Considering i have a girl i really don't know exactly the answer for you but i do believe 20 months is early when it comes to both sexes. They say girls are easier than boys and Taylor was COMPLETELY daytime potty trained at 2 1/2 but wears a pullup at night and DOES pee in that thing occasionally.

The newspaper idea is funny but i can see where maybe the wifey didn't like it too much. Just let him watch you when you go and believe me, they do learn and will not be going to the prom in a diaper...it's a long process that parents need to be patient with.

Hope that helps.

Lisa

PS. While we are on the subject of children, anyone have an idea how to get the dang binkie out of her mouth (she turned 3 in March) and how to get the precious OUT OF OUR BED at night?

Our first started when he was around 20 months or so, from what I can remember.  Our second took a bit longer...I think he was over 2 years old.

No perfect age for potty training - I've seen anywhere from 19 mths to 3.5 years.  The thing is - they'll let you know when they're ready.  It never seems to work when it's forced.

Lisa - as far as the binky goes - we used the 3rd birthday as a milestone to get rid of it - talked it up....got her ready....etc.  We said we needed to give to hospital so new babies could have one.  The first night was a little rough, but the habit was broken with no problems after that.

Rob, I have one of each and both my kids started potty training just under 2 years old.

If the kitchen is where he seems to wanna take off his diaper and go,  Put the potty chair in there and once you see him pulling at the diaper...bring him right over to the potty.  You have to show major excitement when he goes on the potty chair, like it is THE BEST THING in the world and you are so proud.  You should also be taking him into the bathroom when you go (and unfortunately you are going to have to pee sitting down to show him how it's done).  Standing up for little one's is very difficult to learn as they think it's a toy and will pee on everything once they realize they can "control" where they aim.  Not to mention it confuses them when they have to poop.  Once he masters peeing and pooping on the toilet without a problem...you can get a stool and then show him how the "big boys" pee standing up.   :)

Ahhh the potty training years lol Those were the days.

BTW I agree with LL's methodology, PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE and more PRAISE!

You know you save a bundle after they are potty trained.

Yeah, i guess i didn't get into the whole praise deal but that is SO important...for both daughters (9 years apart) we used those little poppers. As soon as they were done doing their thing we would pull the little string on the popper and confetti would shoot on them and we actually danced around even while they were still sitting...they loved it!!!!

Milania just told Bob "peepee" this morning.  I think we are going to have to use her "princess potty" now!!  I'm pretty excited.  This is a big milestone for them, and i think she is doing it a little early.  She is just a little over 16 mos old.

I caught like 3 min of that family with like 8 kids...the one where the lady had 6 kids at one time!  She is potty training now, and gives them 1 m&m when they use the potty!  lol  unfortunatly, with M&M's in my house...they would be gone before milania even used the damn thing!!
