Title: Anyone else have problems finding clothes that fit?
Post by: Azn Muscle on September 19, 2007, 09:03:06 PM
So I haven't bought clothes in a while, and I decided hey what the hell is time to get some new gear.  I normally am a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy but I recently moved to LA (I'm originally from Hawaii) and I noticed the style is a lot different.  In LA it seems to be all about the metro-trendy gear (borderline queer), and it seems like thats what all the ladies dig (well the good looking ones anyway), so I decided to give it a whirl at the urging of a few of my girl friends here.  I am 5'8'' 185 lbs pretty muscular (not a beast, but not tiny either) and I walk into these designer stores and none of the clothes fit.  Its like all of this stuff is made for people who are like 6'2'' and 140lbs.  So I said F@#@ it and left.  I guess I'll just stick to T-shirt and Jeans.  Anyone else have similar trouble finding clothes that fit well?  Just curious.

185lbs and you can't find clothes?

stop shopping in the goddamn kids section...every store has XL or XXL (though i highly doubt someone who is 185lbs can fit into these)

5'8 and 185 probably isn't as skinny as we think.  I'm guessing by the user name that said gentlemen is Asian so he is probably A) lying about his height and B) has very small joints.  He probably carries decent size at that weight.

Nah in all seriousness bro, be yourself, That is far more important. If if not going to church/going out for dinner etc I always wear loose T, Jeans and smart trainers

Most of these metrosexual bottom boy clothes are too small anyway, I went to store the other day to get a couple of grey tees for the gym and even the XL was skn tight (yeah im a beast i know ;D)

At 5'8 least of your worries shuld be fitting into clothes. If I was that height id be worried about not being able to get my drivers licence or buy alcohol or even get into a rated MA movie without parental guidance.

the problem isn't finding clothes that fit, the problem is finding stylish looking clothes that fit: I need dresshirts with a good amount of tapering otherwise it's like I'm wearing a tent around my waist.

I'm currently 5'10 287-290 and it is absolutely imbossible to find clothes that fit or anything else for that matter. I had to special order the cuff for my blood pressure meter (which it seems i don't even need). Anyway, two weeks ago i went "shopping" with a friend and he found everything and all i found was socks and boxers. By the time we wen't to the third shop i didn't even bother looking trough the racks, i just went to the info and asked: "do you have ANYTHING that fits me?" Everywhere i went i got, sorry no... Except in one place the babe selling the clothes said: "i think we have one t-shirt model that fits you. It didn't.

Usually i can get t-shirts, socks, boxers and shoes, but that's it. I know that these days many bitches like the FAG look, but i don't care and i would never ever put any of those clothes on that 98% of "guys" wear at clubs...

Thanks, last winter i was 304, but i dropped that 15 lbs, because it was just fat and water. My body holds a good amount of subcutaneous water naturally, so if i want to drop like another 8 lbs i can just take dandelion based supplement for a week and look much better, but then my strenght goes little down. My training partner is 5'10 also and he weighs about 210 and looks ok, but our body structures are totally different, i have very wide shoulders and back so i can hold on much more weight than he does.

Yeah, that's a good idea, but seeing that i live in Scandinavia i'd freeze my balls off. Plus, in this day and age no one want's to wear clothes that can mistake them for being muslims. (Except i don't think there's a lot of blond muslims around).  :o

The only issues I have with clothes is finding a shirt that hides my gut  ;D and jeans pants that don't look like they're painted onto my quads. I don't have HUGE legs but in order to find jeans that fit my quads right, I hafta go up a pants size in a loose fit to get them comfy but they never fit around my waist because of this.  >:(  SUCKS but I'd rather wear a belt than have a bitch legs.

Well, since you asked politely, this is what i'll may do. My birtday is 4th of October and that's when i'll see my little brother the next time, he has a art degree (for lack of a better translation/word). And i'll ask him if he can take a few pics. If they come out atleast partly ok, i'll post some. Btw: i'm sure there are some getbiggers that are bigger/better than me.

I don't even own a camera anymore, because i allways break them or loose them. What's wrong with waiting a couple of weeks? When i joined getbig i never intended to post pics, but now i'm contemplating in doing so, just out of courtesy. Cīmon man you're like 40 right? And you can't wait a few weeks? Plus, i have no pics of me, at all in my computer and i don't have a scanner either (don't need one).

Btw: when i do post a pic i don't think anything good will come out of that, i mean there are guys here that don't even lift and they criticize IFBB pros, who are juiced to the gills and the best of the world. One more thing i don't care if you have the worst mental problems in the planet, but enough already with BOOOOOOM! Threads...

It depends on how this guy is built. I have a buddy who has 28 inch quads and a 30 inch waist and he can't find shit to fit him. He is a bit over 210 and taller than this guy. Not many of the hipper clothing makers worry about guys with 29 inch waists, 27 inch quads etc.

let me play a little queer eye for the straight guy here....the current trend in clothes is desconstructivism and very very narrow, narrow shoulders, small arm openings and narrow upper leg width.  ...Even in xxl size you will not feel comfortable.

If  you want to look trendy(I dont know why you would) then take your current sports coat and have  your tailer remove the shoulder pads and narrow the waist. Youll still have the large arm openings for you giant biceps.

Just wait out the trend and you will all be fine...do not panic.

Exactly, most people say "clothes make the man" and for the most part I can agree with that; although, I'm the type of man that can take a $40 shirt and make it look like a million bucks.   See, in my case, "the man makes the clothes."

I comfortably wear 4X in t-shirt to polo style shirts to dress shirts...that fits the best....gotta few 3X and 5X depending on the brand...it's all relative really.   Any quality Big n Tall store has clothes for men twice my size year round.   Look at huge bbs and powerlifters....today they wear everything everyone else does and these dudes are monsters.   That whole "I can't find clothes" stuff is total bullshit.   My best friend is 6'3" and 360lbs....he's bigger than me and has more clothes than me.

I think it is dress pants that people have problems with. Unless they are tailored they are made for the average guy, not a guy with a small waist and big legs.

Yeah, if I buy a nice pair of pants I sometimes need a little alteration, but most of the guys on Getbig are full of horseshit.   Everything is an exaggeration to make themselves seem bigger than life.

Serious question, does anyone wear a bigger than a 40 sized pant on here? I think no matter how much muscle you have, that has to be considered obese.

Wow so many replies  ;D  I'm not trying to come off like I am a mass monster or anything (I think I fall into the 1% of Getbiggers who can't bench 400+ and squat 600+ for reps  ::)), I just noticed that when you shop at trendier clothing stores that clothes don't fit me really well.  Yes I am only 5'8'', so I usually have to wear size L so it doesnt look like I'm wearing a dress, and when I wear a L the sleeves are really tight and the collar area gets distorted.  And when I get bigger sizes that aren't as tight, now the clothing is too long.  I didn't mean to come off arrogant or anything like that, its just a problem I noticed.

Well...most designer clothes or trendier clothes are meant for the average Calvin Klein stick man

hahahahaha, i love these clowns, too big to fit into off the rack clothes, hands are too big to type, hands are too big to fit into the top of the protein container, too big to fit on the Hammer Strength machines at the gym, legs are so big they rub together, lats are so big they cant wipe their ass, etc. ::)

Oh yea, and I meant "designer" clothing not stuff from Big and Tall.  Obviously I am not a mass monster and saying that there is not a shirt on the planet that can fit me, but I'm talking about clothing like Banana Republic, Armani, etc.  Obviously you can go to any joe schmoe store and find a t-shirt that fits, but I'm talking about clothing that is somewhat fashionable.  Believe it or not some people find nice clothing to be attractive.  I know this may come as a shock to all you beasts out there wearing 3XL "Train like a freak" and "shut up and lift" shirts.  ;D

i can relate to Azn Muscle. im 5'8 192lbs, pretty muscular but not a beast by any means. but whenever i go into these trendy shops to pick up a nice set of threads i cant find anything that fits nicely. whenever i move up to an xxl, it actually accomodates my chest and shoulders perfectly but it doesn't accomodate my waistline.

I'm sorry if my initial post came off as arrogant as that is not what it was meant to be.  I am not claiming to be a mass monster or anything, but rather am looking to see if any other people have had similar experiences and what they have done or where they have shopped to fix it.

I want to know where you shop.  Because I find it hard to believe that someone 25lbs heavier than me at my height has no problems finding clothes to wear at nice clothing stores.

Ok as the Resident Fatass I have to shop at Big and Tall to just find a decent label of clothing. I can get jeans no problem I can walk in to about any Big Name store and get a pair of Levi's but when it comes to shirts especially Dress shirts. Hahaha yeah right!!

I'm 5'10" 325 pounds I wear 40-42's in the waist depending on brand but have to get a 4xl Dress shirt to fit shoulders. Do you know how fat a guy is that wears a 4xl and fills out the belly? Jesus when I was 400 plus I had to buy 5xl to fit the shoulders and had to have them tapered in(Thanks Mom) And I was wearing size 48-50 pants then. So now i've dropped almost 10 pants sizes and only 1 shirt size. And you guys bitch about not finding clothes to fit. Everything other then my 3xl tees get tailored by good old mom :)

We were in American Eagle (wife is a very Trendy shopper) and the only thing they had that I could even think of buying was a pair of size 13 flip flops.  The lady even asked if there was anything that I needed. I asked her to try and find something in there that would fit me. She told me "We got some really nice Tee shirts" Hahahaha 2xl and designed to fit a 12 yr old boy :)

I love being BIG all 325 pounds but I hate shopping for dress clothes!!! Thank God for sponsors, 3xl powerlifitng tee shirts and some gym shorts my American Eagle flip flops and I'm happy :)

I never once heard them say they couldnt find clothes to fit them. They never talked about their size ever and they were houses.

Holy Schit, 420 pounds is GIANT. How was it walking around and climbing stairs? Your weekly grocery bill must be like my car payment.

doesn't really look noticeable compared to the 22 inch arms, 17 inch forearms and cannonball delts, you were a pretty damn solid 400 or whatever you were, you look great now as well.
