Title: rest between sets
Post by: theoperator on November 08, 2006, 04:57:38 PM
how long do u rest for between sets? i read in a magazine u should rest approx 90 seconds if your training for mass and about 120 seconds best for strength but i wasnt sure if i should listen to it because i didnt know if that only applied to people using steroids.

im mostly training for strength but i want mass too. outt of a 100 points, about 65 of me is going for strenght and 35 for mass. i dont know if that makes any sense.

Heres an important rule: spend no more than one hour in the gym total. 45 mins is preferable TO ME. This means less rest. Remember that BBing is all about muscle breakdown and rebuilding. The more you "tear down" the muscle (fibers) the more opportunity you have to rebuild it. Do not spend all your time sitting around between sets, fill your muscles with blood, make them burn. I say no more than 60 secs. You may find something works better for you. If so then go with it.

Hope this helps!

I wait till my pulse settles before i do another set, I like to go by my hart rate rather than a set in stone #.

I rest 5-15 minutes between sets, depending on how heavy the sets are.

15 minutes are only for the negative squats and really heavy deadlifts and squats.

I'm not in the gym to train endurance, so I rather do very few sets, rests plenty and go fairly heavy.

I rest until I feel ready to hit it hard again.....Im guessing it averages around 2 minutes depending how heavy I go.

The 45 minute thing is flawed

You're much better off resting longer and being able to lift heavier weights

I rest 3 mins between sets

I don't rest at all.  One exercise is a pre-exhaust for the next.  My whole workout is over in less than 12 min. Just me though.
