i take in about 40grams of carbs 30 minutes before my workout and then another 60 when i have my meal post workout...the 60 is for each gram of protein i take in. seems to be doing wonders! that way you don't feel dull or weak during a hard workout and can give it your all...
best thing to do is learn your body's timing when it comes to eating carbs and it putting them into action...about 30 minutes before is right on the money for me...and i'm not talking simple sugars or juice...but will help get it into your system faster if you've had a rough day...i'm talking potatoes or rice...i love to eat me some sweet potatoes before each workout!

exactly right, slow digesting complex carbs before (whole wheat, green beans, brocolli), fast digesting simple carbs after (dextrose, fake crab, white bread, mashed potatoes)
