, it doesn’t matter.
Ronnie Coleman could be the greatest Mr. Olympia of all time.
-
Don't forget that he's 100% natural and doing gods work as Mr Olympia too Steve :)
-
Nice cover, Steve. I concur about Ronnie being arguably the greatest and most dominant Mr.Olympia of all time. There is something to be said about the correlating link between the lifestyle, belief in something greater than them and residence of these men.
I wish Ronnie knew how to promote being a Mr. Olympia champion better and knew how to promote the 'sport' in a more promising way. His main opposition in acheiving that is himself and his notorious vernacular.
When he appeared on Jay Leno Show in 2001 he was asked what it takes to become a Mr. Olympia and what kind of food one has to eat he answered..."Oh you kno...gott lift dem wates...I eat whatever I want...pizza, cheesburgers...french fries..."
Leno even asked him again if he should eat healthier foods and Ronnie quipped back "...I guess but I eat anything...''
I love this game and I love the industry. I hope the next man to take the throne is more public friendly and can find a way to promote and give back in a better presented way.
I'll buy the issue...Ron Harris already warned me about describing Ronnie as a 'gigantic salascious mountain of greasy chocolate ebony muscle'. So since I was pre-warned...I'll let it slide.

Cool ass cover! 8) 8)

Well spoken Blockhead.

I agree with you totally. Ron isn't my fav but He is way over the top.
-
Wow, that's the best Ronnie's waist has looked in 4 years.
How did he come in so streamlined for that MD cover?
-
Photoshop like a mofo!
The greatest photoshop MD ever did was the issue about 6 months back with Dave Henry and Lee Priest together on the cover. it was awful...Dave looked like he has 24'' arms and weighed about 275lbs.
-
Sorry, TheBlockHead.
Blechman and Cara both came on the boards and made it very clear that MD has and will NEVER photoshop their covers. I ever saved the screenshots!
Therefore you must be mistaken. Big Ron is coming in with the best waistline since 2000!

Slow news day? This photoshopping cover crap is so old that someone needs to change the bedpan already. ;D
-
They've NEVER photoshopped?? not even the Gary Strydom cover?
-
Then TheBlockHead stands corrected. If Cara from MD says that to be the case then it has to be true.
Cara from MD plays alot of games though...she likes to play with peoples heads and peoples emotions.

Cara from MD,
Can you please re-affirm your stance that MD has never, and will never, photoshop their covers?
Also, can you confirm/deny that you like to play with people's heads & emotions?

Great cover!

Monster grayscaling of a year-old contest photo.

Monster grayscaling of a year-old contest photo.
Wrong! The cover photo of Ronnie was taken at the 2004 Olympia. He was a beast, weighing about 290-295lbs!
-
So let me ask you Cara from MD...you're saying Ronnie's waist in that pic above was NOT altered slightly? You're saying 5% wasn't shaved off?
7:30 tonite?
-
that cover photo is from the 2003 olympia where Ronnie competed at 287 pounds:
and as you can see from this screencap it does not look like he waist was photoshopped in the cover. When your arms are UP most people look like they have a small waist. Its when the arms are DOWN that the problems begin :)
In 2004, he was 297 but holding water:
again, notice the waist: looks okay when the arms are raised.
Cool Cover MD!

Thanks Cara.
I actually have a $50 bet going with this blockhead guy over this issue and needed you to weigh in.
So you're saying that pic wasn't photoshopped?
I'd like to take this guy's money and buy a subscription to MD. Hard to get in my area. thanks!

They said they never photoshop the bodybuilders. They said nothing about creatively photoshopping the black background to superimpose over one's lovehandles.

something to take note:
the photo on the cover appears back in the 2003 olympia coverage issue of MD as a full page shot.
it looks identical to the one on the cover...
-
This cover is exactly why I respect Steve Blechman.
After all the bullshit MD just went through with AMI and Flex, Blechman could have said, "Fuck them. I'm not putting their guy from their show on my cover."
But Steve is thinking about the bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman and bodybuilding history first and foremost. Hats off.
-
Tru...thats a valid point I suppose.
Hey GH so how's Cara from MD look, brah?

It's 9:05pm. You're late. Cara from MD waits for NO ONE.
-
Hey Cara, what can i do to convince you to post up some pics of yourself? You sound hot!

the picture is from the 2005 O, not the 2003.
-

I text'd you 3 times last night, Cara from MD and you didn't respond and I even called 2wice and TheBlockHead never makes that much effort on a broad so I said...'fcuk it!'.

Dear MD -
STOP PHOTOSHOPPING YOUR PICTURES!
This is the #1 reason why I dont buy MD.
Just as bad as using Synthol - fans want to know what's REAL muscle ("supplement"-enhanced or not), not digital or Synthol enhancement.
I know MD wont listen to just 1 fan, so oh well.
-
So, Mr. Blechman -
Are you going to ever contribute to this board and its discussions or continue to spam your magazine and/or covers from month-to-month?
Oh, yeah, that's right, you're a very busy person as Ron Harris and Cara has commented several times in the past.
Not busy enough to spam your magazine, but too busy to contribute on the very threads that YOU initiate.
Go figure, huh? ::)
Any other board and your posts would be MIA.
Que Cara in 3 .. .. 2 .. .. 1 .. ..

Was out of town and just got back in the office when I saw your post. I plan on contributing much more in the future! Ron has told me that many on getbig read MD and most are interested in who will be on upcoming covers.
-
I'm not too sure if most of us here at Getbig are THAT interested in who will be on the next issue and the next issue and the next issue. I say most of us here read MD over the other, yes, HOWEVER...we're more interested in you guys over there in NY keeping it real and admit to us that sometimes the BB's ont he covers are slightly 'enhanced'. We all know why....we know who buys the magazines and we know what sells but we here at Getbig are above/beyond that.
I always say that on Getbig...we let NOTHING slip past us. We skip no beats and leave no stone unturned. Something as tiny and trivial as decreasing Ronnie's obliques for the cover or enhancing Dave Henry's arms by 5% will get heavily debated and exposed here on Getbig. We will beat it to the ground until we get a confession and/or apology for trying to piss down our backs and explain that it is raining out.
That's why you guys love Getbig so much...amazing, huh?
I can care less who is on the cover. Your Branch Warren covers were dynamite. All of them. I'll admit. My biggest concern about your magazine are your writers/contributors describing all the negroe bodybuilders as I quote: "Gigantic and Salascious Mountains of Greasy Ebony Muscle." That raises my eyebrow more than who's on the cover.
Thank you for mixing it up with us, though...it is good to have you here.

Cool Cover MD!
Sorry but Cara was wrong! You are right, the cover photo of Ronnie was from the 2003 Olympia.

It just goes to show you Steve...we here on Getbig will never allow anything to slip past us. Something so meaningless and trivial and small like when the photo was taken wether it was in 03 or 05...we will do our homework if our bullshit detector goes off and we will debate and argue and beat this btich in the ground.
We allow nobody to make mistakes. To say that pic was from 05...to us on Getbig and to 'The Watchdogs' that is an injustice and injustices need to be exposed.
Now the penalty for that mistake...I call upon the FIRING of Cara from MD!

I will allow you this one and only mistake Cara from MD. I will make the rest of 'The Watchdogs' heel and back off of Steve with our e-mail and written petition campaign to have you 86'd.
You're safe...for now. Holla!

In 2004, the world changed forever. The world saw the biggest mass of muscle ever amassed onstage – a 290 pound beast! He set the bar so high in ’04 that even he’s having trouble reaching it.
You're seriously deluded. I could expect this crock of shit from a fanatic like Hulkster&Pumpster - but since they pefer Ronnie's 1999 version, I guess even they are able to see how horrendous Rnnie looked -, but it's shocking to see a magazine publisher, supposedly an expert, saying such a thing. Coleman looks his best at round 250 lbs. Ronnie in 2004 was the biggest travesty ever to win a Sandow. His gut looked like that of someone carrying an alien queen, he had little abdominal and serratus separations, his back, for all it's thickness and width, had almost no separations showing when he stood relaxed. And his humongous quadriceps overpowered not merely his sub-par calves, but also his entire upper body. How could that feaky collection of bodyparts, who looked like a competitor of "The World's Strongest Man", could be considered a standard-bearer is beyond me. Here is the great Ronald Coleman who stepped onstage for the 2004 Olympia! :o :o :o :o :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Cara from MD...think about it now. Fronting on TheBlockHead and trying to prove he is infallibe will cause him to grab the phone and call 631-7*1-9*96 and demand Mr.Blechmans' attention.
We wouldn't want the Lavender household back on the market, will we?

Steve heard from Ronnie Coleman, who thanked him for the cover and really liked it.
