6th place was and is an absolute joke. My God I can't tell you people how many people (My peers, expeditor's, pro figure girls, the MC, fans, and my fellow competitors came up to me and said this was just a fucking joke. Even some (a couple MD writers, FLEX writer, and a certain GURU) said that it was the wrong decision. I have two favorite parts of last night, one was when all the top 15 men finished their posing routines I was approached by the head expediter and was told: "to stick around because I was in the top 5"... So I did. And then 30 minutes later I was approached by the same guy and was told: "sorry King, I was wrong you did not make the top 5"?!?! What?? Are you fucking kidding me. Who gets the first call out and crushes and then does not make the top 5? Second was when I walked back to the dressing room (as EVERYONE was congratulating me and telling me to kick ass during the posedown) and I started putting my cloths back on and Darrem, Tracy Greenwood, Will Harris, JJ, and a couple of the Spanish IFBB competitors were looking at me like I had 6 heads and asked me why I'm getting dressed. I looked at them with a smile and said I did not make the top 5... OMG the looks on their faces I will never forget. NO ONE said a word and just looked at me in disbelief. I got dressed and as I was walking out Craig Richardson grabs me and says what the fuck am I doing, I have to be back on stage in a few minutes... Then like a lightning bolt he looks at me with that same crazy look and says: "you have got to be kidding me?"........................ .................. Folks, that was the cherry on top of the cake. Forget about the countless fans that were looking at me with confusion as I walked through the audience to find my family so I could get the fuck out of there. People, let's put the bullshit aside, let's put the ass kissing aside and let's stay real here. Did I deserve the win, no. Did I have myself 2nd, no. Did I have myself in the top 4, HELL YES! Jim was in utter and total shock and it took my father and brother in law to calm him down. All that work and suffering to get fucked like this. I will have ALOT MORE TO SAY in my MuscleMag column and my website and in interviews, believe me God I will not let this one go without a good old street fight, but, can we all say: HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! I ROCKED THE HOUSE AND THEY CAN NEVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME! Here are some pics from MD Online and Flexonline... Enjoy!

King looked fantastic, i know it isn't politically correct but i think a lot of black competitors get placings because judges automatically think they have "prettier" and "more shapely" physiques, fact is King destroyed a few of those top 5 guys on width, size and condition, appeared to be one of the only guys really shredded from the back, the only pose that it looks like he lost is the front double biceps which just isn't a great pose for him but everything else looked fantastic, both King and Marcos got screwed royally.

King's upper body was great but his legs and calves was not. Im sorry to tell that but u deserve you place.
The things that make me angry is Craig Richardson full of Synthol WTF think the judge and Will harris Why did he come to that show, shame on him to come with that body.

King you were robbed, just like you were at the '03 night of champions!!! Fuck it, put it behind you and go get the win next year!!!! You shut a lot of haters up this time around, and people were left speechless, you should be damn proud of that! There were a lot of people who doubted you over at the other boards (even at this), and I think you proved every single one of them wrong. Your conditioning was unreal and you didn't sacrafice any of that freaky size which you are known for. Top 4 material for sure! Its a shame we won't see you at the Olympia stage this year!
Shit happens! I'm sure you've been in the industry long enough to know that! Nothing you can do but to come in even bigger, leaner, and better next year, till you finally give the judges what they want, and fight through the politics!

You looked a lot better than in the past, but a spade is a spade. Your calves are very small and your legs are smooth compared to the other competitors. Your upper body looked good except the biceps. The peaks are small and they insert too high. You deserved what you got. I'm not being a dick, but just being real as you like to say. Still a vast improvement. You can take this as a launching pad and improve from here. You should be proud of what you've accomplished and either look at it positively and move forward to a better placement or lament about it and say you were robbed, etc

There were only 4 names in the entire lineup...and King got 6th. I know this is the positive board, and I do not mean to bash...but a bit of a reality check is in order.
If you think King was top 4 material at this show, which one of these superior bodybuilders would you have demoted to 5th place?

Agreed. Best look in a while, but its not just about bringing in a full hard physique. Structural flaws cost King. Bis and tris, and quad sweep. I won't mention calves because no one in this show has them.

I am not a professional judge and pictures really don't mean that much to me because being at the show is what would really tell the story but what bothers me about the pictures of the first callout is that the competitors have to fight for space to hit there poses. Give them room. Example, Melvin is in front of king on a lot of the poses and king is being blocked out a little, hell, a lot. What is this an overall posedown? No, it isn't.
When I did the Mr. Michigan a few years back a kid kept blocking me on the quarter turns and I told him nicely, "bro this isn't the posedown quit bumping me." The kid kept at it so I gave him a bump back until the head judge finally saw what was going on and spaced us properly. These guys on stage are pros and they are large as hell all I ask and all they ask is give them the space they need to hit the pose properly. Yes, they may be out there a little longer and have to work harder but shit give them there time. Now if this was for the overall well this is gonna happen and you have to remind the competitors to keep there space until the music man plays. I do know that some competitors try to get close to show there strenghts but to be blocked is wrong. Until the posedown how can you compare them when you cant see them.
Also, if king was to bump Melvin to get in front them he looks cocky so he was in a shitty situation. I know several years back he bumped a fellow pro and people didn't like it. I personally thought that was the shit. King is a fighter and I am sure he knew he was being blocked a little bit and took the higher road and let it go but I am also sure if he knew he was gonna take six place he would have took a half step forward and moved in front of melvin. The pics are good but don't they dont tell the whole story all I know is king wears his heart on his sleeve and gave it 110 percent and I know it doesn't help or matter know but his courage is to be admired. (if you are a competitor this goes without saying) He is a great warrior in my eyes. Joe Leahy.

King's best shot is the RLS, he looks great in that pose. However, that's the only pose he wins IMO.

I actually hate comparing like this cause it is nothing personal at all. I like Darrem and Johnny, they are really good guys and always come up and chat with me. This is nothing more than judging them based on what they brought to the show.

Then all of the sudden they start comparing Johhny to the top 3 ? (who was in the first callout) Freeman had been cleaning up at shows as of late and even though I thought him as not being in as good of shape in the weeks before he still looked pretty good. I didn't have Darrem beating him in the Masters, BUT (and this is a big but) if Freeman had beatin Darrem then Darrem would not have qualified for the Olympia in the open. It would have been Freeman 3rd and Darrem 4th. So the top 3 were guys who up to this show needed to qualify for the Olympia and did on this occasion and coincidentley all of them Muscletech guys.

Just a comparison. I got these off of MD this is the only other show that they had of King so that is why I used the Ironman. I think the improvements are a little more apparent when seeing the two shows in similar poses.

NOt sure if they would have extended it to 4th place. Yes Richardson looks great. Needs more detail from the rear, but that is diet and wouldn't hurt to have a little more back mass although if leaner would look bigger anyway.

HE had a polish that no one else had I attribute that to 2 things. I did NOT use any type of diuretic or cut his water and the magic powder as King likes to call it. ;D
I realize King still has some weaknesses of course he does. 14 weeks is a long time, but not that long. He needs more quad sweep for one and I bitched him out after the prejudging for forgetting to flex his thighs at times. I lost my voice at the prejudging I was yelling at him so loud. His calves need work too, but they were no worse than a lot of the guys in the top 5 either.

The calves do need to be bigger, but it seems most bber's these days lack calves so I can't see him losing to anyone for that. I can agree and there are ways to make these improvements and that will be done! and no not synthol or I would have just slammed it in there for this show. ;D Take a look at the comparison pics and be honest. Would some of these guys be able to currently win the Nationals?

Okay guys. I see what's happening here and I understand why. This is a subjective sport and only 1 percent of the 1 percent got a chance to be there in person to see the competition live and in the flesh. Going by pictures is what most if not all are going by and that's just the way its been from day one. Everyone has their opinions (his calves are small, he needs more back size, the other guy was harder, etc....) and that's just the nature of the sport, but, you guys are missing the point. The winner, Melvin has no calves, a smooth ass and hams, a weak lat spread, etc.. and Darrem has no hams, soft from the back, too small, etc... do you see my point? it's subjective, I could go on and on about every bodybuilder on that stage. Judging bodybuilding contests has many, many dimensions and once you put all these factors into place you have a winner. I had 6 or 7 family members in the audience so it's not like there were 100+ people cheering section for me. When I came out for the first time on Saturday the place went crazy with an amazing pulse and energy. Every pose I hit the energy just kept building and building until people were on their feet and pumping their fists. it was an amazing moment and I will Cherish it for a very long time. I am honest with my critique of myself and from the pictures and the comparisons I participated in I should be either 3rd or 4th in the 2008 AC Pro.. THIS IS MY OPINION. I'm sure there are many of you who still believe from the bottom of your hearts that Cutler was the deserving winner of the Olympia last year but I'm also just as sure that many of you had Victor winning... It goes on and on. Let's just look at the facts, I was much improved, in fantastic condition, polished and very crisp on stage, had one of if not the best 90 second routine there, my posing routine was one of if not the best in show, the obvious crowd favorite, got the first call out, and earned the respect of a lot of haters. I did my job and I did it well. 6th place is a non factor and I mean that. My inbox is over loaded with fan mail and my phone has been blowing up non stop since Saturday night... What does all this mean? It means I must have done something special. I had a great time and achieved a look that no one thought possible without using insulin and diuretics. Remember folks, this is suppose to be fun and the day it's not, will be time to take up golf. Jim is a true master of the science of bodybuilding and my best friend.. Thanks to Jim and the rest of you for all your support...

Melvin beat you and others because of his symmetry and balance. It was by far the best in the show. He could have showed up in worse shape and still won easily. He has outstanding genetics, small joints, round muscle bellies, small waist, etc.
There's no question you were in good shape, but your structure, and genetics are not at a level to compete with the top tier guys anymore.

In my opinion and many many others I crush Melvin in this pose.. Again, it's an opinion. Marcus Ruhl has arms that are 2.5 inches bigger than Melvin and have over all better shape to the muscle.. Does that make him better? Done.
brudge: Melvin does have amazing shape and symmetry and he did show up at the AC Pro last year in "worse" condition and got his ass handed to him by many people. He also showed up at the AC this year in "worse" shape and also got beat by a lot of people.. So you are wrong and I just proved it. My structure just beat alot of great bodybuilders and if you look at the score sheet I was ahead of some of the people that placed ahead of me.. So you have been proven wrong again. David Henry who is an IFBB champion has all the attributes you mentioned and I beat him at the Ironman Pro at my "worse".. So once again you are wrong. 2 years a go at Montreal I beat Dennis Wolf and he is top tier... so once again you are wrong.. end of lesson.

Melvin is the most overrated pro on the scene, i've said that for years, he is small, soft and narrow without absolutely nothing standing out like a very small Cormier, King destroyed him at this show on size, width and condition, King and Marcos got ripped off so bad they should file a report.

But they have something that ONLY gifted bodybuilders have...SHAPE and SUPERIOR GENETICS. There isn't a "guru" that can overcome genetic shortcomings of a bodybuiler. You are destroying your health for absolutely nothing. With your structure, at this point, the odds of you finishing top 3 in any show is unlikely. BTW, there were only 4 names in the show and you finished 6th. The world is not against you King...it's just the genetic hand you've been dealt. BTW, I admire your drive. If you focus it elsewhere you will be a tremendous success. Not a bash...just my opinion.

Melvin did deserve to beat you, but I'm sure you would agree with that in this case. Could you have beat him and have you beat him in the past...absolutely, but this show he did deserve to win.

You are unfortunately not at the level of any of the pros competing in this years olympia. To me you looked your best in 94 in that most muscular shot with you wearing the winter hat. That is the best king picture out there in my opinion. I would love to look like that. You know the pic i'm talking about?

Melvin won...that means nobody beat him...even with him holding water. Dennis Wolf is nowhere near the same bodybuilder he was 2 years ago. I'll give you David Henry though, he is a tough guy to judge when standing next to one of the taller bigger guys. He's got a great build but his height and size makes him tough to judge.

Now that sounds positive. That's good to hear. I just hate hearing people bitch about placings. Everyone that didn't win will usually be upset about not placing higher and think that they should have. That is normal. It just makes no sense to complain about it. You looked much improved...sick condition (probably the best in the show). I'm glad to hear you had a great time and now its time to move on and work on the next goal for yourself. I like the positive King, not the one that feels like he's always got something to prove.

i wouldn't call it being disrespectful to Melvin at all to say King should have placed higher, look Melvin is a very good bodybuilder but he's very overrated IMO, he's got a soft cookie cutter physique with the only standout thing being a small waist.

Look guys, the bottomline is that King improved drastically from his Ironman showing earlier this year. I say congrats to King and he should be happy with his placing. I hope he continues to improve. I also think Disgusted is a good guy and did a great job with King, hopefully they keep working together.

6th place was and is an absolute joke. My God I can't tell you people how many people (My peers, expeditor's, pro figure girls, the MC, fans, and my fellow competitors came up to me and said this was just a fucking joke. Even some (a couple MD writers, FLEX writer, and a certain GURU) said that it was the wrong decision. I have two favorite parts of last night, one was when all the top 15 men finished their posing routines I was approached by the head expediter and was told: "to stick around because I was in the top 5"... So I did. And then 30 minutes later I was approached by the same guy and was told: "sorry King, I was wrong you did not make the top 5"?!?! What?? Are you fucking kidding me. Who gets the first call out and crushes and then does not make the top 5? Second was when I walked back to the dressing room (as EVERYONE was congratulating me and telling me to kick ass during the posedown) and I started putting my cloths back on and Darrem, Tracy Greenwood, Will Harris, JJ, and a couple of the Spanish IFBB competitors were looking at me like I had 6 heads and asked me why I'm getting dressed. I looked at them with a smile and said I did not make the top 5... OMG the looks on their faces I will never forget. NO ONE said a word and just looked at me in disbelief. I got dressed and as I was walking out Craig Richardson grabs me and says what the fuck am I doing, I have to be back on stage in a few minutes... Then like a lightning bolt he looks at me with that same crazy look and says: "you have got to be kidding me?"........................ .................. Folks, that was the cherry on top of the cake. Forget about the countless fans that were looking at me with confusion as I walked through the audience to find my family so I could get the fuck out of there. People, let's put the bullshit aside, let's put the ass kissing aside and let's stay real here. Did I deserve the win, no. Did I have myself 2nd, no. Did I have myself in the top 4, HELL YES! Jim was in utter and total shock and it took my father and brother in law to calm him down. All that work and suffering to get fucked like this. I will have ALOT MORE TO SAY in my MuscleMag column and my website and in interviews, believe me God I will not let this one go without a good old street fight, but, can we all say: HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for coming in late on the thread, but I'd like to give my two cents. I was at the show and saw firsthand how everyone looked. King had Joel beat, period. I even talked to some other people at the show who said they had King placing as high as 4th. The point is, I was there and saw how King looked compared to Joel. I have to say, Joel has a great physique for a taller competitor, but his legs are just awful. I understand he had an injury, but the legs comprise a large portion of one's physique. King's legs looked simply spectacular. His quads were just ripped with crazy separation and size. Joel DOES in fact have a great upper body, but let's analyze for a bit. Honestly, his arms are nothing great, they almost look kind of soft. His back is just ridiculous, no lying here. His hams and glutes are good, King's were better though. His abs look bad in my opinion. Being at the show and seeing King flex his abs was crazy. When he tensed up, his waistline disappeared. Much better than Joel's. On to shoulder's--Joel has some great shoulders, but King's are also among the best in the business.
I don't know, just putting this altogether makes me feel King got robbed of at least 5th place. And this is just one analysis of King vs. competitor A. I really don't want to get into the rest cuz it seems to be BS. How did Dareem beat Tony Freeman? That's rather convenient for MuscleTech. Talk about corruption.

I think King has definately improved since 2001, he has all the bodyparts, and the conditioning on him kills a lot of other competitors but the basic truth is that if two guys are a similar size and hardness the guy with the better structure will win.
So his size, hardness and lack of weak bodyparts will always knock a lot of guys off but not the guys who can match or beat him in those areas and have a better structure.

Okay guys. I see what's happening here and I understand why. This is a subjective sport and only 1 percent of the 1 percent got a chance to be there in person to see the competition live and in the flesh. Going by pictures is what most if not all are going by and that's just the way its been from day one. Everyone has their opinions (his calves are small, he needs more back size, the other guy was harder, etc....) and that's just the nature of the sport, but, you guys are missing the point. Judging bodybuilding contests has many, many dimensions and once you put all these factors into place you have a winner. I had 6 or 7 family members in the audience so it's not like there were 100+ people cheering section for me. When I came out for the first time on Saturday the place went crazy with an amazing pulse and energy. Every pose I hit the energy just kept building and building until people were on their feet and pumping their fists. it was an amazing moment and I will Cherish it for a very long time. I am honest with my critique of myself and from the pictures and the comparisons I participated in I should be either 3rd or 4th in the 2008 AC Pro.. THIS IS MY OPINION. I'm sure there are many of you who still believe from the bottom of your hearts that Cutler was the deserving winner of the Olympia last year but I'm also just as sure that many of you had Victor winning... It goes on and on. Let's just look at the facts, I was much improved, in fantastic condition, polished and very crisp on stage, had one of if not the best 90 second routine there, my posing routine was one of if not the best in show, the obvious crowd favorite, got the first call out, and earned the respect of a lot of haters. I did my job and I did it well. 6th place is a non factor and I mean that. My inbox is over loaded with fan mail and my phone has been blowing up non stop since Saturday night... What does all this mean? It means I must have done something special. I had a great time and achieved a look that no one thought possible without using insulin and diuretics. Remember folks, this is suppose to be fun and the day it's not, will be time to take up golf. Jim is a true master of the science of bodybuilding and my best friend.. Thanks to Jim and the rest of you for all your support...

Second was when I walked back to the dressing room (as EVERYONE was congratulating me and telling me to kick ass during the posedown) and I started putting my cloths back on and Darrem, Tracy Greenwood, Will Harris, JJ, and a couple of the Spanish IFBB competitors were looking at me like I had 6 heads and asked me why I'm getting dressed. I looked at them with a smile and said I did not make the top 5... OMG the looks on their faces I will never forget. NO ONE said a word and just looked at me in disbelief. I got dressed and as I was walking out Craig Richardson grabs me and says what the fuck am I doing, I have to be back on stage in a few minutes... Then like a lightning bolt he looks at me with that same crazy look and says: "you have got to be kidding me?"........................ .................. Folks, that was the cherry on top of the cake. Forget about the countless fans that were looking at me with confusion as I walked through the audience to find my family so I could get the fuck out of there. People, let's put the bullshit aside, let's put the ass kissing aside and let's stay real here. Did I deserve the win, no. Did I have myself 2nd, no. Did I have myself in the top 4, HELL YES! Jim was in utter and total shock and it took my father and brother in law to calm him down. All that work and suffering to get fucked like this. I will have ALOT MORE TO SAY in my MuscleMag column and my website and in interviews, believe me God I will not let this one go without a good old street fight, but, can we all say: HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! To be honest; you were definately at your best. Better than I've ever seen you in terms of size and conditioning though not aesthetics. No one can deny that you improved on your previous showings and so I have to take my hat off and say congrats and you're obviously on the right track with regards to improving on your placings by presenting a better package. ;)
