Title: I want to Dl 660lbs !! How?
Post by: PRO Chemical on August 12, 2008, 03:05:13 PM
OK here's the deal.

I only have one goal and thats a 660 lbs (300kg) Deadlift.

I don't care how much I bench or how big my guns are... i want a 660 lbs dl!!

My 1 RM is 400 now. Ather 9 months of training and with a hand injury.

My question.

What is the best way to train for max dl results?

How many days, frequency, which exercises, which program.....

I'm natural btw.. and want to stay that way.

Thx for the advise

while im sure most guys on here will give you better advice than me seeing as im not a powerlifter ill give you some advice.

I would only do them once a week, i do 3 work sets maybe 4 and usually start at 12-8-5 and maybe a set of 2 or 3 reps wise. I think most here would tell you to cut out the set of 12 reps or not go that high.

Also good mornings, Stiff legged dead lifts will help as well squats as well especially if your taller i would think...on seperate days

Rack pulls will help as well, if i were you i might do deads from the floor till you hit a plateau and then switch to rack pulls till you hit a plateau and then back to deads and so on. just a thought i usually see good results wth this on bench switching from incline to flat.

hope that helps, good luck let us know how you progress

how much do you weigh?

to get from 400 to 660 will take you 4-5 years of consistent training, like was mentioned earlier, eat and gain weight, you ain't gonna pull 660 weighing under 200 pounds that's for damn sure, you won't get anywhere eating like a bitch and worrying about "getting fat".

Exactly.  Getting to 400 doesn't take that much effort really, as long as you weigh at least 200 lbs, but, like the bench and squat, there comes a point where it may take you a year just to jump 30 lbs.
Title: Re: I want to Dl 660lbs !! How?

depends on how hard it is to hit that 400. i started lifting in the summer of 2002. in 2005 i first deadlifted 405 for two bounced reps. just last month i pulled 515. like all other lifts, your gains start to get logarithmic, you won't gain 40 pounds on the lift every year. look at olympic sprinters. adding .001 seconds takes incredible amounts of effort.

660 is a lofty deadlift goal for a natty, but doable. just don't do what i do and get greedy every week trying to max out. that leads to injury and burning out.  :-\

yep, i don't think a lot of people realize how damn heavy 660 is, it's a cunnnt hair away from 7 plates on each side of the bar, that's a big deadlift for almost anyone juiced or not.

I think it's pretty normal for most kids that start pulling some weight off the floor to imagine themselves picking up 14 plates someday......

especially when they're typing on the internet

well fuck, i'm a 300+ lb powerlifter who's been in the weightroom for almost 18 years.  I promise you, I'm going to be real damned happy the day I pull 660 in a meet.

but on the internet, remember, if you aren't benching 315 within three years, squatting over 4 plates and pulling six, then apparently you're slacking. ::)

you'll get guys that lifted their whole lives that never get up to 660 on the pull. shit if i can get six plates before i turn 24 i'll be ecstatic.

you can do 500 for 10 already, don't you think you can get 660 for one?

not hard to get.. took me almost two years to go from 500 to 675-680.

pretty much start training westside... LOVE to pull.. and eat your face off. IT's doable as a natty but you've got to be built to pull and have the DRIVE to have big pulls.

a good indicator.. if you can pull 635 3 times... you're probably good for 660. until then.. keep plugging away. Find exercise that work for you just like benching and have at it. I do alot of heavy rack pulls, pulls against bands, deficiet(sp) pulls, and reverse band pulls. Fidn out what your weak points are and attack them! unless you temper the weaker links in the chain..they'll always be just htat.. the weak links

yeah jason is a mind fuck HAHAHA.. i'd say pull 500 for a single, 585, then 660 and he'd have it no problem!

i'm still stuck at 675 but now am hopefully at a gym that will help me push past it with the right equipment.

I never bothered a whole lot with bands aside from here-and-there workouts with a couple buddies who use them. I stuck mostly with a shit ton of rack pulls from various positions and static holds for anywhere from 10 to 90 secs, depending on the weight.  Also avoided the temptation to use straps, and just tried to gut it out with a lot of patience until my grip could catch up with everything else (though, as is it the case with pretty much every other human being, the grip never quite catches up).

Looking back, I wish I had been "smarter" and more "scientific" (i.e., using a WSB template or hybrid thereof), instead of relying on brute strength, trying to imitate the great Paul Anderson, Hepburn and others in their relative "simplicity."
Title: Re: I want to Dl 660lbs !! How?
Post by: MisterMagoo on August 14, 2008, 12:01:23 PM
i definitely need to incorporate some static holds. my lower back aches like crazy these days when i do rack pulls, so methinks i need better work at that top end of the pull.
Title: Re: I want to Dl 660lbs !! How?

i tend to hold my heavier deads at full lockouts for 30 seconds to get my hands used to it..

and at this point.. i have no feeling in my hands at all.

years are archery gave me some minor nerve damage since I shoot traditionally with a glove or tab out of longbows and recurves... heavy strapless deads have pretty much seen to finishing off my hands. LOL

Drug free?

Eat your way up to 300 pounds.

Train similar to Westside consistantly for 10 years.

Lots of bands/chains, low pulls standing on blocks and rack pulls..try not to get hurt.

Take your time, i know juicers who have been chasing your goal for 10 years. it is not as easy as you think, but some people are just fucking strong at dead lifting.

i have seen 185 pound guys pull 600, but they weren't natural and had been training for 15+ years.

Good luck.

if you hit a 660 pound pull weighing under 240 less than two years into your training and no drug help, that legitimately places you within the top 0.001% of lifters. ride that train to the end of the rails, my main, do a drug tested meet and set yourself in Da Books.

Eat, yes, but dont get carried away. I went a little too far and it really killed my DL. I could hit 545 at 225bw but when I got to 300lbs it was only 20lbs higher and destroyed my back everytime.

Listen to these guys, it takes years.

One of the guys I train with is like that.  I've seen him pull 600+ relatively easy.  The only bad thing is he's managed to fuck both knees up pretty badly through the years and he can't squat for shit.  I think the most I've ever seen him squat is 405 x 1.

lol. Thanks man. My bench fucking SUCKS though. Along with the deadlift I would like a 500lb squat, which I think is achievable at the worlds and I would be overjoyed if I managed a 350lb bench this year, but I'll admit that's unlikely.

Youve got those fucking LONG arms that all great deadlifters possess.  Also, except for a few, you wont find an outstanding deadlifter who also has an outstanding bench press.  Keep plugging away, and maximize it though!

Thanks man. Yeh, I'm working my ass off on my bench. I don't ever intend to give up on it.

My arms aren't exceptionally long, though they're not short either!  ;D Unlike a lot of guys, I'm not the type you'd look at and immediately think, fuck he has long arms. lol

On the freaks with a big pull and press, Lamar Grant also had a pretty decent bench despite his freak-like deadlift?
