I trained with Relson, not Reylson.  Relson is a son of Relio, and older brother to Rickson (from same mother).  Reylson is a cousin of Relson.

yeah, maybe 10 minutes, tops, burnt myself out in like a minute and a half though.  i was stronger than the guy but it didn't matter at all, you just can't train for that shit with traditional weight training... bit of a reality check

That is fighting in general just cause you can bench so much or you squat aton doesnt mean SH*T. It's more about technique and using your opponents force against them. If he dont wanna roll right then let him roll left. Let him think he is over powering you but know that he isnt rolling left by himself yor allowing him to roll left cause that's what you want him to do..Don't know if that makes sense, when my old man started rolling he was big and strong i mean he weighed 340 at the time and was rowing 6x45's on each side, but i watched him get worked all night by a guy who was 230lb. good luck have fun and dont quit. You will be able to roll for 15 minutes straight in about 2 to 3 months if you work hard then you can have your fun with a newbie, good luck let me know how you like it the more you get into it.....

Not much training at all, 2 years of boxing is it.  I'd like to get into MT or BJJ but there aren't any schools close to me and I don't have the time to be driving to class 30-45 minutes one way in addition.

You are probably going to be better off than he.  He has some preconceived notions about fighting based upon his experiences.  Most of the Kenpo he has learned is not applicable to BJJ.  He will have to relearn a totally different paradigm.  If he is smart, and humble, he will increase his game, and won't feel threatened that his original art didn't have the answers.  I was a Wing Chun instructor who had three portugese men come to our school to demonstrate their art.  Rorion, Relson, and Royce Gracie took all of us down, submitted all of us within 2 minutes.  32 people that night signed up for classes at UH to learn from Relson Gracie.  Some of the old timers were trying to come up with solutions within the Wing Chun system.  They remained stuck to their old paradigm.  Years later, I got my bell rung from a friend of mine who wrestled at OSU.  No BJJ experience, just DIV I collegiate wrestler.  It was like being put into a tire and rolled down a hill.  His controlled tie ups neutralised my shots, his clinch game allowed him to dirty box me with impunity.  I had to change to meet the demand.  Well, guess what, I started training greco roman.  So be open, humble ,and willing to learn.  You will get scratched up, get mat burn, get aching joints, but it is fun, and a neverending journey of self discovery.

Anybody train with Craig Kukuk.  I introduced him to the Gracies back in 87' or so.  I was taking it from Rorian and Rixson a little and used to train in Rorians garage one on one.  It was when they first moved to the US.  SO i was probably one of the first dozen or so to take it from them in then US.  I promoted them throughout Southern California.  Introduced them to Pat Jordan who was a free lance writer for Time Magazine (which he did an article on me), Life, Newsweek and Playboy.  He did an 11 or 12 page article on the Gracies for Playboy and then they took off big time.  Does anyone have that article.  Craig is the first Gracie Black Belt from America.  Open some schools in Philly and was the first one to have BJJ available on video tape.  Made a million at it and retired.  I have no doubt whatsoever that if Craig fought in the UFC he would have been the World Champion hands down. He had it all. hardest puncher I have ever seen and the BJJ skills to handle the ground.  Eceptionally strong as hell too.  But he had some serious back problems so had to stop.  The UFC offered him (from what I hear back in the late 90's) $300,000 to fight.  His wife said no way.

I did

We talked about this in another thread awhile back

Craig was a great teacher. When I started, Renzo had just come over from Brazil, but Craig had been teaching for about a year, and the guys who trained with him were already good. One of those guys was Matt Serra. I used think of Craig as the Enclopedia of Jiu Jitsu. In fact, he ended up writing a book of that name. Craig  once told us that Rickson would kick his ass everyday. I remember thinking "How could anybody be better than Craig?"

It's a shame that Craig and Renzo split. Renzo is a great guy and arguably the best grappling instructor in the world, but Craig was a better businessman. Had they stayed together, there probably would be more schools in Manhattan. As it stands now, I still have to take a bus and a train to get to the school which keeps me from training as much as I would like.

Yes Thin I remember.  Good stuff.  I haven't talked to Craig in years.  He was very dedicated to learning.

If any of you are ever in San Diego, they got fantastic trainers there.  I went there to see the Pittsburgh/San Diego game (boo hoo, the Steelers lost) and I trained one day with Carlos Valente, one day at the boxing club, and one day at City Boxing.  Brent Stulchik is a stud, as is Mike Fowler at City Boxing.  I just got home today, and I am EXTREMELY sore.
