Post by: az on December 16, 2006, 08:27:15 PM
I wear gloves (good gloves too) and still have callouses. Any suggestions or is this part of the journery...

It's different for girls I suppose, but I don't wear them.

The callouses you probably can't avoid because of the pressure.

I think they are part of the journey...like bumps and potholes in a heavily used road.  They are telltale signs of your struggles in the gym and your dedication to move past those struggles.  I've never worn gloves because powerlifting didn't allow it in the meets, and I didn't like doing something in practice that I wouldn't be allowed to do in the meet.

I apply lotion to my hands constantly while at work and at home, so that helps to keep them a little smoother.

Thanks Jodi, I like the way that sounds!

I used to wear gloves all the time and as soon as I forgot them or just didnt wear them I would get callouses.  I stopped wearing them and now I dont get them.  Sometimes the rubbing of the gloves can make it worse.  Also I think my hands have toughened up ---- dont get me wrong they arent rough as hell!!

it's not to harden the hands' skin, it's to harden the bones within that hand.  they even have ointments to use after sessions to keep the skin from getting deformed callouses
