You have the whole rest of your life (no indication of early death).

Living in the past is wrong and will cause heartaches.  Because what you are holding dear is over, and you can never have that in your life again.  Be it your dogs, car, ex, if it is the past it is gone and living for something that you can never have again is simply gut wrenching.

I read a quote somewhere and I can't remember who's it was but it's what I base my life on today.

"Live everyday like it will be your last, but plan for tomorrow"

adding "No regrets" never hurts  ;D

Always look to the future. The past is just that....the past. What happend yesterday means nothing. Tomorrow is a whole new day.

Future!!!

Its fun to think of what will be....and what actually happens.  I love the idea of not knowing, but building your own path.  The idea of your own future is limitless!!

(tasha by the way!! 8))

It is both.... you cannot have one without the other....... You look to the future and learn from your past... that is how values, family and etc are taught and then you have your own experiences and adjust accordingly.

Yes, but "learning" from the past is not the same as "holding onto" the past.

Always look to the future, ...but don't forget to live in the moment today.
You cannot re-live the past, the future is not yet here, but make the most out of today.
Today is a gift, ...that's why we call it the present.  :D

You can hold onto good memories, don't be trapped by them.
Painfull to watch some people stuck in what is gone.

Cause yesterday don't mean shit
What's over is over and nothing between
Yesterday don't mean shit
Because tomorrow's the day you have to face
There's no rewinding time
Yesterday don't mean shit
Yesterday don't mean shit

Remember Yesterday
and think about tomorrow
But you have to live today
Oh, lonely yesterday
don't leave me with the sorrow
Cause I have to live today

Learn from the past, don't live in it.

I love my fantastic memories, they are my brilliant past
and they improve as I get older !

I embellish my good memories, the stories get better everytime I tell them.  & I tend to forget the crap past.

I'm more interested in the future, which is where I'm going to be living.

But >>>Like Judi,
I'm really really stuck in the here and now, the moment !

I normally post these in "The Devotionals Thread" on the Religion board, but I think it's appropriate here too.  :)

On the Sequence of Things

"Since every event is the consequence of a prior event, it is impossible to interpret the present correctly without looking at the past. But it is important to understand that, since the present is the consequence of the past, you can work on this present to create a more beautiful and luminous future. If you truly want to understand someone’s present existence, you must think of it not only as the consequence of the distant past but as the point of departure for a new existence.

If you study someone’s life without taking into account its connection to his past and future lives, you cannot assess it accurately. Sometimes when we observe a person’s life, we cannot help but think: ‘What a waste!’ And such a life seems even more hopeless if we aren’t aware that it is merely a link in a long chain and that the next links can be improved.
