A friend of mine sent me a copy of the York, Pa Sunday News (12-24-06) with a fairly good article about that book. Two full pages of very interesting stuff and how it all started with DR. Ziegler, Bob Hoffman,  Brannum, March, Grimek, etc all at Hoffman's training site. Those York Olympic lifters were tops for quite a while back in the day. They said there strength was from using the power rack, with isometric training. And of course, a good dose of Bob Hoffman's protein (mostly soy) tabs and powder. Not having read the full book, but judging from the article, it might be an interesting read. Lots of old picture I've also heard.

its a good read. besides the history of york barbell, you  get some interesting stories about the guys who worked there. There is some great stuff about bill starr,  the start of the steroid craze, and much much more.  And yes, John Grimek did try testosterone and dianabol in  the 50's.

One of those ad's showed the old kettle bell handles that slide on a DB sleeve. Use those a bit, at a garage (actually a backyard) gym of a older BB'er. He let us kids fool around with these handles. Just unscrew a collar, slide he original DB sleeve off, slide on the kettle bell handle, rescrew on the collar..and you ready to go.

Never quite got the point of using these (regular kettle bells either). Though the leverage was better, with the DB resting on the wrist when doing lateral and front raises, as the kettle bell handle was gripped.

D-ball, back than, was like a baby aspirin today, I've been told by many old timers.
