Title: Q&A with IFBB Pro Chris Faildo
Post by: flexingtonsteele on July 02, 2008, 06:01:56 PM
This thread will be a Q&A with IFBB Pro Chris Faildo who recently won the overall at the 2007 team universe. Ask him anything  you would like. To begin the thread, Chris participated in an interview with myself, this is just so everyone can get an idea of who Chris is, just incase you dont know.

First off thanks for doing this Interview Chris. Now to the questions.

FS: Where are you from and what is your ethnic background?
CF: I am born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii (Diamond Head, Sandy Beach, Pearl Harbor).

FS: How did you first get started in bodybuilding?
CF:Got started in BB 27 years ago while picking up a muscle mag off the news stand. Wow! I wanted to look just like those guys with all those muscles.

FS: What made you make the decision to become a lifetime natural bodybuilder, and have you ever been tempted to take steroids.
CF: Being raised by great parents with high standards and morals made me decide to be a lifetime drug free Bodybuilder.  I was and never will be tempted to enhance my physique with drugs.  I am proud of my accomplishments without the use of steroids or diuretics and feel honored to be one of the best in my field.

FS: What are your philosophies on nutrition, everyones differs so what approach do you take to get so shredded?
CF:  Nutrition is my Forte.  I am not only dedicated with the weights but also 100% dedicated with what goes into my body.  I only eat for fuel and never for taste, except for my cheat meal on Sunday in the offseason.  I am an IFBB Pro and should look like one everyday. I am never out of shape and feel great year round!  Getting shredded for a show is not easy, but it makes it alot easier when you're not carrying tons of body fat.

FS: After your recent trip to Korea to compete in the IFBB World Amateur Championships. How did you feel to compete against athletes who obviously werent as "natural" as you and you were using some type of assistance whether it be insulin or GH or whatever?
CF: Competing in the Amateur Championships is a dream come true for anyone.  I thought I was in the top 3 after pre-judging but the judges thought otherwise. I was very confident going into Korea as it shows it all on my DVD.  I compete to win and never think about anyone else in my class.  I brought the best package that I could have and let the judges decide if it is good enough.  I know other countries were not playing by the rules, but I will not let that distract my focus and beliefs.  I may have took 9th in that show but it does not put out fire that burns everyday to be the best natural bber in the world.

FS: Do you have any plans to compete in the under 202 class.
CF: The 202lbs. class in the Pro ranks is tempting but I must be realistic.  I'm only a buck 65 and that would get killed on stage with those monsters.  Who knows, I may take a chance someday.  "The Hawaiian Hurricane" will be back for a pro debt!

FS: Do you currently have any sponsorships? Sponsors?
CF: Come on, who wants to sponsor me?

FS: Finally do you have a website that people can get in contact with you at?
CF: My web site is www.cfaildo.com

Aloha everyone and thanks for welcoming me to Getbig.  As for offseason and contest nutrition- it basically is the same.  I do not eat anything bad in the offseason except for Sunday dinners.  I use a very high protien diet, low fat and mod carb throughout the year.  I never get over 15lbs. heavier then contest weight and this 15lbs. comes from excess protien consumption.

Hey Chris thanx for stopping by.

I was curious.

What do YOU consider being natural??

Like what substances would someone use that you would then deem them no longer natural??

Aloha Chris, It's good to see you posting here.

Q. What supplements do you recommend for the natural competitor?

Q. What type of cardio regime do you endorse? hi intensity short duration or long/slow?

Flexingtonsteele, anything you can buy over the counter is considered fair game for me.  If you can't buy it that way-you are cheating yourself and should not be entering Natural shows.

AVBG, I highly recommend using a good glutamine and meal replacement for starters.  As for cardio- moderate intensity, longer duration works for me.

Chris, do you prefer to make your own meal replacements so you know exactly what is in them? Or do you have a special brand of product that you like using?

Wow, just sent you a welcome on your Q&A too.  Thanks Milos for all your help over the years.  I still recall you helping me out during our Metrx booth days.  I will never forget how you showed me how to hold my wheels in the front relax stance.  Your leg separation is what I'm after.  I will try to make it out to your gym next month.

Yo flexington, I'm still old school and use original Metrx with a scoop of metrx whey.  Now that Milos is aboard maybe he can share some info on his brand of protien and supps.

hi chris
great to have you here, i'm a lifetime natural too and your really an inspiration ..

i got a question :
what do you think about post-workout high GI carbs during cutting phase?
is it necessary? i get so much harder, leaner cutting all high-GI carbs including postworkout when dietting
and i don't lose muscle or strength ether compared to when i was eating postworkout high GI carbs.
For a natural athelete isn't it better to not eat high GI carbs postworkout to not cut-off GH levels?
(especially when cutting)
i was wondering what you do ..

As for Gi carbs, I will always use waxy maize after workouts.  This seems to be working really good for me during the offseason and contest phase.  It helps me stay fuller and never has any affect on my conditioning. Then an hour after that I drink another shake consisting of 60grams of protien 20 grams of carbs.  Get the DVD bro, can't go wrong.

Lots of my nutrition is cover in my DVD, you wont be disappointed.  As for the Bodybuilders in the World Championships- I had no problem with them being juiced to the gills.  I was the first person to be called out in the first round in prejudging and placed 9th.  Oh well, I was competitive with them all and thought I should have been either 2nd or 3rd.  I did my best and couldn't have done anything more. I'm not happy with the placing but very happy with my accomplishemnt as being a lifetime drug free bodybuilder battling it out at the Worlds.

Thanks bro, as of now I'm just trying to promote my DVD www.cfaildo.com and take care of all of my appearances.  I will not go back to the TU anymore.  Winnnig the overall at the TU last year was it for me.  Iam thinking about the 202lbs. class in the Pros, but that will take me a while.

you'd represent the naturals well in the 202 and under, of course you'd be competing with the like of Dave Henry and the others. but youve been a great ambassador for naturals and a great point could be made with your appearance on the pro stage.

Sup Chris, glad to have you here! Just a few questions about your diet. If off-season, and pre-contest is essentially the same w/ the exception of a sunday cheat meal during the off-season, how do you manage to put on weight? Do you eat slightly higher carbs during the off-season?  I noticed in your dvd you eat around 200-250 grams of carbs a day with about 350 grams of protein right? Oh yeah, and the peanut butter as well. I'm not sure if my macro counts are right but it seems close. Also do you weigh out your meats after it's cooked or before? I haven't finished the DVD yet either, so I'm sorry if the cover this in the DVD!

Yea sadly Chris, thats the beast that is GETBIG, they talk shit about everybody, and half of them arent even bodybuilding fans. Hell they even talk shit about Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates IN THEIR PRIMES. So no one is safe.

But that is why, we have the positive board. I want to make this a bodybuilding only board, where the focus is on bodybuilding solely. And with pros like you, its really helping out, and this board is getting more popular by the day, and in case you havent noticed, we've kept all the hate outta here, so only the true fans post.

Thanks for posting here, as time goes on, this board will grow and grow, hopefully into the best on getbig. Thank you for being a part of it.

Of course it was the right move to join, look at the responses in this thread.
The Positive Board is in place for people that don't want to deal with the bashing/flaming of the G&O, which can get pretty rough. We appreciate you taking the time to answer questions and share your experiences. If you do brave the G&O, they usually lighten up after awhile, if you can stand the heat. ;)

All in all, though I think the people on the Positive Board are happy you are here and we look forward to you posting for a long time.

Well said Chaos,

It's an honor to have you here to answer questions Chris...

When you diet down for a show, you mentioned your macronutrients are around 250carbs, 350protein, and you said relatively low fat.

Do you cycle your carbs?  Or do you just keep the carbs at around 250grams and use cardio and Intense gym sessions to burn the fat off?

Thanks for joining. Hope you'll share some good info.

If anyone starts talking trash I'd just ignore it. It seems to be the popular thing in some areas to trash anyone who's had success. You've already achieved a lot in your career and you certainly don't have to
validate yourself to anonymous people online.

I don't cycle my carbs at all.  I keep them consistant throughout the entire 12 weeks of dieting.  Yes, my cardio, training and posing sessions gets me into that dry shredded stage that I strive for in every show.  My offseason nutrition plays a key role in this phase also.  Iam fairly lean in the offseasn due to the fact that I eat clean everyday.  I can't express how important it is to view my DVD.  I can answer your questions on these boards but it doesn't really show the true picture of what I do from wake up to bedtime.

sorry chris, my thread on the g&o got out of hand. Its half and half who believe you, but you should take that as a compliment. ;)
Being trashed on the G&O makes me train and focus harder in the gym.  I love those who don't believe that I am 100% Natural.  Yes, I do take it as a compliment but sometimes it gets very irritating knowing how much work I have put into this whole thing.

Chris,

You look amazing bro!  Don't let these haters hiding behind their keyboards get you down, I know every one of them would trade their physique for yours in an instant!  Its good to see a fellow local boy doing well (I grew up in Manoa, live in CA now), and I am interested in picking up your DVD as I am a natural trainer myself and it seems like there aren't that many DVDs featuring naturals.  Can you tell me whats covered in your DVD?  Is it basically pre-contest prep stuff?  It seems like you got a lotta footage in there, and I'm just curious to know what you cover because it really doesn't say much about the DVD on your website (maybe I missed it?).  Anyway keep posting here too, you are an inspiration and resource to the board.  Thanks.

From your macro ratios i'm guessing your calories are around 3300 a day, correct? sure seems to work for you!

Thanks Chris, I actually ordered your DVD last Wednesday so I should have it in this week.

What particular foods do you consume while dieting?  Do you feel that there are a particular few that you should stick to when trying to cut fat, or do you just try to keep your macros consistent and eat whatever it takes to get there?

Aloha AZN, thank you for considering purchasing my DVD.  The DVD covers everything that I do on a daily basis.  Mitsuru Okabe captured me 3 weeks out from The World Championships, training, eating, preping and cooking my meals, spending time with my family, walking the dog, training my clients at Golds, posing sessions, down the beach posing, tanning, and alot more extras.  The interview portion reveals it all and this DVD is a must get!  It is a bit long (6hours+) but very informative and entertaining. I would recommed getting a copy today at www.cfaildo.com

Muscle Center, you are correct with the USA Team.  Kiyoshi Moody is a perfect guest psoer for that show.  He will bring the house down.  I know you will too.  I wish I was coming to Japan this year.  I had two guest posing appearances in Japan this year but both were canceled due to not letting any IFBB Pros guest pose in Japan anymore. Do you know anything about this?

I am very anal about my nutrition everyday.  I consume eggs, chicken, steak and protein shakes for my protein intake and oatmeal, rice, and veggies for my carbs.  It's alsways the same!  You will see it soon on the DVD. Give me a review when your done watching it.

Question on the shoulder training segment. I noticed you did full range of motion lateral raises, supersetted w/ heavy partial lateral raises. I might have to give these a try, just wanted to know the reasoning behind this technique.  Finished disc 1, halfway through disc 2, and I must say this is the most informative, and entertaining bodybuilding dvd in my collection! I've got the Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman, and the Titans series videos, and they all put me to slêep! My girlfriend actually watched this video with me, and she has A.D.D!

I'm glad you enjoyed the DVD.  I've been geting alot of positive feedback about it too.  Thanks!  As for my shoulder routine- partial laterials were done to stimulate more of my laterial head.  This is very important for me to do since I need to creat a better V-Taper.  It's all about balance and creating a perfect illusion on stage.  Cap those delts by using that movement and you'll notice a huge difference in the way your body looks. Good luck bro.

Can't wait to give it a try on my next shoulder day.  Another exercise that looks interesting is the bent over arc dumbell rows on your second back day.  Are there any other unique exercises you usually do as well? Also, what's your take on diet soda? I noticed you didn't drink any.  Some say it doesn't affect fat burning, and others say to avoid it.

I have always been a fan pf your physique, and am thrilled to see you answering questions on here.
You are proof that a bodybuilding doesn't have to weigh 250 plus lbs to look very impressive.
Sadly, naysayers will blame any impressive physique on "all drugs".

Haward, I take great pride in being a natural bodybuilder.  Yes it takes tons of hard work and sacrifices but I wouldn't change it for anything. My passion for the sport is what drives me everyday. Who cares what others think, at the end of the day it's all about what you have done and accomplished.  Train hard and believe.

I'm still eating the same thing.  I don't find it strict when I'm eating the same things over and over again.  Its what separates me from the others.  I always want that shredded look come contest time so I know by eating this way year round only helps me obtain that look.  To hell with those non believers on the G&O Boards, they don't know shit about me!

15lbs on your frame and with paper thin skin, plus out-of-this-world conditioning would look amazing!! You do look great as it is though. I'm not sure whether I'll dabble with any AAS again, but either way... I hope that I can find a way to get as conditioned as yourself.

I'm tired of having a sugar belly so I'm putting my ego aside and cutting, cutting, cutting. I hate feeling depressed and skinny fat!!!

I'm still waiting for them to produce the super-duper drug stacks that they claim Clarence Bass and Vince Gironda used to get shredded.

After all, they swear up and down that nobody can carry 165 ripped pounds of muscle, without taking chemicals out the wazoo.

Do you think that, at this point in your career, bulking up would help in your quest for mass, say a 4500-calorie diet?

I'm surprised that you did not get one of my DVD's, it shows it all.  Anyway, yes I use MRP's, waxy maize, nitric oxide, water and green tea-that's all the liquids I use everyday.
This is very important in my nutritional plan.  I use these product everyday at different times.

Chris, I'm also from Hawaii and moved back here after living in Cali for a while. I think the flak you're getting is that nobody believes you can get in that kind of condition on just eggwhites, a "shit load of asparagus," and training hard. You said that anything OTC is fair game. Maybe you should just tell it to us straight and save all of us a lot of time and money and advise us as to just what are the effective anabolic compounds OTC at this time. And I don't mean creatine, glutamine and Muscle Tech products. There's so much hype that it's difficult to tell what will really helps us and what are worthless and possible toxic. I mean, being over 40 surely your test levels are not what it use to be naturally. What products do you take to counter act this? No one will think any less of you and will respect you for being open and honest and give you more credibilty.

You are very kind Chris...Your leg separation is in separated level of separation section of superb muscle separation - separating your kind of leg separation to carefully separated divisions of necessary levels of leg separation required for bodybuilding competitions.
Considering separated aspects of separated judging rounds of separated nature of bodybuilding competitions where everything is separated for separation reasons...like we really need to separate rounds and do them separately while leg separation is hardly judged separately in all the separated rounds after separated opinions of already separated officials in separated action of separation department (clearly trying to enforce separation from leg separation requirements separately voted against separation opposition on separate days with separated ideas of separation in separated leg separation meetings of the "leg separation above all" groups with all separated agendas in their own separated way of considering leg separation as the true leg separation needed for separated levels of competition in selective separated weigh classes were separation of the legs could mean separated judging as I mentioned - in separated rounds clearly separated in leg separation consideration observed separately from everything else...)...on separated days in separated Countries and/or separated Islands of Hawaii, where leg separation is supreme...

Now, would you like to talk about leg striations?

Anybody?

Remember - this is POSITIVE board and I have my "diplomatic immunity"...

I must have great genetics.  The only product that i use to enhance my testosterone is Tribestan.  That is bought OTC.  I use a tons of supps but you only wanted to know the ones that boost my test.  Well thats it!  I hope this helps.

I'm surprised that you did not get one of my DVD's, it shows it all.  Anyway, yes I use MRP's, waxy maize, nitric oxide, water and green tea-that's all the liquids I use everyday.
This is very important in my nutritional plan.  I use these product everyday at different times.

I mentioned in another thread that I have not seen your DVD, which is why I asked that question. Do you think that using a weight gainer instead of an MRP would help (i.e. IsoMass Xtreme Gainer) or do you find that such products do your physique more harm than good?

That's primarily a Tribulus Terrestris supplement, isn't it?

That is correct.  I also use Arginine, lysine caps before and after workouts.

You indeed have great genetics. You also have a level of drive and discipline that few of us could ever match. I've already heard some positive reviews of your DVD from those I know and respect. There seems to be a lot of info and tips that can benefit anyone (boiling your rice in green tea? Never thought of that but sounds great). I am placing my order today. And it always a pleasure to support a local boy.

Thank you for my reply but I think you know what I meant by my question. I'm sure you use a ton of supplements as most of us do but I was referring to the various OTC compounds that can be almost as effective as steroids. The plethora of prohormones on the market. So much hype. I have use anabolic steroids and see nothing wrong with it but recent events dictate that I now have to go the natural, or at least legal, route.

Is there any prohormone on the market that you think are worth a damn that could help an athlete or recreational bodybuilder build size and strenght? Life is short. Going to the gym on a regular basis as an adult with adult responsiblities does require some level of discipline and commitment. A lot of us have been at this for a while and experimented with various training protocols and are constantly tweaking it. I, as with most others, want to make the most of what we have and do whatever we can to improve and make our time in the gym more productive.

Any advice, tips and recommendations will be taken to heart. I'm already going to get
Tribestan just on your word alone.  I already use arginine and lysine pre workout.

Thank you again for your reply and for being on this board. This is a tough crowd and many have come and gone. I think Jay Cutler lasted about two months but I bet he still lurks every now and then.

funny you should show up here being that you also said this about Chris Faildo.  ::)

I live in Hawaii and though I don't know Chris all that well that he would speak freely to me I do know some that are much closer to him. When his drug use comes up tren would always be on top of the list. That was the compound he liked the most. Apparently he decided long ago that he just wasn't going to go the mass monster route. He didn't think it would suit him or if he could even pull it off. He figure his strength would be conditioning and tren helped him achieve this hard vascular look. He also did favored orals (var, halo) because it was easier to control and manipulate so that he could pass a drug test.

i know this is a positive board and by all means i am a huge fan of Chris and believe he is natural. i also think Chris will find what Pellius said about him interesting. for Pellius to talk trash about someone then give him credit is basically talking out of both sides of your mouth brah..so would you like to tell Chris personally where you got your information about KNOWING that he took tren and orals?? be real brah.

Mods please dont earse this post :-\  i believe this is positive being that im trying to straighten some things out and put speculation on a members part to rest.

i have a questions for Chris while I'm here......have you always trained like a bber or have you tried other types of training, like  strongman or powerlifting?

Yes, my DVD is selling really well.  The reviews have been only positive.  Lots of info and secrets that I have been doing all these years are on the tape.  As for prohormones- don't have any clue, sorry.

Thanks for backing me up brah, i didn't know he posted those things about me.  Oh well, come on Pellius- i never took any tren or orals-what the hell is that? I'm serious, don't know a thing about any type of illegal drugs, just don't want to know. I've past all of my test because I am clean, that's all to it! I'm not afraid to take a test anytime.

I always trained like a bodybuilder.  I incorporate powerlifting exercises like the deads squats and bench, but with higher reps.  I always leave my ego at the front door.

no problem Chris. you train hard and work hard also from what i hear. everyone that has met you in person has nothing but good things to say about you. i trained at golds when it was The Gym and you were always genuinely personable. i cant stand it when people lie about someone else or baselessly say someone is on drugs just from looking at a picture of yours, they just dont know. or like Pellius did; just make it up. since this is a positive board i wanted to clear the air about that.
great dvd, the part where you talk about your passion for the sport really spoke volumes.

I did not mean by any means to talk trash about Chris. What gave you that impression on my posts on this board? I did mention on another broad (G&O) that I was told by those who claim to know Chris that he used tren. I made it clear that I don't know Chris personally and this was just gym talk. Chris' name came up, guy say he's tight with Chris and he really does this and that. I don't even know these guy,s name and just took it with a grain of salt as I don't really care. I mentioned this as a response to previous comments because I thought it was interesting that this fellow mentioned tren and gh15 insists that Chris drips tren.

On this board, the positive board, where Chris is here now and putting himself on the line, I am taking him at his word that he doesn't use anabolic compounds that are illegal in the USA. In a way he should take it as a compliment that he has taken himself to such a high level. To such an unbelievable level that people refuse to believe he has never taken illegal steroids. But I also believe he does everything he can, short of illegal steroids, to achieve such a condition. Why wouldn't he. I'm sure many want to know what things are out there that can help us improve other than just creatine and glutamine.

Chill, my brother.

I hope my previous response to Atheist will suffice. Context is everything. Many find it hard to believe that you can achieve such a level of conditioning without hormones. I mentioned that some guys were talking about you in the gym and claimed they know you and that tren was one of your favorites. It was in response to gh15 who brought up tren and I found it interesting that same compound was also mentioned. Gh15 seems to know his stuff but like anybody he can be wrong, I found this out in a most painful way.

You are here now, putting yourself out there to anon internet posters, and taking on all comers. I am here on this board because I want to know as much as I can. I want know know what you know and know what you do. You obvious know things that I don't. You are willing to answer questions. How often do nobody's like me get a chance to interact with people like you and Milos? This is the positive board and I will abide by the rules and conditions.

We are from the same generation. I remember Ernie Santiago was the man when I was growing up. You're the man in Hawaii now. I never got a chance to talk to Ernie but would just stare at him in the gym when he wasn't looking. He was another one that shunned the grostequely massive look but achieved that superb eye-popping conditioning that I would much rather have.

You're here now and taking questions and I want to take advantage of the opportunity. You can answer any question or no questions at your pleasure and convenience.

Finished watching the dvd a while back, and I must say it's my favorite Mits vid ever! Now I've got a couple  questions for ya Chris.

1. Supplements- It seems you pop a handful of pills down with each meal.  What exactly are they and what brand are you using? I know you take vitamins, tribestan, glucosamine, vasopro, etc.... but I'd like to know your whole supplement regimen, if that's ok!

2. Post workout- So you drink Metrx Ultramyosyn whey, bout 60 grams. How many grams of waxy maize are you taking with this shake, and what brand?

3. Diet drinks- I didn't notice you drinking any in the video, but I did see a diet coke at the family dinner. Do you use diet soda during contest prep?

4. Cardio- Do you keep your heart rate steady for the whole duration of your cardio, or do you do intervals? I know it's moderate intensity, but that means different things for most folks. Where do you usually keep your heart rate at?

That's bout all the q's I got for now. Thanks for your time Chris!

you may not have have meant it but read your post again. you passed off hearsay as actual fact by your verbage. never did you say that the your friend  could have been wrong, nor did you say that it was mere speculation. you implied what you heard was fact on the boards by the words you chose to use.
reread your post again. i have a problem when people are completely dishonest towards someone they dont even know, what would their motivation be for that? success comes with its detractors and im sure Chris knows this now.  Chris your doing a great promoting the sport in the right way.
im done with this subject on this particular board, Pellius if you want to continue you can PM me. there are alot of people who have questions for Chris and i dont want to interfere, just wanted to get that straight.

Chris has put out one of the better bodybuilding dvd's ive seen, most informative and entertaining, honestly.

This is the quote I think you are referring to:

"I live in Hawaii and though I don't know Chris all that well that he would speak freely to me I do know some that are much closer to him. When his drug use comes up tren would always be on top of the list. That was the compound he liked the most."

I don't know if this constitutes as "stating this as a fact." But that is a subjective evaluation. If I had to rewrite it I would say that I don't know Chris at all, other than the usual "Hey, any shows coming up?," or "You're always in great shape." type of comments. He's a friendly guy but I know enough to leave him alone while he's training. I would also change the "much closer to him" to "claim that they know him well." To say "much closer" implies that they are buddies. I don't know that. But in relation to me they would be much closer but again I'm just going by what they said.

You are a fan of Chris and you're sticking up for him. I understand that. Perhaps you think I have some ulterior motives. But you are correct that this is not the board for these types of arguments.

Actually, it's funny. While writing this I just scrolled back up to reread the quote to see if I missed anything. The tone of the last two statements does imply, in an almost a matter of a fact way, as if it was just a given, that Chris does use tren. I can see your point. What can I say? Often something is lost in the written word. I leave it to Chris to determine whether or not I have an agenda and if I merit any acknowledgement to my inquires and questions. If not, I still can benefit simply by reading this thread.

To Athiest and Pellius, just bury it guys.  I am not offended at anyones comments on the G&O boards.  Sometimes i get upset at the comments but it has followed me since becoming great at the sport I have so much passion for.  I am honest to all from day one that I will never use any illegal drugs. I am a man of my words and I know I will have many who think otherwise.  Like Pellius said, I take it as a compliment.  I am the first to admit that I have superior genetics with small joints and round muscle bellies.  Not to mention a very fast metabolism.  I am not big in sturcture but make up for it with fantastic shape and condition.  It took me 27 years to create this physique that I display and have sacrificed many things to accomplish this.  I am proud to reveal all of this in my DVD as some of you know and think it is something special for me to share.  I am by no means the best natural bodybuiler out there but I would like to consider being one of the best in the world.  I would like the viewers of my DVD to really watch the interview portion-I say it all.  Thanks again to all who have supported me through this amazing journey.  I will keep working on my physique and hopefully unleash a new and improved package in the 202 someday.

Thanks for the reply! So your cardio is intense. Is it intense to the point where you can't carry on a conversation? I ask because I've heard high intensity cardio is catabolic, just wondering what's your take on this. Just checked out your old website faildo.com. What's up the hurricane survival manual? Do you plan on making a new and updated manual? That'd be awesome!

I can always carry on a conversation when doing cardio, i just don't like talking while doing it though. I will not release any other training manual, its all in the DVD.

Hey folks, still on my trip.  I am now in Vegas for the USA's.  I'll be here till Tuesday and then will back on the islands. The trip has been great so far. I've been hitting the weights at Golds on Flamingo and was pounding it at Golds in Venice LA.  I have been eating on time and taking in my shakes too.  I am a Pro bodybuilder and I will always be hard at work even on business trips.  Like i said, training and eating on time is just a lifestyle for me- not a job.  I will be back home soon to answer more of your questions.

Finished watching Chris Faildo’s new DVD.  Here’s what I thought.

First of all, it’s really long (2 discs, 6 hours).  It goes through everything in detail from his diet, training, cardio, to his house and dogs, and there is a really good interview section.

My favorite part of the video was the interview section.  Here, he talks about how he got into bodybuilding, why he has chosen to be drug free for life, his personal training career, etc.

My second favorite part/s was watching Chris prepare his food.  It was really nice to see someone put so much effort into preparing their food, weighing it out, packing it etc.  He puts a lot of importance into diet and is very meticulous; it was nice to see this.

From watching the video, its apparent how driven, focused, and passionate about bodybuilding Chris is.  All in all, it’s a very good video.

Thanks for the review Jeff, hope your training for the TU is off the hook.   I hope the DVD gives you that extra push towards your goals.  Good luck in NY.

No problem.

Yeah, the DVD is motivating; ESPECIALLY when the person watching it is also getting ready for a show.  For some reason, its nice to see other go through the same things.

However, the food you prepare looks delicious!  Watching you pepare and eat it makes me want to eat it.

Hey folks, just got back from Vegas.  Wow what a long trip.  I attended the USA Championships and supported one of my clients that was competing in the Figure C class.  She (Lori Brooks) took 12th out of 38 girls- not bad.  I trained everyday while I was there and had some kick ass workouts.  Meet tons of fans and was surprised how many of them purchased my DVD.  It is still selling well and a must get DVD.  www.cfaildo.com
I am ready for more questions so go for it.

Anytime, anywhere, I got nothing to hide.  I said it before and I'll say it agian- I'm totally clean bro.
I'll take a drug test unannounced anytime.  Why don't you purchase my DVD and watch the interview portion of it, you'll understand why I do it MY way. www.cfaildo.com

I think he's more than willing to do that. But, that ain't the issue.

Once he passes them, some folks aren't going to leave it at that. They're going to come up with all sorts of excuses and "theories" as to why Faildo is a drug user, i.e.:

"He came off, in time for the test".
"He's taking (insert the mystery drug here), which can't be detected in the urine".
"He's a good liar" (if a polygraph is part of the testing protocols).
"They didn't test his blood" (if a blood test isn't done)
"(Insert mystery drug here) can't be detected in the blood" (if a blood test is done).

And that's just the short list.

I'm not saying that there aren't guys who compete in natural shows that try to cheat by taking drugs. In fact, I think they are the very ones who scream the loudest. They figure, if they're taking roids ans STILL getting beat, their opponents MUST BE TAKING them, too.

That's not necessarily true.

In short, everybody ain't "clean"; but, everybody ain't "dirty", either.

Hi Chris.

I admire your physique and your guts to stand against the attacks on this forum.
How would you advise a fellow like me who can train only 3 days a week because of work? How many sets and reps? I am natural and have been that all the time. I am 47 years old and would like to gain 5 kilograms of muscle. Have been training for many years, but more like a powerlifter. I am starting to get pain in my shoulder and knees.
Hope you can help me.
Thanks.

I would suggest training Chest and back on the first day, Legs including hamstrings and calves on the second, and shoulders and arms on the third.  I like to keep my reps in the 8-12 for uppers and 12-15 for legs.  Try some glucolsamine for that shoulder and knee pain.  Good luck, Chris

The 202lbs. class was crazy and stacked.  Flex Lewis and Roc Shabaz looked incredible and so was everyone else who competed.  I would have done well and maybe crack the top 15, hows that for doing well? As you can see the bodybuilders in the 202's mean business.  I've got lots of work cut out for me and will keep doing it the Faildo's way.  Someday it will be my turn to return to the stage and see how my physique stands up to these awesome bodybuilers.  As for now its in the trenches.

I know they're pretty anal with bringing stuff on to a plane, but just wondering if I could cook up a 4 days worth of chicken and lug it on board in a cooler. I'd figure you would know since you travel back and forth from Hawaii to the mainland!

Anything cooked is good to go.  You would need to pack it with blue ice and not regular ice or dry ice they will not allow that.  Don't cook too much, here in Hawaii you can get it all.  Chicken breast, steaks, brown rice... Have a safe trip and if you get a chance stop by at Powerhouse Gym on Keawe ST.

Yes folks it is a shame that Gold's Gym Honolulu is no longer in business.  I am training myself and all of my clients at Powerhouse Gym.  It might be a blessing for me because this gym has so much more to offer.  I am finding out that I was totally stagnated at Gold's and was not trying different movements and exercises because of the old machines and just staying in my comfort zone.  Now it is all new and I am very excited to be training in a brand new environment.  I only can see positive things happening here and look forward to hitting the stage   in the near future with a new and improved physique.

Typical leg day always starts off with leg extensions.  Then its over to front or back squats followed by leg press.  I like to work my hammys too into the workout.  Leg curls, hack squats, stiff leads, walking lunges.  There you go!

No one duplicate K. Levrone.

I also guest appeared and had a booth at the Mr. Nippon contest. Talk about having tons of fans! My DVD, Pictures and shirts where selling off the hook. The Japanese bodybuilders are getting very knowledgeable about the sport and are making incredible progress with their physiques. I am good friends with the top three bodybuilders (Yano, Godo, Sue) that will represent Japan in the World Championships.  i would like to wish them the best of luck!

Hey Chris, since it's off season time, what's your diet like now? Is it essentially the same as in your DVD? Still eating peanut butter with every meal too? Looking good in those pics btw, it's amazing how you can maintain that conditioning year round.  Just got back from Hawaii BTW, I was unable to train at Powerhouse (I only have Gold's and 24 Hour Fitness passes) so I trained a few times at the 24 Hr on Kapiolani. I think I bumped into your first training client Tim Lee there. That's a BIG MOFO for sure! I'm not 100% sure if it was him or not, does he train at 24 Hr now? Gotta say, you're very lucky to be living in Hawaii btw, it's truly paradise there. I hope to move to Oahu one day there's no other place like it. Discovered the joys of the shrimp shacks along the north shore, and Matsumoto's Shaved Ice  ;D! Also found out why the tourist guides and books NEVER recommend any tourist attractions along the west shore of Oahu too!

Hey Chris I just got done watching Chris Comier's The Real Deal tape and it shows him winning the overall in the 1993 Mr. USA.  It was wild to see you on that tape.  Your quad sweep is awesome!  John Simmons won the light-heavy weights and is one cool dude.  He is a judge out here in Michigan.  Here is a pic of big John and I at the Natural Northern Michigan's.  Anyway, I don't think you are pushing your DVD I just feel you are proud of it, and you should be.  It is an awesome DVD!!!!

Here is a plug!  It is an awesome DVD.  No maybe they may want to throw me out too..

Musclecenter, I give you props for finding these photos.  Yes, i did alot of personal training sessions while I was out there in Japan.  All the athletes are hungry for knowledge and willing to learn the lifestyle of a natural bodybuilder.  I had a blast!

My offseason nutrition is very strict throughout the year.  I usually binge on a junk meal every Sunday with the family.  Yes, Tim Lee trains at 24 during the weekdays and trains at powerhouse with me on the weekends. I am trying to get him to enter a show but he's not into it.  Oh well. I am so luck to be living in paradise.  Hawaii is so special and so are the people.

Wow, 1993 was an awesome year for the USA down in Santa Monica.  Everyone was there to win and so was I.  I brought the best package I could and thought Chris Cormier, John Simmons and Vinny Galanti was awesome in the posedown.  It was an honor to stand on stage and battle it out with them.  Can you believe that was 15 years ago and i am still at it.

Chris,

Hope all is well.  Love the DVD bro.  I have kinda a weird question that maybe you can answer.  When I first got into bodybuilding I really didn't care about winning the overall titles because I really never thought it was possible for a smaller guy to win.  Once I realized I could win through being in better condition than the competition I concentrated on being totally shredded for a show.  My question is this-is it kinda intimidating to be backstage with three larger weight classes pumping up?  I know you focus on you and what you need to be doing like pumping up, getting the spray right, etc.  but isn't it only natural to be a little psyched out.  I recently did a show where every guy who weighed in looked like a monster and it kinda messed with me.  I ended up winning the most muscular in that show, that was totally crazy, for sure.  Talk about a change of events.  I was just wondering if you had any tricks to share.  My training partner said if you ever look around and get intimidated look at certain parts like the oblique's or the glute's and hams of the other competitor's and you will see a lot are out of shape and this really did help me relax.  I do focus on me and I am full of concentration and not just looking all around but I think it is only human to be a little in awe of the other weight classes.  Thanks a lot.  I am a big fan and supporter of you and your family Joe Leahy..

Like you said it is only human to look and be in awe with your competition back stage.  I am always looking at others that I will be on stage with and try to convince myself that I am better then all of them.  I try to play my own game by focusing in on what i need to do and stay calm before hitting the stage.  Everyone goes through this so don't be alarmed.  Stay focus, get a good pump, oil down properly and pose, pose, pose......Overall baby!!!

Thank you Chris.  I admire your courage to be honest.  I hope someday to meet you and have you put me threw a workout.  Man, I love peanut butter too when I am dieting.  I could feel your hunger in that DVD, crazy....  I have to have my two scoops and get away and fast.  One day I had a new jar at work I had two scoops and keep staring at it on my shelve.  I finally just threw it in a huge dumpster.  Three hours later I was back at the store for my two scoops.  I must admit after that It went in the same dumpster.  A waste yes!  Totally, but the five dollars was worth the win....

Chris, I was just curious have you ever had any elbow or tendinitis problems?  If you have what supplements do (did) you take to heal the problem?  What was the worst injury or scare you have had in gym in terms of soreness or pulls?  I am just curious as I get older my joints are really starting to bother me.  I keep my reps up now and have lightened up the weight a bit but I miss moves like skull crushers etc.  Thanks.  I know in the DVD you explain a few supplements.  Do they change off-season to pre-contest?  King Kamali has helped me in this area with the addition of Udo's Oil and it has helped a little.  Thanks Chris.  Joe Leahy of www.ironjoeleahy.com.

Joe, at my young age of 42 and with 28 years of pounding the iron you can bet that my joints are screaming with every set, just part of the game my friend.  I've been fortunate to not have any serious injuries that would hold me back from doing any movements but I do everything possible to stay injury free. I use Joint fuel by Twinlab everyday and I wear protective sleeves on my elbows and knees when training. I also ice my joints down for 20 minutes when I get home from the gym and make sure to warm up before all training sessions. Good luck.

Chris,

Hello, I hope all is well with you and your wife!  I also hope training is going well for you.  My questions is this Chris, I am currently back in full swing at the gym and getting ready for the nationals in 2009.  My triceps surgery was a success and I am finally back to training at almost 100 percent.  I can do 20 reps on triceps pressdowns with 100 pounds and feel no pain what so ever and the pump feels fantastic!  The problem is on chest day and chest day only.  I can do incline dumbell presses, flat and inclind flyes, machines and cable cross overs pain free but I CANT FLAT BENCH AT ALL OR EVEN DO PUSH UPS!  It is amazing to me that I can hit 100 pound dumbells on the incline for 10 reps with perfect form but it kills me to bench 135 for 10 reps.  My question is should I just scrap the flat benching all together or should I just slowly and surely make my way back.  To be honest I miss the movement even though it was never one of my strong points.  Sometimes I just miss benching.  Thanks Chris any advice is truly appreciated..

Do you have a good re-hab benching formula u give clients?  I would love to know the sets, reps, etc....  Thanks again so much.  www.ironjoeleahy.com

Congrats on your fast recovery and setting your 09' goal for the nationals.  I am interested to see how you're gonna look after what seems to be a major setback.  Give it all you got and don't hold back, train smart.  What do i mean by train smart?  Well, to answer your question about flat benching- why would you want to do this movement when it obviously hurts you?  Scrap the movement and do what 's been working for you.  To make you feel a little better benching is totally out of my chest routine.  Never found it to be productive and haven't done it for years.  You've got success working with dumbbells so I would stick with that.  Good luck and win!

Chris,

I also used to enjoy a lot of volume training in the past where I would train sometimes for a week on followed by one off.  Today I am hitting a two on one off schedule.  This is very difficult for me to follow but my chest and arms are actually improving even though I was injured.  At this point I am proud to say you would never even know I was hurt.  I tore my triceps in the middle of the heads down by the top of the elbow so the horseshoe is still in tact.  Needless to say I was very luckey my friend.  I am trying to be smart and do what is best for my body.  Which I guess for the time being is more rest.  Did you have to change your split as you got older?  What are some of the major changes you made in your career?  Scrapping the flat benching is interesting anything else?  I love your DVD bro.  Have to be honest watching you do chin ups is frustrating for me as I will add them back to my routine in a few weeks.  Didn't you flat bench in your DVD, maybe I am wrong gonna watch it again today to check :)..  I usually watch the tape a few times a week for inspiration.  Peace.  You ordering the sushi is still the funniest part for me though, LOL.. ;D

P.S. Thanks again so much for your time....

Big Joe, Training smart is the key to getting ahead in this game.  Injuries as you know will set you back big time.  I would suggest changing workout routines, rep tempo, massages, rest.....everything possible for you to stay ahead of your competition and pushing the envelope everyday in the gym.  focus in on your goals and don't let anything distract you from achieving them.  Nationals Baby!

Thanks Chris!  U the man!  Hope to have ya train me someday while I am on vacation.  Sound like a fun trip to me.  Ya, its kinda weird how I know a lot about bodybuilding but I also have so much to learn.  I guess it can be easy to over think this thing.  I'm just glad I have had a chance to learn from the best.  Thanks again as always it has been a pleasue learning and growing as a bodybuilder and person.  I will be in Vegas in 2009 and I know I will give them hell and have the time of my life.  Win, loose or draw I'm gonna enjoy being on that stage.  If I don't belong I could give a crap (and I am serious.)  I'm gonna smile and enjoy my moment under the lights.  It has been a fun ride for me so far and I intend to keep it that way.  I just love the gym and the sounds of the iron!  It truly is who I am.  God bless and like you say train smart and let nothing hold you back!!!!!  Peace...

Chris' video is the best! AWESOME! Very long but well worth it. He discusses his diet in great detail and you get to see him perform each bodypart and also cardio training. He drinks coffee from Starbucks and takes you to a barbeque @ his parent's house...... he really seems like a great guy and loves to help people achieve their physical goals. excellent video, Chris........ A+...... a must have for every hardcore bodybuilder!

Chris, what i like about your vids is that in addition to high quality muscle you bring serious intensity to the workouts. Which i think explains the results. Intensity that i have always practiced, but that i don't see that often with other BB vids that i find a little disappointing. I think you know what i mean-most of them do not seem to be pushing the envelope and to me that's leaving potential on the table and just wouldn't be satisfying. I'm your age actually a little older, and don't feel that the intensity has to go down if the spirit's there, which for some is there for life!

I have been training with that type of intensity for 27years. That's the only way I know how to train.  If I don't have it on any given day I will walk out of the session- that rarely happens.  This is my hobby, job, career- I love working out and getting crazy! No shows this year but will be guest posing all over including Japan in July with Musclecenter.

I always get off my diet on Sundays for a great meal.  If its contest time....No cheats on Sundays.  I am looking forward to another guest appearance in Japan.  Asian genetics- I don't think so, just lots and lots of hard work in and out of the gym.  I've been bodybuilding for over 26 years, I better have an average physique. lol

CHRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did it my friend! I made my comback and took straight first place votes to win my first N.P.C Heavyweight title.  I also re-qualified for the nationals.  It was a long and tough road working threw the tri-cep injury but in the end I gained seven pounds of muscle at 36 years young.  I also was in better condition.  Thanks so much for all your help and support.  I have the State Championships on Saturday, wish me luck I need some.  Your video was awesome during cardio!!!!!!!!!!!

I am always training for that one day to make my pro debut.  I don't have any shows plan because I feel I need to pack on more quality muscle to stand on stage with the big boys.  It's a different ball game in the pro ranks...
I think 2lbs- 3 lbs of muscle gain per year is realistic.  Even that is very hard to do being for a natural bb'er.

Hey Chris just finished watching your video again - it's awesome. In the video, you seemed to keep your carb intake fairly consistent from day to day (maybe a slight difference from workout vs. off days). However, what do you think about carb cycling for fat loss? Have you used it in the past? Would you use it again?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Chris!

Congrats on all your success and your Pro Card.

You say that you don't have great genetics. If you could change something, what would you change?

Also, what levels of bodyfat do you maintain year-round? Do you ever let them get up in the double-digits? Do you think it is tougher to build muscle without ever getting too "out of shape?"

One last thing: Do you remember (years ago) when one of the IRONMAN encyclopedia publications posted a pic of a Hispanic bodybuilder and put your name on his pic? Don't get me wrong, he looked Bantamweight and he was SHREDDED to the BONE! I think his name was Hernandes or something. Your pic was side by side with his, but I think you were doing a shot where your face wasn't directly facing the camera- or vice versa. He was one of those guys who had the shred goin on like Hamdullah Aykutluh, ya know, the crazy stuff. One pic was of you, the other of him.

I'll always remember that. Your pic was all over in the publication (with the correct name), but they made that typo. They mentioned that you were natural at that time and that was when I really started paying attention to your progress.

I admit, I'm not "natural"- but don't think for one second that guys like you aren't also an inspiration for juiced bodybuilders.

I wish you continued success in whatever endeavors you will make in the future. There is an older gentleman in my gym that is trying to get back into shape. He say's he used to see you everyday at his gym in Hawaii (again, years ago)  ;D  He speaks very highly of you.

Be cool mang! Thanks.

Hey Ving, my carb intake stays the same everyday throughout my entire contest diet.  I am lucky to have a very fast metabolism that will allow me to do that without carb cycling which I did in the past.  I rather not use it again as it would flatten me out and make me shrink.  My body works well with carbs and I make sure not to overdue it.

If I could change one thing with my genetics it would probably be having a better clavicle bone structure.  Having narrow shoulders is a bodybuilders worst nightmare.  My bodyfat is never a problem for me as I eat fairly clean everyday.  I am not into the bulking up system and it makes it that muych easier when its time to diet down for a guest appearance or show.
