Sorry Uncle Geo  :-\ Rule #3 states that pet must be member of Getbig family.  The crazy Stella does not qualify  :-[  I'd be voting for her myself  :-*  She's just adorable.  But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE continue posting pics of your little furry neice  ;D

Yes...unfortunately it's been decided to be only for the "immediate" Getbig family.

The rules posted are meant as guidelines right now....unless we have a strong debate with the majority feeling a change or an addendum to the rules including all the Mods.

For obvious reasons, it wouldn't be fair to the Getbig family if outside participants were allowed.

On a side note...Stella is a great looking pup.  I'm also glad to see you posting here Geo.  You bring a special 'flavor' that can be duplicated.

Now on the other hand....if you still have a cat....we do have Getbig's Cat of The Month.

Thanks a lot. Chaos is my wife and I's baby boy. He just recently had a dog house built. It took me like 10 hours or so. The thing has carpet and hard wood floors. He is spoiled. I have him to wear I say show me your belly and he rools over onto his back and waits until I kiss his chest.. He's a good lil boy...

Kenny I still cant believe how early you cast your vote. You almost acted like a kid in a strip club. Buying the first DANCE dog that was offered to you... Ha-ha Scout is a very nice looking pup. Princess how old is he.

I like Chaos but i have to nominate my Reese!

Chaos is a cutie, esp. in the picture of him sitting in the car seat  ;D

How did Reese get his name?  That was one of the names I was considering for Scout ~ Reese or Reeses because he looked like a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup  ;D

So far we have:

Contestants                                                Votes

Please let me clarify.  I have not cast my vote yet.  I only put in my nomination.  ;)

Where are all the nominations?  Can a nominator nominate more than one nominee?

Scout is a very nice looking pup. Princess how old is he.

He is ~~almost 1 year (I'll have to assign an official birth date to him for celebration purposes).  Humane society said somewhere around August 11th.

I got him from a local shelter, but he was a "relo" from an over crowded shelter in another state (TN).  There were no parental records on him so we don't know for sure his mix.  Anyone care to guess  :-\  He weighs exactly 39.5 pounds.  I think he must have some "coonhound" in him because he's somewhat nocternal.   8) He's a lazy slug all day, unless he's at doggie daycare, but when the sun goes down, he does laps around the yard.

That's crazy Scout's birhtday is 2 days early then mine if your calculations serve correct. That is awesome that you took scout from a shelter. YOu found a good looking dog. I got Chaos because I was dying for a dog. THe ones that we had stayed in Las Vegas. They were my wives sister and we were just caring for them for a while. So I told the wife the dog would be for her... But really it was all part of my plan, he's a true daddy's boy. He lays above my head every night with his beely inches just above my head. I think it could cause a problem when he gets older. It was the only way he would quit crying in the middle of the night when we got him. I would lay him above my head and he would sleep through the whole night. I told you he was spoiled.

Sorry Princess,  no coonhound in that guy that I can see. My uncle has owned Walkers, blues, and 1 mangy Red bone. My dog is kinda active at night too. I guess hes doesnt get enough stimulation during the day?

Yep, it's Reese like a Peanut Butter cup, we were having difficulty deciding on a name and one of my wife's co-workers said her dog's name was Snickers so we immediately settled on Reese since i'm such a peanut butter fan ;D

Chaos certainly isn't camera shy  ;D

Congratulations!

He actually loves the camera and attempts to pose sometimes I think. Wait till I post tomorrow's pictures. He wanted the wife to kiss his chest so he rolled over and I grabbed the camera. Well by that point he didnt even care about the wife he just was starring at the camera then he wanted his kisses It's pretty funny.

Cute pitbull.  Now hopefully you will raise him right and he won't attack a yorkie in 2 years.

That should be the least of your worries. My boy has great tempermant. I have raised pits for going on 6 or 7 years now. My pits have never shown aggresion to anyone or anything for that matter. You might need to hand the yorkie a blow dryer or towel from all the kisses it gets. Complete babies, I don't need my pitbull to ever protect anything, just to look pretty. That's why people should own guns not dogs.. Then guns can catch a bad rep and not a breed of animal..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

His name is Luca Pachuka. We left his name the same as the other owner.. He is only 3 months old as of yesterday. Chaos was a little jealous and very timid of him. For a minute I thought Chucka was going to be the dominant one but now it seems neither one cares. They run around and bite each other all day. They are funny to watch.

trust me he gets a ton of attention. It's funny you can't love on one without the other jumping right onto your face...  ;D They play a little hard and they are both very selfish about their treats.. Chucka has started taking Chaos's toys. It's funny though because Chaos acts like an old dog and just says screw it.. He is really funny. I just know that I am gonna have to big monsters to take care of.

For some reason, I am thinking that maybe that's not the REAL chaos.
From the pics I have seen in this thread, the real chaos strikes me as a pretty laid back pup, not the jealous type at all, and definitely not the vengeful type!  This "chaos" imposter is just preying on our sensitive side, trying to steal the ladies' attention away from the pup of the month.   ;D

Be sure to tell your wife how much I appreciate the pups' pics and especially their support!  Support from pups like chaos and chucka is what really keeps me going when things get rough!   ;D

OH, and check out my glute/lower body training thread on the Women's Training/Female Bodybuilding Board:
http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=156308.0

That thread sums up most of my leg and lower body work and has some good info in it.  There are several training threads on that board, so be sure to have your wife check them out, and feel free to post any training info and/or questions (I know, shameless plug for the FBB board ;D).

OH YEAH, Happy Birthday too!!  I got so wrapped up in your cute pups that I forgot to wish you a happy birthday!   :)

Thanks alot Rip. Apprecitate the birthday wishes from you and Flower. Yall are some of my favorite on this site.. KENNY TO. Yeah Rip that was a pretty shameful plug.. haha it's ok. I will let the wife check that out. She doesnt post on here thank god, cause if she did I woudn't get a chance.

Rip anytime you need a pick me up let me know, I will send you a picture. I will hopefully have these two banging out pups in about 8 months. So if anyone wants one let me know ;D ;D (That's my shameless plug for my pups)

The wife is having a hard time sleeping with both of these beasts on the bed. It was okay with one but with two it seems there isnt any room to move. I just keep thinking how bad it is going to be when they both are full grown. We have a Cal. King to. So I am thinking we are going to have to have a custom bed made. I can't deal with her bitching and I will not make my boys sleep on the floor.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D SPOILED TO SAY THE LEAST.....

Yeah RIP the Cal. King is the biggest one you can get.. Unless I find someone who does cutom bed making. I know Shaq had his bed custom made.. I need to find someone who builds them. The funny thing is they are only pups right now. Chucka's dad was 100+ lbs. and his mom was 85 lbs. So he is gonna be big. Chaos should be pushing close to 90lbs to, his dad was close to a 100 lbs and his mom was 75lbs. So they will both be big.. Shit Chucka is close to Chaos size and their is almost 2 months differance.

Kenny you get the praise because of what you do for this board and the way you treat people. I have never seen you be rude or disrespectful and for that you get my praise.  ;)

I draw the line at the dogs in the bed, I am a big meanie.   ::)   I have a king size bed, but I still don't think we all would fit!!   My bedroom being on the second floor also makes it hard for Emmett to get up and down the stairs so I have the stairs baby gated off.

And because I am a person who doesn't like to put stuff away (ie: clothes) I don't have to worry about something getting chewed up that I left lying around.  (or them eating my snacks I keep in the bedroom  :-X)

wow, I got a couple small ones, 50lbs. I have to put one down tomorrow, she has cancer and I don't want to keep going through the surgerys, so........ :'( she's almost 9 and her sister has been with her since birth, she's going to have a tough time.
This sucks.

WAIT

Do you have to do this tomorrow?  :'( :'( :'(
Is she in pain?

I'm just throwing this out there - I could be way off base, but...
It might be easier on her sister if she "witnesses" the passing  :-\
Can your vet perform the euthanasia at your home?  Most will do that.  I am not suggesting you take the sister with you to the vet's...

yeah we talked to the vet already, over the last week she has started to wimper when she gets up and she has ripped a hole in her side that gets bigger daily. We already had one surgery done about 8 months ago. We went throught the same situation with my wifes pit several years ago, except she had three surgerys before we put her down. We vowed then we would not put another one of our dogs through that much stress, just to extend their lives a few months. It caused some guilt.

I didn't ask the vet to come to our home, not sure if he does or not. We will have a private cremation and put her pine box with the other one, along with her collar and favorite toy.

unfortunately, in the span of 7-9 days she has deteriorated rapidly, she is such a nice dog, she will be missed :'(

I promise tonight more pics... Any requests on pics.. Give me some ideas and I will send them over... Chaos sorry to hear about your loss. Chaos is quite the ladies man, but men love him to? I plan on studding him and Chuka out. There are just certain stipulations that go with both of them. I refuse to just irresponsibly breed pits, because they end up as strays and in a shelter.. One of my stipulations is that I have a say in who the pups are sold to. Plus the fee's are gonna be for serious people only. $500 for Chaos and $700 for Chuka.

  I'm gonna play devil's advocate......   8)

Are health checks going to be done on the dogs before studding?  What about conformation?  Will a judge or other reputable/knowledgeable person of the breed be looking at them?   Will the puppies they produce be sold with limited registrations or full registrations?   I think you are jumping the gun on deciding if they should be bred and if so, stud fees.  Wait til they mature, pass all health checks/tests, conformation, and temperament assessments as adults, THEN decide.   And seriously consider a limited registration clause, spay/neuter contract with the bitch's owner for all or some of the puppies, because once you breed them, YOU are responsible for all the future puppies resulting from their offspring and those offspring, and so on.

Chaos...sorry about the pup.  I know in the past when we put down our dogs...the Vet came out & the other dogs weren't in the same room....but were on the premises.  Trust me...they know when another dog passes.  They may act strange for a day or two.....but slowly will rebound back to normal routine.

Flower brings up a good point.  When you plan on breeding your dog....they should be checked out 100%.  The idea of responsible breeding is to strengthen the breed.  We have about 9-10 more months before we can get ours checked out.  I'm no expert....but so far he looks good.  We do worry about his hips because we do here some clicking.  If his hips don't check out...or anything else....we will not be studding him.

Flower and KENNY you 2 lil devils you.. Of course all of that will be part of the deal. Vet and I have talked about this. There will be a contract signed with the bitches owner. such as if she bites my dog they are responsible and things of that nature to keep my boys safe. But most importantly there will be tempermant tests done. I will not be breeding with just anyone, the bitch will have to pass tempermant and health checks before any breeding occurs. I refuse to breed with just any dumbfuck. I want to also make buyers of all pups pass a home inspection type of thing. I will not be responsible for this breed getting an even worse name then what they already have. Trust me my operation will be very professional and also well thought out. I won't be just another owner out to make a quick buck. I love my boys and want to make sure they put off healthy and well behaved pups.

C'mon flower/weed. I would never take offense to what you say... There is no way anyone could question how much I love my animals. Plus there are a few people I respect here and you fall into that list with a few others... Responsible breeding is a very important issue. I can't stand puppy mills or idiots that breed strictly for profit. One day I would love to own a kennel. Then when I get tired of breeding pups make it into a rescue. I love my family, I don't own pets... Pets are things that you feed and chain up or could care less. My boy's are exactly that my boys.

The vet said not to feed him and to wait 24 hours to give him water or food... He still wouldnt eat or drink today... Plus he has been very depressed or sad looking and doesnt move... Today he has started puking again and still has no life.. I am leaving work in 15 minutes and gonna go have barrium xrays done... I don't know what to do.. I am really stressing as Chaos is acting like he wants to die..... FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone talks to Vet please tell him I PMed him my number and would like to get an idea of what I should ask the vet up here to do...

Sounds bad....almost like he's got some sort of virus/bacteria in him.

Hopefully Vet logs in & checks his pm's.

Personally.....don't wait to long.  BTW....if for any reason you doubt your Vet....take him in to get a second opinion somewhere else.  Maybe they over looked something.

Good luck

He could have an obstruction.  Anything get chewed up recently?  See him eating any non food items? A stick?  Garbage?  Clothes?    What is he vomiting up, bile?  Does he drink water and then vomit it back shortly after?

I'm sure by now you have been to the vet, I hope he is fine.   :-\

First I have to say thank you all for your concern, I have never been a nervous wreck like this..... Now to the thank you for VET!!!!!!!!! Your the man, you gave me sound knowledge to find out what to tell the vet. Thank you so much... I owe you man.

Now on to the news with Chaos. He is throwing up water about an hour or two into having it in his system. I haven't feed him in the last 30+ hours I fell horrible.  :'( But that is what his vet ordered. Here is the thing he has had 2 IV drips in the last 24 hours. He was overloaded the last time.. The hump is still a little present. He also just about an hour ago took a pill that is supposed to relieve the vomiting for 8 hours. They are calling me in the morning to check his condition.

They have also ruled out a blockage as he had no diareaha (sp.) yesterday, but when he took the old fingers up the bum today there was diareha. So she said whatever it is Virus, or anything else it is passing through the back end. She believes it was just something he ate as she palpated his stomach and he showed no signs of discomfort. I have been worried sick and have taken the last 2 days off from work quite early. It's like I told my boss this is like my child, he can fire me and go fuck himself or he can be a man and let me take some time off to deal with my responsiblities.

Vet if you have any other advice to offer it will be gladly taken. Same with anyone else.... Thanks again Vet for the help, and everyone else for their concerns.......

Hey Sin, sorry to hear Chaos is still feeling poorly.   :(

Did they do blood work?  When Addie had a blockage they were thinking it could of been Addison's because some of he blood work pointed to Addison's. She was throwing up, no diarrhea, her stomach palpated with no discomfort, but she was depressed and not eating.  They opened her up because she wasn't a clear case for Addison's or an obstruction and it turns out it was an obstruction.  She got the "humps of water" too, looked like a funky camel!!

I hope he is feeling better today, please keep us informed.

yes, they need to do something, take him back and tell him he is now bleeding.

if they can't (or won't) do something then go to another vet or if your city has an emergency vets take him there.

I called the Emergency Vet, they are saying they would rule him as Parvo possitve without even seeing him.. They said to return to the vet I have been seeing. They said to just give him supportive treatment, ie hydration and such. They said it's just a waiting game... F*CK I am going crazy.. they said it could take up to a week but if he beats it, it won't ever be a problem again.. Now I just have to keep a close eye on Chucka...

Probably not.  Most vets won't go an herbal, non allopathic route.  If the dog is not able to keep anything down Parvaid can be given via enema:

I called the Emergency Vet, they are saying they would rule him as Parvo possitve without even seeing him.. They said to return to the vet I have been seeing. They said to just give him supportive treatment, ie hydration and such. They said it's just a waiting game... F*CK I am going crazy.. they said it could take up to a week but if he beats it, it won't ever be a problem again.. Now I just have to keep a close eye on Chucka...

Good luck with everything and give chaos a kiss for me.  Keep us posted!!

With all the information Vet said it sounded like she was doing what is needed.. Not much else they can do for Parvo other then hydrate and give him anit-biotics.. I hope they get him back on his feet. I am going to order some of that stuff that Flower recomended as well. keep Chucka from getting sick. I just found out that within a mile of our new house they have had 15 other parvo cases in the last year and a half... So looks like we bought a shitty house... Any one know of a good cleaner to take shit out of the carpet.. I guess Chaos let loose in front of the guest bathroom and we have off white carpet  :o :o :o :o :o

Thanks for the updates SinCity.

I have a Bissell Powersteamer Pro that was on sale for under 200.00.  I steam-clean our white carpets (they don't cover the whole house) about every 3-4 weeks so it makes sense to have my own machine.  You can also rent machines at the grocery store as we had to do once (after a dog-diarrhea emergency) when I had lent out my machine.  The rented one was more commercial or industrial and it seemed more powerful than my Bissell and I may consider purchasing a new one of those next time.  I'm not big into using a machine other people have used to suck up puke and diarrhea stains etc.

DOn't lend out your steam-cleaner if you get one because people break your stuff and give it back to you w/o telling you.

Some good spot cleaners:

Spot Shot
Bissell Oxy Pro (It looks like 2 cans strapped together)
Scotchgard Oxy Carpet Cleaner and Stain Protector

So the dog is back from the Vet, they gave him more Camel fluids. They also gave him some B vitamin to give him some jump in his step.. (HOPEFULLY) then he got some throw up medicine. She said that he should start eating tonight or so we hope. OTher then that no real news. Keeping fingers and paws crossed. I feel bad for Chucka too because Chaos doesnt want to play and he doesn't understand so he just lays next to Chaos and whines...  :'( :'(

wow...maybe it's me....but when I read these last two pages I was getting all amped like he was my own dog.  I am a typical quiet guy in person...but stuff like this gets me pissed with a bad temper.  It's hard to remain calm because the dog can sense frustration with you.

I'm pulling for you guys & keeping my fingers crossed.

Make sure to keep him comfortable & not stressed in anyway.

Whenever in doubt of your Doctors or Vets....getting a second mopinion is a good idea.  In some cases, you may be asked some different questions another Dr/Vet didn't ask you.  Getting informed & knowing how to explain correctly whats going on helps determine a remedy.  It sounds like our "VET" helped in that avenue.

If you live near an ER vet like someone else said, I'd go.  I live in Philly so UPenn is 20min away, if Plato ever had anything even close to this and the vet was playing fucking games he'd be at the ER without blinking an eye.

If you aren't happy with the vet, voice your concern very very loudly... or get a second opinion ASAP.

Dogs have an amazing threshold for pain/sickness, especially a pitbull.  I am sure Chaos will pull through it just fine.

I just finished reading and trying to digest the events of the day(s)  :'( :'( :'(  The whole time, I'm yelling at the computer, get an ultrasound, get an ultrasound, get to an ER stat...   I guess that wasn't the answer anyway  :-\
I'm keeping Chaos in my prayers.

As far as carpets go, my first word of advice is DO NOT USE SOAP.  Most of us are probably NOT as meticulous as Miss Stel ( ;) - or so it seems).  I have a home steam cleaner and hate it because it doesn't suck hard enough  ;D   OxyClean mixed with almost boiling water works well, but you can't use too much or you'll end up with a whiter spot than the carpet.  I use about 1/2 teaspoon to 2 cups water.  The Rug Doctor (rent at grocery store) works great.  The secret to great carpet cleaning is HOT HOT HOT water - No soap.  The purpose of carpet soap is to ATTRACT dirt.  Therefore, if you don't remove every last trace of soap, your carpet will get dirtier quicker. I've never used soap and my carpets look great, even after this incident  ;)

BTW - in case you don't have the full effect, it was a rather dark shade of army green, the consistency of mayonaise and smelt like a sewer.

Sin is going to need something that will kill the virus.  On the other info I gave him there was a link to something he could use.

I personally have put Nature's Miracle in the rug cleaner because it has the enzymes dudes in it that like biological waste products (urine, vomit, feces).  Works good and is safe!!  You can do it full strength or do it diluted.

I buy it by the gallon.   :P

Okay so an update for everyone. He is still shitting and I just found out that he did this on our living room rug.. FUCK THAT SUCKS TO FIND OUT. It's mostly water since he hasn't ate anything in the last 4 days.. He is getting more energy and is actually peeing which means that the dehydration is getting less. He is going in for more fluids today, should be the last time. Chucka has shown no signs of anything. I am guessing that his vaccines are doing there job. Chaos is still very week and has thrown up a few times from drinking to much water. Last night was the first time that he has touched his water dish and drank. Once he gets started he doesn't want to start. But I know with parvo you don't want to over hydrate. I ordered some of that parvaid. I rushed oredered it from a dealer in Nothern Idaho. As soon as I get home I plan on gettng him and chucka on it. I am hoping by saturday morning he will be eating on his own and running around a little more. He is really skinny or I would post pics. But I refuse to let him be shown at his worst... I will post pics when he is back at full health.

Sounds like he is starting to come around!! yeah!!  I think they can "relapse", but I know you're keeping an eye on him.

Chuka could be protected, but it can take 10 days or so to show up, so I would get him on the Parvaid like you said and keep an eye on him too.

Feed Chaos some of the easy digestive foods like it mentioned.

Keep us Updated!!

So here is the update, yesterday when I got home Chaos was not doing any better... I switched vets and took him to a Critical care unit. He has been there over night and will stay until tuesday. He was almost dead or pretty close to it.. We went and saw him today and he is doing much better. He was standing and wagging his tail and even gave me kisses. Something that he hasn't done for almost a week. Chucka is doing better as well. He is here at the house and on a soothing diet for his stomach. hamburger and rice. THis new Vet team is awesome and I really trust them. Forget the other one, I should've called her shit long ago. They do not have Parvo a second test was performed and it came back neggative. They didn't know for sure what was wrong with Chaos, his white blood cell count was low and he was very dehydrated. They took X-rays finally a vet who fucking does what I ask.. Nothing that is a blockage. He even did Barrium upon my request. We found out that they both had worms as Chucka puked up a worm last night... The carpets are cleaned and the rug doctor is great..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Other then that the dogs are on a healthy recovery. The vet believes it is just a virus or parasite or something and he says that they should be good by Monday. When Chaos comes home I will post some pics. But thanks again to all who were concerned and praying for us... He looked so much better today. It is totally a blessing that he is getting better....

Well okay and now I update with a turn for the worst, but we are correcting it in a sense. Chaos is doing good still, the Vet called said that he is taking fluids well and is moving around. He is however still not eating and throwing up when force feed. So I brought up the fact that no X-rays had been done and that I was willing to waste money. It seems that there is something keeping the barrium in his stomach...

Now to the worst part of the story... Chucka is now in a critical unit as well. He is only going to be kept for 12 hours, we cant afford the 1,000 dollars that they want for 24 hours... Chucka is having the same symptoms as Chaos. The ER vet says that he doubts that there is a blockage with him as well. So we are praying that Chuka will be okayuntil Tuesday morning here with us... The vet is closed until then. He is however supposed to call us, so I am going to try to get Chucka in with his tomorrow.

Sorry to bring better news with horribel news. This is starting to put a strain on my family. Let's hope that things get better. Thanks for everyones support.

Well so Chucka is stable to say the least, still minor vomiting and a lil puking. He is in his dog house in the kennel with a cone until 7 tonight when we take him back to the vet for some more fluids. Then at 8 in the morning he takes a ride in the truck to the vet hospital where Chaos is for some better help. They might need surgery if they both have blockages. I guess we will wait until in the morning and find out. There is not much more that we will know until tomorrow when they both get seen by the vet who has some brains.....

SinCity, so sorry you are all going through this.....

Found this that you may want to read:
(from infovets.com)

Introduction: Vomiting is very common in dogs and is one of the classical symptoms of digestive system problems. However, digestive tract trouble is not the only cause of vomiting. Many disorders of the endocrine system, urinary tract, nervous system, reproductive tract, and the body’s metabolism can also lead to a vomiting problem. Many dogs vomit occasionally with no adverse effects; however, uncontrollable vomiting can become an emergency situation and must be carefully assessed. Types of vomiting that may be serious are discussed below.

Causative Agents: Some of the more common causes of vomiting include ingestion of grass or other substances that are indigestible and irritating to the stomach, overeating (especially if immediately followed by heavy exercise), and motion sickness. Infectious parasites, viruses, bacteria, and some problems with the internal organs of the body may also cause a dog to vomit. Certain drugs and toxic substances will cause vomiting if ingested. These include the following:

Insecticides
Pesticides
Cleaning agents (drinking from the toilet bowl)
Antifreeze (Ethylene glycol)
Lead
Zinc
Arsenic compounds
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - such as aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol), and ibuprofen

If a dog has ingested any type of poisonous substance, contact a veterinarian immediately. Inducing the dog to vomit the poisonous substance may save its life. However, it is important to note that some poisonous substances are more harmful if the animal vomits them. Reading the product label will help a pet owner know if it is safe to force the pet to vomit.

The following can be given at home to induce vomiting in a pet:

Hydrogen peroxide - 1-3 teaspoons orally every 10 minutes, followed by gently rocking the dog back and forth or jostling the abdomen for several minutes; repeat 3-5 times if necessary.
Ipecac - 1 teaspoon orally per 10 lbs. of body weight.

Clinical Signs: Vomiting refers to the forceful expulsion of stomach contents through the mouth. Vomit may contain: food in various stages of digestion, bile (a brown, green, or yellow-colored, rather sticky liquid), blood, or any combination of these three. Types of vomiting that may indicate a more serious problem and would certainly warrant professional assistance include

Regurgitation: Regurgitation is actually not true vomiting; it is more passive in nature. The food is often expelled undigested and possibly shaped like a tube or cylinder. Violent abdominal heaving is usually absent. Regurgitation can occur with a blockage in the upper digestive tract or a problem with the animal’s ability to swallow.
Continuous vomiting: The dog first empties its stomach of food, then begins to vomit foamy yellow or clear fluid. Vomiting which does not stop within a couple of hours is considered continuous. This situation often indicates stomach irritation.
Hacking/vomiting: Vomiting is usually preceded by a coughing or hacking fit. The vomit may contain food or stomach juices. This type of vomiting is usually secondary to a respiratory problem in which a coughing or hacking fit becomes severe enough to lead to vomiting. Some dogs seem more susceptible to this condition than others. Please see page E122 for additional information on coughing.

Chronic vomiting: Vomiting occurs now and then, is not predictable or constant, but continues over a period of weeks to months. It may or may not be associated with eating. Other symptoms of chronic illness may also be noted such as weight loss, poor appetite, and a general lack of energy. Kidney and liver disease, diabetes, and cancer are some of the more serious possible problems. Untreated parasite infections are also a possible cause of chronic vomiting.

Projectile vomiting: Vomiting is unusually forceful, and stomach contents are often expelled a long distance. This type of vomiting is suggestive of a complete blockage in the digestive tract such as some type of ingested object, a tumor, or scar tissue in the digestive tract lining.

Vomiting blood: Fresh blood in the vomit indicates that damage has occurred to the internal lining of the upper digestive tract. Bleeding ulcers, foreign objects, and tumors all have the potential to cause an animal to vomit blood. Certain types of drugs may also cause bleeding from the stomach.

Vomiting stool: Vomit which looks and smells like a bowel movement usually indicates an extremely serious, life-threatening situation. Complete blockage of the lower intestines and severe trauma to the digestive tract are often suspected. Consider this symptom an emergency!

Vomiting in conjunction with neurologic symptoms: Vomiting in an animal experiencing frequent seizures, paralysis, or balance problems (circling, rolling, head tilting), is probably related to a neurologic problem. Correction of the primary neurologic problem will likely correct the secondary vomiting problem.

Diagnosis: Diagnosing the cause of vomiting may or may not be easy, depending on the state of the animal when presented to the veterinarian. Coupled with a physical examination, a thorough history on the dog is essential in deter-mining the cause of vomiting. The doctor may elect to approach the situation conservatively with a temporary restriction in food and water intake. Diagnostic testing such as radiographs and bloodwork may be advised in other cases. More invasive diagnostics such as endoscopy (a camera on the end of a fiber-optic tube placed inside the animal’s digestive tract), contrast-enhanced radiography (dye placed inside the animal’s digestive tract and the progress of the dye is followed with the help of radiographs), fluoroscopy (a moving radiograph), or surgery may be necessary if the diagnosis is especially difficult to make. See Section D for additional information on these tests.

Treatment: Specific treatments for vomiting are based on the exact cause. Treatment of the primary cause is necessary to stop the vomiting and may include dietary changes, counter-acting poison or drug intoxication, insulin therapy, antibiotic therapy, electrolyte replacement, deworming, anti-inflammatory therapy, fluid therapy, and/or surgery. Supportive care to correct the adverse effects of vomiting include fluid therapy, anti-emetic therapy (specific drugs which stop vomiting), electrolyte replacement, and proper nourishment.

Sin,

i hope you little guys are both doing better. I know how it feels to dump a ton of cash into them. Its all worth it and if you ask many vets will set you up on a payment plan.

This is bizarre. Do either of them eat rawhide or something that could cause the blockage?

That would be really odd that they both have blockages?  Unless they both happened to eat part of the same item?

Addie just had regular Xrays for her suspected (and correct) blockage. It showed that gas was backed up in her, and the one taken the next day showed the gas still there so it was a pretty good indicator of a blockage. Her intestines were still healthy in her case, so the blockage was probably not 100%, a small amount of stuff could pass, so she did not lose any of her intestines, a BIG concern with obstructions.

At this point, if they suspect an obstruction they should go in and find out!!

What blood work has been done and what does it show?

Any possibility of a poisoning or chemical ingestion?

Okay here is the deal, they have had Chaos since Friday, he is doing much better. They were worried about a blockage but he has eaten for the last 48 hours without any puking or diareha. He however has taken on more complications. The vet that was seeing him was giving him the big camel hump with fluids. Well they didn't take all the way and it has caused all of the skin to become dead and rotten. So when I went to see my baby today all of his left side was opened up flesh.. The vet says its not a big deal. Just a drain tube and some stiches. I might be trying to sue the other vet for hospital costs. I am not sure if I have a case or not. We are getting close to the 3,000 dollar mark. Chaos is however in great spirits jumping around, I took him for a walk and he didnt quit giving me kisses. He seems doing much better. Chucka is now at the vet for a short stay until he can keep down some food as well. Fingers are still crossed. I might just have to go and shoot out the windows at the other pet clinic to get even money.... I'll have to creep out the house and pull a comando... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That is horrible!!!!    :o  Not a big deal?   His body is obviously dealing with something else and it is a big deal that is also has to expend energy on trying to heal this while dealing with whatever else is going on!!

That IS a big deal!!  It will affect him overall, at the very minimum slow down his recovery and at the very worst impede it completely.

I would call up the original vet and make them aware of what has transpired and make them aware you make be taking action against them but are waiting for the final outcome of this.

Glad to hear that Chuka is doing good and Chaos is doing better.

Don't do any damage to the clinic though, other animals could get hurt.

I am to old to be doing childish things it just seems like fair payback.. And the front window is a waiting area, no animals near it...

I know that it is a big deal, what I should have put is I thought Chaos was going to die from it. The new Vet informed me that it wasn't that serious and that he will heal fine.. Minus the scarring.. He was very hyper today and has back his energy which lowers my worry factor... Now I just need to get them both home.. Who would you contact about suing a vet...

get a statement from the second vet

The funny thing is the Vet kept hinting that it was cause by the other Vet. He wouldn't just come out and say it, but he did mention it as a possibility. I asked what else could've caused it and he stated maybe a bug bite maybe a cut and it getting infected. But it couldn't be any of the what if's. As much as we rub on our dogs and kiss on them we would have found a bug bite or a cut. GURANTEED. I wonder if there is a code of conduct amongst Vets as strange as it sounds. No conspiracy theories just thinking that maybe up here that is how it works. When I called the Critical care unit that helped out with Chucka they told me that the vet was doing the right thing with giving Chaos fluids and to let that Vet just keep helping him. If I would've done that my dogs would've been dead... VERY FRUSTERATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the mere mention of a court action combined with a statement from the second vet when you serve the emergency vet with a subpoena may get a chunk off the bill just so the emergency vet doesn't have to take the time (and time is money) to appear in court

It's not the ER Vet that I am wanting to sue. It's the original Vet that just kep sending Chaos home with us everyday. She is also the one responsible for giving Chaos the fluids that rotted his side off. Or so it seems. She took us for 400-500 dollars and didn't do shit in my opinion. I just don't know where to start. I don't want to call her and talk quite yet cause I will freak out on her.. I don't think that she deserves her license. She didn't do a fucking thing to help my dog. She actually made him sicker..

I just don't know where to start.

get all your paper work in order (from both vets) and go down to the courthouse in town there and tell the clerk you wanna file an action in small claims court, you'll probably have to go to the office and serve the summons to appear personally,I'm sure if ya tell the vet you're seeking a judgment against what you've got as far as a statement from the second vet you'll get his or her undivided attention and maybe they'll cut ya a deal right then and there.......if not they'll have to appear and fight it......

collecting the money is another story but no business wants a civil judgement on thier record so that'll be their incentive to pay it off if ya win

If you paid with a credit card I would call the CC company and ask them to dispute the charges pending legal action. If the docters office calls you about the payment tell them you are looking into legal action against them. Sometimes all you need to do is threaten a little, its worked for me before!

Well shit.. I wrote two pages of answers for SCSG's concerns and they've disappeared.....    >:(  Dammit...

In an nutshell, yes there is an unwritten code of conduct and ethics in the veterinary profession, much like what there is in any other profession, including human medicine.   This code of conduct does not include protecting veterinarians who are willfully negligent in the treatment of their patients, however, it does include NOT libelizing other veterinarians.   SCSG, I've talked with you about this case over the telephone and tried to be as direct as I can about what youve told me.  I've also been as honest as I can about things that I can't determine a cause of because I haven't seen your dogs as one of my patients.   Does that make sense?

there are legal actions that can be done against the veterinarian who is  in question.  Lawsuits aren't always the best way to go because you will always have to pay the lawyers.  Do as Geo said, get things lined up and then consider talking to the state medical board.  Every state has a state board of veterinary medical examiners, who's function is to regulate the licenses of veterinarins within that state.  You can get contact information from here: http://www.bovm.state.id.us/ (http://www.bovm.state.id.us/).

There will be an inquirery into the legality of what has been performed.   From the beginning make it clear that you will be seeking medical reimbursement in the event of a finding of negligence, EVEN IF it requires legal action.  Often times this alone will lead to an out of court settlement.

I did. The vet wasn't to sure about it being a possibility. He didn't test for it, but he said he didn't think that salmonella would show up with low white blood cell counts. He stated he believed it was more of a virus..??? Or GI tract infection..

No, neutropenia (low neutrophil count, and resultant low white cell count) is a hallmark sign of salmonella in all mammelian species (especially herbivores like horses).   Reptiles may show elevated or decreased white cellcounts with systemic salmonella.

The thing is that it may be too late at this point to diagnose salmonella because he's getting better.  Culture requres paired fecal cultures seperated by at least 12, ideally 24 hours.   The question is where did they get exposure to it.....

Well Chaos is coming home today. He will have a drain tube in place.. But that comes out on Friday and Chucka is coming home tomorrow if things go as planned. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Vet I found out that there was no dextrose injected, the other Vet is saying that it was sodium chloride, Serinia ( a new anti vomiting drug) b-12 and Penacilin. What would've caused the skin to be cut off from that any ideas.

I'd think E.Coli before salmonella just based on the nature of the bacteria if it was a dry food.   If I'm not mistaken the moist food contamination issues were also all E. coli.

I guess technically you could get salmonella (or e.coli) from a knucklebone type chew too.

Per teh drug label Cerenia (maropitant citrate) can cause localized allergic reactions.   I'll be honest, I've got very little experience with this drug, so I can only speak from label information.  The simple act of giving SQ fluids to a septic dog can predispose for skin necrosis---like what we talked about on the phone.

But just because a dog tests positive for salmonella doesn't mean they are having a problem with it.   Chances are if you tested my dogs feces over time they would probably test positive for salmonella.  The same has been shown with kibble dogs.  They have done raw diet studies with big cats that showed salmonella all over and none of the cats had a problem.   Salmonella is a bigger hazard to people than animals.

Anti raw people have loved to show these studies pointing out the testing of positive for salmonella.  They conveniently leave out the conclusions, however, that the animals were fine, and that people should practice proper handling and clean up for themselves.

The big salmonella scare!!    ::)  Unless you are going to pick up dog shit with your hands and then lick your fingers   :-X, and if you can manage to properly handle meat for your family, it is not usually a problem.   I say usually because if their is a severely immunocompromised person in the household extra precautions should be taken.

LOL.  I've had salmonella.  Its not a fun disease.  You feel like you are shitting your life out your asshole and then you smell it and puke what's left.

Well Chucka is still a little sick.. No bodily fluid just not back to his running around and acting crazy stage.. Chaos even with his cone and huge slice is crazy again.. He about knocked me over this morning. I was rolling Getting out of bed and he jumped up on me. I wasn;t expecting it and he was pretty strong about it.. I had to love on him for 10 minutes and then of course Chucka was laying in bed giving me the eye wondering where his was.. These dog's are nuts.... ;D

No, I was out catching wild snakes for a research project.  I got shit on real bad by one.  I washed in the creek (it was the only water I had) with soap, but I guess I didn't get clean enough.  About 4 days later I wanted to die.

Hey Sin.  I was wanting to get another pit to compliment Berlin, who is now just over 30+ lbs.  Is it absolutely necessary to keep them seperated when I or my wife are away?  And if so, how long?  I wouldn't want the dogs to start tearing into each other.  In addition, Berlin is just over 4 months old, when would the best time be to get a 2nd Pit?  I'm greatly worried in obtaining a 7-8 week old puppy for fear that Berlin might get a bit overexcited and hurt him.  At the same time, I'm a tad worried about obtaining a full-grown Pit in worries over him possibly harming Berlin.

It seems your dogs(they look damn nice, btw...what bloodline is Chucka, and how large do you expect him to get?) get along, do you leave them alone when unsupervised?

Thanks.

Don't even contemplate getting another dog until Berlin is around 2 years of age.  Getting 2 dogs close to the same age , basically both puppies in your case, and having them live together pretty much assures that they will grow a closer bond with one another and will grow further apart from you.  You already have one dog recovering from an attack, in my opinion you really really need to slow down and wait until Berlin is fully matured before you even ponder the idea of a second dog.  You have a year-18months before he even matures mentally, and right now the Berlin you know will be alot different when he is fully grown.  You don't know much at all about Berlin right now, he is still a baby.

Why the rush to get another dog?  You have a beautiful puppy that you need to mold and guide for the next year or so, that is a huge responsibility in and of itself.

And also, if you have to keep two dogs that are members of the same "pack" separated when you are away, in anyones case, this is a serious issue.  I am not referring to Sin because I have never heard him say this before, I am saying generally speaking.  As much as I give flower shit about alot of different issues, I would not call her dogs "unstable".  She may have to put the little one away for obvious reasons because the risk of injury is so prevalent but in any case where you have two dogs of the same size and since they may not get along or something, you have to separate them...you need to seek professional help because there is problems from the foundation on up in the household.

I don't want to misinterpret what you said - are you saying because I have a toy dog with giant dogs I may have to keep them separate for his safety?  I suppose when the toy is a puppy that is a good idea, and I did that until I was sure all would be fine.  And when Addie was introduced she was kept separate when I was not home until I was sure everyone was integrated fine, which didn't take that long in either case.  Longer in Tad's because he was getting house trained also so didn't have free run of the downstairs.

I think in any case it is wise to have supervised interaction until it is certain that no problems will break out.  That would depend on the individual dogs.  While my dogs (except for Addie) don't take to strange dogs right off, they are not dog aggressive and would walk away if they did not want to interact with the new dog.    So individual personalities would be a big part.

I've heard that if you get 2 puppies around the same time they will bond to each other more than to you?  I've never had 2 puppies at the same time, Bri and Emmett are the closest, 6 months apart, I wouldn't want to puppies at the same time!  oh boy!   ;D

Yes that is what I am saying.  But I mean it in the respect that I have never had a dog that small and would imagine a huge Dane could accidentally injure a small dog without even trying, like even by walking into it.  That is what I meant.  I think it'd be pretty normal if they had to be unsupervised for a long period of time and you crated Tad so nothing would happen when you weren't there.

If you have 2 puppies at the same time they unevitably(sp?) spend more time together than with you.  Also, because they are canines and we are not, they can communicate a little better than us, so time spent is alot more productive.  It would be very very very unlikely that each of those dogs would respect you individually and disregard the bond they share.  This is dependent on alot of factors, and I am also using this in the context of dominant breeds such as a pit bull.

I just generally would not recommend this to anyone.  The day I got Plato I was at the breeder's for 4 hours, 75% of it just talking about various dog related things and the way she does things and her program etc.  She emphatically stated she would never sell two puppies to someone, ever.  I know a woman who breeds Irish Setter's and has the same exact policy.  You would have to be able to devote a large amount of time to pull it off, and really know your stuff.

First I will start with Chucka's bloodline, I am not 100% of it. I bought him off a kid I train with. He was going back to college and couldnt take him. He had just paid 1,000 for him off of www.Camelotpitbulls.com and has the papers. He wanted 500 for him. I told him I would take him for 100 and promise him a good home. It took a little persuading and making him think of who could be buying him. He just didnt want him bred and didnt give me that papers. He did however let me look at the papers and see that he was a camelot.

NOW on to the other question. I personally say if you are going to get another dog do it now. This is based off of my own experiance. I've always and I repeat have always owned two dogs. In Vegas we had two pits of the same age and it was no big deal. My dogs just know who is the boss, I work with both of them at the same time. Plus one is more of the wifes dog and one is my dog. They oth sleep in the bed and have never had issues with either of them. They are both get along very well. I was at first worried that Chaos wouldn't take to another pup but Chaos has taken on the older dog role. Chucka is like the lil kid brother who annoys the shit out of him. CHaos lets lucka know when playitme is over.

We were also worried about leaving them in the kennel together. It's only 10 ft X 10 ft. and I didn't know how they would do pinned up so close. Not a big deal. they don't fight they listen well and wouldn't want one to be with out the other. I am at work for at least 8 hours a day sometimes 12 on nights that I have school. I wanted Chaos to have someone to chill with and cause CHAOS with. I wouldn't change a thing. Never had a problem nor do I expect to. My dogs are so jealous if you love on one you have to 50 lb pits all over you given you kisses. When the alarm goes off I get a bath every morning at 5:30. ;D

PS thanks for the compliments on my boys. I wish Berlin was a girl. He's beautiful as well.

Experts can say what they say and yadda yadda yadda here is your proof. Two puppies do fine with each other. This is just taken about 5 minutes ago...Chucka usually doesnt get on the bed until about 4 in the morning the rest of the night he sleeps on the floor. These guys love each other and be kissing each other like there queer.

Yeah, I disagree with the 2 puppies idea.  It really, really depends on the owners and on the personalities of the dogs.  While they werent' two pits, I got my female and my lab within a couple fo months of each other.  They were very closely bonded and essentially inseperable.  Yet with appropriate training and individual time, they didn't have any problems the entire life of my lab.   It really depends on the owners and their training.
