Title: Funny posing themes/costumes
Post by: Nathan Explosion on September 26, 2006, 06:33:31 PM
In the spirit of Lee's Superman costume, Toney Freeman's executioner costume, and the "Buttback Mountain" cowboys Kamali and Roberson, I thought it would be fun to see what kind of wacky shit we could come up with for costumes and/or themed posing routines... Maybe someone will get an idea?

A Batman theme would crack me up... imagine some huge guy on stage, wearing the cowl, cape, and black posing trunks with the bat logo on it.

Also - Indiana Jones.  I'm sure Kamali would be all over this, he loves hats and probably would love to bring out the whip (maybe for Frank?)

THIS IS NOT BODYBUILDING FFS ::)

these priks should not be allowed to step onstage wearing any of that bullshit...it fuggin disgusts me

can u imagine Haney or Arnold walking onstage in a fuggin silly costume....sorry but this is not bodybuilding and they should not be allowed onstage...its all the same arseholes that do it aswell :-\

the judges should decuct 10% of their overall score...and see how many send their costumes back to the fancy dress shop.....(thats if the fuggin judges can work out wot their score is and take 10% off)

"To infinity, and beyond!"

Beyond what, distension?

Well, think of it this way - no one said shit when Ronnie came out last year wearing half of the Burger King's outfit last year - talk about a cocky guy.  He had a right to be confident, but geez.  And Melvin's Phantom of the Opera routine.  Bodybuilding is entertainment for the fans.  People want to see massive, perfectly chiseled physiques, but who's to say there can't be a little fun with it, that the bodybuilders can't be creative and have a sense of humor once in a while?

The problem us true fans have with the costumes is that, for us, muscle is what it's all about... we don't need that gay shit to entertain us...

Think about yates at the 1988 british champs - no props needed that day let me tell you!

The fans that need that stuff to enjoy a show need to figure out whether they are into bodybuilding or something else entirely if you get my drift...

Forgive me, master, for not having the time to read hundreds of thousands of posts...

I shut up now.

That said, the Batman picture is pretty awesome.

And I did manage to get some people up in arms about costumes and themed posing.  Aren't discussions fun?  :)

Also, is it impossible to be a true fan and also appreciate a bit of the entertainment value that these guys can bring with a little creativity?  Who is anyone to say that someone is not a "true fan" just because they don't reject what might be look at as a gimmicky aspect of the sport, the art?  I know that bodybuilding is about discipline, training, and dedication - the guys at the top are not there because of gimmicks.   Some guys don't do it - like you said, Yates was a sight to behold with no extras.  But I think it's totally uncalled for and unfair to imply that bodybuilding fans who can appreciate a good themed routine once in while are gay.

And what of the state of bodybuilding today?  As evidenced by the lack of ppv for this year's Olympia, things are not going so hot for a fan base that was already small to begin with.  Maybe a few colorful characters with interesting routines are the shot in the arm the sport needs to draw in fans who might not look twice otherwise.

Let's be openminded...
