Are you aware that the federal government defines $19,000 per year as the official poverty line? Maybe you should line up a few more investors (we don't want to know how you do it :-X)

Actually that is not a bad base salary for an entry level sales job. In sales it is eat what you kill. So the base is just there to fall back on and supplement your commissions when you are getting started.

I don't know what ghetto you live in but where my stores are the sales jobs in Gatlinburg that deal with timeshares make like 31,000 a year base + commision. Have a guy that I lift with every once and while that makes a CONSISTENT 100K a year salary WITHOUT A COLLEGE DEGREE. He was not very bright in high school either from what I hear.
If that job is based on the West Coast with the cost of living over there GOOD LORD somebody would starve with 24,000 a year during "down" time. No matter what ANYBODY tells you EVERY sales job has a "down" time....

Debussey let me explain this to you like an 8th grader. EVERY business looking to hire a GOOD sales guy will give a TOP 10% number in comission and usually inflate that # some. In reality they won't make HALF that average and that number is ONLY obtainable by LYING or cheating your customers. THIS IS SALES.... Sad but true in about I would say 90% of sales related jobs....

Chances are if the expected commission was anything significant, he would have mentioned it. Also, the fact that he actually mentioned the base salary thinking that would sound impressive while not mentioning the commission part implies that the commission is likely nominal.

C'mon guys, give Jorge a break. He's actually trying to reach out and HIRE A GETBIGGER! Considering most of us are completely unemployable, that's an admirable thing to do.
Plus, when you consider we still have 2 or 3 people who haven't made their first million and are still painting houses and mowing lawns, there are definitely some viable candidates!

Debussey worked in sales for years with a pretty2very successful track record, basically on pure commission.
Debussey agrees with you that many sales people = idiots, but there = good ones there. You CAN get to the top without being a fuckhead, but it requires an investment in your own skill that most people = not willing to make.

Betencourt Nutrition product dont sell.I have only seen then in a few stores, out of the several hundred I deal with. The stores that did sell there products, said that they only placed one order with Betencourt nutrition because the product they did order didnt sell.They just sat on the shelf, and no one even looked at them or even requested them
Jorge is a nice guy and a great bodybuilder, but his products, arent in high demand.

Could I just manage your web site and handle online orders for the $24000? I could use that money for grad school. I did sales back in the day at a department store, but it was just for the girls, so I'm not really a good salesman. But money is money.

Jorge was a real nice guy to meet at the Olympia and he showed me all of his products and was willing to work with me personally in working a deal in selling his products. Its very rare for any distributor to do something like that.
Unfortunately, Jorge is simply swamped by millions of other distributors who are selling competing products. In addition, he made a really bad business decision in in calling Steve Blechman of MD a pre-madonna tranny for not visiting his table to shake his hand and chat with him last month over Getbig. Because of that outburst, a lot of people won't even associate with him.
Hopefully Jorge can find a good outside sales rep but he's going to need to offer at least $40,000 a year because the last thing he should be shopping around for is an outside sales rep or offer a straight commission

I actually ran into him at the O. He's pretty much a yuppie and wore a watch that cost more than most people cars including mine respectively. He's in pretty good shape but I think he needs to tone down on the expensive wearings and 500 dollar haircut a bit as it makes him look a bit out of place with middle class people like myself....... :D

I don't recall Jorge claiming that his products were the best on the market, but they are the best for flavours. How much differentiation can you possibly have when it comes to basic products like creatine or glutamine anyway?
Regarding the salary, wouldn't it make sense that salesmen should rely heavily on commissions? There needs to be an incentive to do the job well.
Supplement manufacturing is no doubt a tough market and one that I would not want anything to do with! Seems like it is heavily saturated in competition. I can vouch for the quality of Jorge's line.

Jorge was at the Iron Man Expo last year with a huge display of products. And he has some good stuff!
The guy seems like a nice guy to be honest. I think everyone should give the guy a break here.
He is offering someone a decent opportunity. It isnt my thing but Im sure somone out there wouldnt mind giving it a shot.

24 grand is a perfectly acceptable as a base salary position. Come on Haters! The commission is where the real money is. Think before you guys ridicule.

More specifically, not in an industry as saturated and competitive as the supplement industry, selling only one specific line.

Sales = a great thing to be good at. You could benefit greatly from getting a sales job to build up your sales skills.
I did at least a million in sales through my website in the time it's been up.

Also on the fact most sales people are very bad. They have no idea they have to sell themselves.
I started my own business selling to retailers, and even with some 'tricks' i have written down to put my product on the shelf, they are last minute resorts once they think it's ok but need an extra push. If the person doesn't want to buy off me, they don't buy off me. They have to like you and you have to know how to adapt your personality in each case. Which many many people have no idea how to do.
