Not sure on the details I'm sure you can find the story online.

Mike Tyson got his ass beaten before as well. Whats your point?

My point is he should have thrown the super kick.

I didn't mean to sound like a dick if I did? I just think out of all the finishers in the history of wrestling. There are very few that can be applied in a real life situation. My opinion is that unless your trained in self defense? Shawn Michaels would be able to do this to you, hard, if you pissed him off.
I believe he got lippy with several marines in a bar and they whooped his ass pretty good, X-pac and someone else was there, they were held back by some of the marines friends.

Was that when he came on TV with his face beaten up and was crying about loosing his smile? I would imagine he always stirred alot of shit  everywhere he went? It's as clear as day. The guys a "Grade A" jerkoff. Just listen to his theme.

But I do think he's one of the top five greatest wrestlers EVER!

Quote
Shawn Michaels, Sean Waltman (X-Pac), and Davey Boy Smith, the British Bulldog were at a Syracuse night club in New York. In the parking lot, nine men approached them if I am not mistaken, some words were said, then Shawn Michaels got the crap beaten out of him while, Bulldog and Waltman were both held back.

Quote
On October 13th, 1995, Shawn Michaels was parked in a car outside of a bar with Davey Boy Smith and the 1-2-3 Kid in Syracuse, NY. Shawn Michaels was attacked by a group of military personnel that left him bruised and beaten. Shortly after the attack, the WWF held an "In Your House" pay per view where Shawn "forfeited" the Intercontinental Championship to Shane "Dean" Douglas. Even though he was legitimately hurt, and would not return to active competition until a house show six man tag team match on November 5th, this is the point in time where people started to notice that Shawn had a knack of doing jobs. Whether this was real, or just coincidental.

I can remember when that happened. I couldn't believe it! It was so shocking. No one would have ever imagined how big Shawn Michaels was going to become. He's #2 though in my book for suprise success's. #1 has got to go to this clown;

When did HBK become so cross eyed? Really liked last Fridays Smackdown and tonight on Raw. Not to sound Gay but I like the dancing around stripper Shawn 1000000 times better then the Religious Shawn. These past two showings with him and Undertaker he seems more like old School HBK. Too bad he's gonna loose at Mania. Gonna be the best match of the night though. Anybody know whats up with his crook eyes?
Taker knocked em loopy?

Back in the nineties, Michaels was a cocky SOB. He was in a bar with X-pac (lol, little x-pac) and shooting off his mouth trying to hit on some guys girlfriend. The guy got pissed and he and his buddies jumped Michael's and beet the piss out of him.

I know it's sinful to write this. But in the retirement match against Flair. Shawn threw some pretty mean kicks. It's pretty amazing that out of all the finishers Shawn has had. That his Super Kick has evolved into Sweet Chin Music. Seeing Shawn Michaels as a Rocker? He's got to be the biggest rags to riches story Wrestling has ever seen. I'm sounding old here. But to all the youngster out there. You have no idea what this guy has accomplished.
Agreed. He really did pay his dues.

I have been watching the Undertaker discs and have been really enjoying them. The In Your House then Hell in the Cell matches with HBK are awesome! In my opinion they're both spectacular. They did great this Mania but not like the other two previous encounters. Really hope these guys have one more solid fued before they both retire.

I agree with you. I have that dvd as well. I love the Hell in the Cell he had with Brock Lesner when he had his biker gimmick. What a match.

He was bleeding so bad in that match. It was such an exciting match with a really thrilling finish.
I wasn't expecting Lesner to win clean in that match. Taker must have had a great deal of respect for Lesner to have him win clean like that. Taker has incredible pull behind the curtain and is considered McMahon's security if something / someone get out of line back stage.

HBK vs. Mankind at the first in your house ppv was one of the best matches I have ever seen.

That match was awesome. HBK has been in the best matches I've ever seen. The guy is so consistantly great. I liked his matches against the Undertaker though. He really took a beating at both In Your House and Hell in a Cell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9O6YzXCM0g
HBK is probably the best all round performer. He is a main eventer (especially in his heyday), he takes crazy bumps, puts on a great show and is good on the mic. My favorite matches with him include:

HBK vs Bret Hart (iron man match)
HBK vs Razor Ramon (ladder match)
HBK vs Mankind (in your house ppv)
HBK vs Vader (in your house ppv)
HBK vs British Bulldog (sat nights main event when he won the IC title for the fist time)
HBK vs Chris Jericho (WM match)
HBK vs Undertaker in hell in the cell (Badd blood)
HBK vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WM match)
HBK vs HHH in a streetfight (Summerslam match)
HBK vs Diesel in a streetfight (in your house PPV)

That's all off the top of my head. I'm sure if I actually sat and thought about it I could think of more. He is definately the show stopper, main event, icon.

This is another story doing the rounds:

Source: prowrestling.com

The UK Sun reports that WWE is scrapping the promotions for the "DX Invasion" tour of Europe planned for later this year. This might indicate that WWE doesn't expect Shawn Michaels back before the fall, and would back up some rumors that HBK won't be returning until WrestleMania next year.

Michaels iswas a great entertainer but his time is done. Bad knees and he's also 44 years old. He was at his best prior to his back injury in 1998. The one or two matches he had since his comeback have been good but not great. I was actually watching the casket match he had with the undertaker at Royal Rumble when he landed on the edge of the casket. That looked real painful. It's safe to say he is done.

After seeing Shawn on Raw last night. I have finally accepted the fact that his days are number. I was blinded by emotion. The Boy Toy should hang it up.
HBK is becoming more and more painfull to watch. He should retire after this years WM.

This week did it for me. Apologies for wasting everyones time with my non-sense. It's the final curtain for the Showstoppa. He had possibly the best career ever. Retire and take your well deserved place in the HOF. Hopefully Bret inducts him and then Shawn kicks him in the face just one last time.

Lol...that would be interesting. Although I give Hart the thumbs up when it comes to street fighting. If he had no problem knocking out Vince in 1997, then i'm sure he'd eat Michael's for breakfest. No appoligies necessary there Chef. You are just a die hard fan like the rest of us.

I just watched it. The Hitman will never get over what happened to him in Montreal. No chance. But I don't care what anyone says. No doubt Bret was gonna take the Federation title to WCW and promote himself with it in some way. The plan back fired and HBK did what had to be done. Don't care what he got from VKM to return. Money. His Daddy and Owen inducted into the HOF. The guy is always gonna have Summerslam on his mind because that was the night the Excellence of Execution was absolutely destroyed. No one has ever been owned like that in the history of the show. He's never gonna be able to bury the hatchet on that one. If I was watching that live I would have been going ape sh1t screaming for Shawn to hit Bret with Sweet Chin Music. When he was leaving the ring and he turned around to hug Bret. I wish he kicked him! Bret screwed Bret.
Meltdown.

I hope Undertaker finishes that pathetic old man Micheals for good at this WM.

X2 if it happens. They teased the match but I think something different will happen. I can't see them having a rematch of that caliber and one upping that match again. Royal Rumble is expected to have many surprises.

FYI to everyone. Bret didn't screw Bret and Michaels didn't screw Bret. VKM screwed Bret. He is the boss. He owns the company and he controls the talant and tells them what to do.

::) The infamous PPV was Survivor Series 1997, not Summerslam.

Are you sure about that there, buddy? Last time I checked it was VKM that got knocked unconcious after that event. It was Michaels who put his tail between his legs, lied through his teeth when confronted and said "I don't have any fucking idea!? My hands are clean on this one." When Bret retuned to Raw the ratings were through the roof and the ovation he got was incredible. The fans booed the shit out of Micheals and started chastisising him. Lastly it was Bret & Shawn buried the hatched a while back. They obviously had to have or Bret wouldn't have returned to Raw. Bret returned because he wanted to not because he had to. Common sense there. Bret owns Vince and Shawn easily.

Summerslam or Survivor series? We all know what Chef Timmy is talking about. Now here we go with all this locker room talk again. Who cares about that. Can I see the locker room sitting on my couch while I'm watching Wrestling? Can I see the locker room when I go to a live event? Duh no to both. Because thats not the stage and it doesn't matter what goes on back there. I could care less if the locker room is in turmoil and everyone hates each other. I am the fan watching the show. Now Bret owning VKM and HBK? Really? No one has ever been owned in the history of the show like Bret. The guy is absolutely heart broken and bitter about that until the day he dies. Bret will always be rembered for the screwjob and not the amazing career he had. It's sad but true. He was completely humiliated that night and the Excellence of Execution was gone forever after that. Who cares if he punched VKM in the face. Bret went on and failed with WCW. While VKM used the screwjob storyline to promote the Federation into a billion dollar company. Bret owns VKM? Are you for real? Now HBK? Who gives a $hit if he's a lying snake in the grass. He's no friend or relative of mine. The guys not dating my sister. I like the guy in the ring thats been entertaining me for the past 20 years. I could seriously care less what he's like in his personnal life. In the Wrestling World HBK has no doubt surpassed Bret Harts accomplishments and is arguably the greatest wrestler ever. No one has buried any hatchets here. Brets seriously damaged for life and VKM/HBK never gave a $hit to begin with. This is business Playboy. I just would have loved to see Bischoffs face when it happened because he had such big plans with our beloved Federation Title. Bret screwed Bret.
This is a stupid post that entail information misinformation misenterpretation.

Bret Hart = 3.5 million for 3 years with WCW. That's not failing my friend. That's called success. He knocked out Vince leaving him on his billion dollar ass after that event and he made Michaels cry like a two year old after that event. You don't want to hear it but 90% of the entire WWE roster was behind Bret and what he did including the fans. Why do you think they cheered him large when he came out for the first time last week? Shows how much you know. He has another DVD coming out entailing his and his family's entire wrestling career. Bret has the respect over every single person in the wrestling industry. So how did he get owned??? Big deal...they rung the bell and ended it. All the fans knew it was bullshit. Other wrestlers knew it was bullshit. He owns Vince and HBK x10.  ;)

Michaels = cry baby, pathological liar, fears Bret bigtime, finds God, find his smile, refuse to put other wrestlers over, hated by the locker room,  :'( :'( :'( :'( : Bret beat the shit out of him in the past. Undertaker has threatened him backstage. Other wrestlers boycotted Raw the next night in protest to Vince's scrutiny from the Survivor Series. So what does Michaels have? He wrestles once a week (RAW) because his very frail body can't do shit anymore. The only thing he has going for him right now is his hot wife. He's a gimp. Clean the s**t stains off your nose because its buried pretty high up Michaels rear.  :-X

Timmy loves you Playboy but we sadly missed this gem of a post. I'll get back to it.

Awesome promo with HBK and Undertaker on Raw. Taker clearly said HBK was arguably the best ever. Shawns crook eye end everything. He truly looked like he wanted to dance around. During this promo I personally saw a light in Showstoppas eyes! AGAIN SHAWN MICHAELS WILL SET THE STANDARD AT WRESTLE MANIA(http://www.studentsoftheworld.info/sites/sport/img/7909_shawn%20michaels.jpg)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icYH2OIVlyE
It was a gem, wasn't it? Lol...

Michaels and Undertaker will definately set the standard at WM. Personally, i'm really looking forward to it as now they both have no choice but to out do the last show they put on or they'll both look stupid. No count outs or dq's so will see what happens.  :)

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: Playboy on March 11, 2010, 05:08:03 AM
I can definately see some sort of outside interference in this match. I truely can't see Michaels losing in a clean finish two years in a row especially given his past history of flat out refusing to job to other wrestlers. Mind you this is the Undertaker we're taking about and he takes crap from no one backstage and has 100% backing from Vince McMahon himself. It will definately keep me glued to the TV set.

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: Playboy on March 12, 2010, 02:47:51 PM
Thats what will make this match killer and keep people glued tot he set while its on. The fact that it could really go either way. Can you guys see the Undertaker losing his streak? Can you see Michaels getting pinned and losing his career? They are both said to be taking time off again until summerslam so I can see something happening along the likes of both of them getting pummeled by other wrestlers or some kind of hardcore outside interference and thus Michaels keeps his carrer and Undertaker keeps his streak. I'm really looking forward to this match.  :)

On a side note, I just grabbed my Raw tickets for May 17th here in Toronto  :D

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: Montague on March 12, 2010, 05:45:16 PM
It’s going to be a hell of a match regardless of the finish.
Presuming it does end in some kind of schmoz where a couple of guys interfere & beat the piss out of Taker & HBK costing them both the match…

Taker & Shawn could both take time off through the end of summer, and then return and form a tag team to exact revenge on their WM attackers, who – at least by this time – are a dominant pairing in the tag ranks.

The buildup to that match could give a much-needed boost to the tag scene.
And being a team themselves would literally reduce Taker & Shawn’s ring work by half – a real benefit to both men.
Then, if they’re both ready, they could retire together after settling the heated score.
While losing both of those guys simultaneously would be devastating to the company, a Taker/HBK tag team & dual fairwell program would draw HUGE numbers.

Of course, I could be (and probably am) WAY off on any or all of these speculations.
They’re just guesses, but I can honestly see at least one or two of them materializing.

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: leonp1981 on March 13, 2010, 04:19:37 PM
I still reckon they should have an awesome match and both disappear, like I said before, it goes dark and Taker's gone, leaving Shawn alone in the ring, beaten.

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: Playboy on March 15, 2010, 04:14:20 AM
My wrestling buddies and I have really had some talks about this match and none of us can figure out whats gonna happen? No count out/DQ. Somebody is gonna get pinned here. Will Taker give the streak to  Shawn? We all know Shawns not gonna retire. The only thing I figure thats gonna be different then last year is? This one is gonna get bloody and they're gonna push each other to their limits. I love HBK but I really hope he doesn't take the streak.
I am really having a hard time calling this one too. Not sure what'll happen here. I still think there will be major outside interference keeping both the career and the streak in tact. Maybe it'll lead to a buried alive match or something at Summerslam when they both return. Undertaker and Michaels click real well together in the ring so we can all expect a phenomenal match at WM.

Agreed with the two above, I can't call it.  One thing though, is that any outside interference, or anything which results in both the streak and the career staying intact, would be an insult to the fans.  We've all watched both of them for years, we watched them go at it last year, and now the stakes are set so high, it just wouldn't be fair.

The major question in thismatch is if someone loses, which of these two wrestlers is willing to lose to a clean finish to the other???

If Shawn loses because of outside interference, it will give him a reason to return later and Taker can keep the streak.

That being said, I feel that a less than clean victory in Taker's final WM appearance would be a bit lame.

Then again, how many "career ending matches" have we seen where the person comes back 5-6 months down the road? It happened with Savage & Warrior. It happened with Michaels when he lost to Austin at WM14 on to return out of retirement in 2001. Terry Funk and Ric Flair have had numerous "retirement matches" over the years only to return to the sport in some sort of angle.

Speaking from facts, both the Undertaker & Shawn Michaels are said to be taking 5 months off until Summerslam after their big match at WM26. So that being said anything can happen. We shall see, boys.

You think? Maybe he needs to "find his smile again", lol.

IMO what they should have done is have Triple H cost HBK his match at WM26 and they return via stipulation at SS to wrestle Triple HHH in a hell in the cell. Now that would be epic.  :)

Does a wrestler ever stay retired?

Shawn Michaels has left the building. Got a little watery watching his farwell. Wish he hit his pose one last time before he went back to the dressing room.

I was thinking that as well, would have finished everything off nicely.

Yes. Randy Savage is a perfect example of this.

Savage never had any kind of formal retirement.
Neither did Bret.
They just kind of disappeared.

It’s usually the guys who have big announcements and/or ceremonies like Flair, HBK, Funk, etc. who end up coming back.

Savage IMO was the smartest of them all. He had a stellar career, won multiple titles, had endorsements with slim jim, is respected by all, and made his money x10. He retired gracefully without any bullshit or wanna be comebacks like some of these other fossils that came back.

To Cheftim, Triple HHH will never life in Michaels shadow. He was already a big star and WWE champ carrying the ship prior to Stephanie. He was rated #1 wrestler in the world 2000-2002 by all critics.

Hunter worked hard, improved a great deal, and aligned himself with the right people to solidify & even further enhance his standing in the company.

Some guys worked just as hard, were just as skilled, and were just as deserving, but never received their just due because they weren’t “in bed” so to speak with the powers that be.

Ricky Steamboat comes to mind.

I think a lot of people underestimate Hogan in that regard.
It’s true that he got a lot of help from McMahon & the huge WWF marketing machine, but many folks forget…

Hogan was a top draw in every territory in every country he worked.
He would have been a top earner & huge success with or without Vince.

But for as successful as Hulkster was, he eventually hit a ceiling – going as far as industry parameters allowed.
Vince & his visions raised blasted that ceiling, allowing Hulk AND the business to reach heights that were never thought possible.

Oh, you’re absolutely right, but my point is that there were a lot of talented, hardworking guys who never went as far as they should have because of company politics.

Hunter cemented his political standing, earning him the biggest return for his work.
Whereas guys like Steamboat, who were never cozy with the brass, never made it as far as they deserved despite having the abilities.

HHH was a top guy before marrying into the Klan McMahon, but it's naive to think it didn’t help him somehow, somewhere along the way.

2000-2002 rated the best Wrestler? HHH was pretty awesome back then. Anyway to post the history of the best wrestlers of the year? Who's rated #1 in 2010?
I think the more interesting question s now that Shawn is gone, Triple HHH is past his prime and getting up there, who the hell is gonna take over? Those are some pretty hard shoes to fill. Cena? I don't think so. He'll never put on a show like HBK. HHH is as you put it pretty much played out now. He hit his prime 2000-2005 pretty much. Batista is up there in age and like most big men in the WWE he can only do so much. WHo is left?

We knew once Shemus came out with the pipe the other night it was a leed in back to the sledge hammer. If this guy was rated the best wrestler in the World at one point? Why the prop? How can anyone not see HHH success was all because of his nuptuals? Who's it gonna be next Mania? Cena or HHH against the streak?
WM is still a long time aways. Next PPV is going to be an Extreme Rules PPV. Cena will face Batista in a last man standing where Batista is expected to loose and then take time off to do a movie. HHH will surely face Sheamus in some sort of street fight. Probably a sledge hammer fight.

Maybe his "championships" were won because of who he slept with, but at one point in time I actually looked forward to his ring work, regardless of who he was/is boning.

The prop is part of the character and attitude, it doesn't make or break a persons ability.

You are all missing the point. HHH was already a two time WWE champ in 2000-2001 and making over a mill per year prior to Stephanie McMahon.

Bret knew ring psychology as well as anyone.
Some guys had a greater repertoire of maneuvers, but Bret knew how to make his mean the most.
In that respect, I rate him right up there with Hennig & Davey.

Mediocrity could be used to describe his mic work.
In fact, it blew so much, he may as well have just stood up there and deep-throated the microphone.
What’s surprising to me is that, despite his lack of oratory, Bret was incredibly charismatic.
Presumably, he accomplished this through his character.
Fans loved him because of who he was and what he did & stood for - not for catch phrases created by writers.

He also had a good look.
Young girls liked him.
He banged a lot of different adult women on the road.
And I think the young males could relate to him more because he didn’t posses the cartoon-ish physique usually reserved for comic book superheroes.
Guys could see a lot of themselves in Bret - except for the long hair and pink tights.
But, they were more like him than they were compared to Hogan or UW.

His ego is entirely too big to stay out of the spotlight for good.

I don't care how many times he goes to church.
Lots of people "find God" for a little while...then they're back to their old ways.

This is in no way a guarantee, but it is very possible for Shawn to come back, get hooked, and revert back to some form of the sniveling, spoiled little junkie he always was, playing backstage politics and doing strange shit behind (Vince's) closed doors.

One of his best friends is heir to the throne.
Another will occupy a posh backstage position.

Can you imagine? I was actually watching Beyond The Mat the other night and it showed clips of him half in the bag. At one point he flat out refused to do an interview on a radio talk show unless the owner of the network got him some crack.

If you watch his dvd, you'll notice what a really bad and hard life he had. His old man treated him and his family like shit. But Jake bounced back, got bigger then his old man ever was, made large coin and pissed it all away because he simply couldn't let his demons go. In other words, your correct. He did create not only some....but most of his current problems.

that's right.  She married Houston who was Jake's half-brother.  Her dad was a small time promoter in Texas too while Grizzly was there.  and by all accounts Grizzly is probably a huge part of what is wrong with Jake.

Was it Kip Frey or Bill Watts that originally brought Jake in back in 1992 for an unbelievable 3.5 million dollars per year only to have one of them that didn't like Jake, rip the contract up and offer him 200,000 per year?

And for everyone's information, it wasn't the big guaranteed contracts that broke WCW as they were making ALL kinds of cash when they were going full blown. It was the mis-management.

In Flair's book he talked about how Arquette felt really, really uncomfortable with that.  He was more or less roped into it to promote that movie.  On a plus side, Flair advised Arquette to go out with the boys and buy them a round....Arquette did, which I thought was a good move on his part.

That match had excellent narrative.
For people who dislike Nash (strictly for his ring work), they should watch this match.

Sid also played his part beautifully by filling the rest spots for Nash & Shawn.
Shawn went at it extremely hard - no wonder his body is broken now.

I LOVED the psychology of this match!

Great match....Shawn was just incredible.  He could have carried me to a 4 star match at that point.

Nash has great timing, but that last jacknife was ugly.

I would have liked to see Sid be more physically involved, but he did give them the chance to catch their breath.

Fav parts were the camera guys.....the way Shawn dragged the first guy away was classic.

I think it confirms what I said several months ago:
Shawn isn't done; his ego is too big to go out & stay out.

But, he's earned it.
So, bless him if that's what he wants & his body can still do it.
I just sincerely hope he doesn't keep at it until "something" happens that means he can't.

The Taker/HHH/HBK segment was the best one of the night.  It got a bit "I respect you...", "I respect you too" at the start, but there was a lot of stuff in there that was very close to home, and added a bit of emotion/realism to the match that is often missing these days.

There is a strong possibility of WWE making HBK cost HHH the match at WM thus keeping the streak alive, keeping HHH's dignity of loosing and getting another big match set up for say a Summerslam or so. HBK loosing his career to Taker at last years WM could've been a way to keep HBK off the roster to let his body rest and more importantly heel.

I thought it was great. Heart touching for Timmy. These three guys are just awesome! HBK is one of my favorites but would hate to see him go down the same road Flair did. Showstoppa is gonna be a big part of the streak match no doubt. I believe he's gonna cost Helmsley the victory. I really think he looks like a little old man now and has nothing left to do. But his involvement will help to make this the match of the card. I cannot wait to watch it! I wonder if Diesel is going to be involved as well? At 4:07 I though he was tuning up the band to nail Helmsley. It always makes me laugh that he goes around kicking people in the face. Undertaker stopped him short with that one though. Great great promo for the match. 19-0 RIP.
3 of my favorites right there and a phenomenal promo cut to hype the match. Once those three are out of the picture, the WWE goes in a downward siral. Mark my word.

That is correct. He is also one of the best talents that ever entered a ring. Not too many people know this but the real reason he is called Mr.Wrestlemania is because he has been virtually in every single Wrestlemania since 1988 when he started in the WWE excluding the 3 year haitus he took to heal his ailing back.

Yeah, and I think that, unless you were actually there, you ought to questions certain stories.
However, there’s a strong correlation between versions told even by HBK’s buddies.
Now, if his FRIENDS are saying what a drugged up, trouble-causing junkie he is…and, that’s probably the euphemistic version!

Michaels does deserve a 12-page thread devoted to his performance alone.
On the other hand, Ron could devote an ENTIRE BOARD to Shawn’s drug abuse, his history of getting into trouble, and pussing out every time he didn’t want to put someone over.
If he has one more “career-ending” injury, I’m gonna personally go to Texas and puke on his living room carpet.

We’ve mentioned here several times before that Michaels’ fan base was incredibly strong, but very small.
From a story line perspective, of course there aren’t many fans who would rally behind a champion who forfeits his title because he “lost his smile.”

The extreme faggotry and pussification of Shawn’s character are what prevented him from developing a larger following.

________________________ ________________________ ________

As for Rhodes, I am at a complete loss.
0 looks.
0 mat skills.
Sounds like a gay retard on the mic.
Booked us the Shockmaster and picked polka dot ring-gear.

Yet, he was the “common” man, and is considered a legend.

At least Shawn put on incredible performances…when he wasn’t too busy looking for his smile.
Rhodes never contributed a single good thing to wrestling in my opinion.
I respect his success, but I’ll never understand how he did it.

Agree.  I always go back to the fact that VKM was allowing the documentary to be shot and they caught everything.  you KNOW VKM had final say on what was going to be allowed to be aired and for him to allow it says to me that 100% it was a work.  No doubt in my mind.

I am a little surprised that Bret or Shaun haven't spilled the beans about it.

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: Montague on October 29, 2011, 05:40:58 AM
I'm not doubting this theory. But if this is true? Why did Bret always sound so bitter in every interview after it happened? Also if it was a work. Why did it take Bret so long to come back to the Federation?

Things just seemed to happen a little "too perfectly."
Also, Bret was such an old-school traditionalist who protected the business.
He went to such extreme measures to kayfabe over the years and PRIDED himself on portraying realism both in and out of the ring.

Bret is the last guy I would expect to “come clean” about wrestling, which is EXACTLY what he did in admitting that his promoter & boss changed the predetermined outcome of his match.

I will always maintain that Montreal was orchestrated as an edgy and interesting way for Vince to come clean about the business, which was almost necessary given the nature of the type of content he would soon produce: sex, kidnapping, firearms, necrophilia, etc.

As for the timeframe, I suspect that Vince & Bret (& Shawn) planned to revisit this storied rivalry until Owen’s accident.
I believe THAT caused a GENUINE tension and animosity between the families and the WWF.
Owen’s accident nixed any plans for Bret’s return - whenever it may have been planned, and I think there was eventually GENUINE BAD BLOOD between Bret & Vince, but not necessarily over the Survivor Series.

Title: Re: Sweet Chin Music
Post by: Montague on October 30, 2011, 06:04:48 AM
Your making me more of a believer and appreciate all of your posts. The whole thing makes sense to Timmy now. Can you explain the bad blood and what happened between the Harts and VKM. Or maybe start an Owen thread? RIP Owen.

Sure.
I don’t want to derail your HBK thread, but since you asked:

A lot of this insight is from Bret’s book, as well as interviews he’s done over the years, but essentially, when Owen died, there was incredible tension and animosity that developed between the Harts, Pattersons (Owen‘s in-laws), and McMahons.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, there was also contention between Hart family members.

Owen’s widow, Martha, was in disagreement with certain Hart siblings over how the lawsuit & settlement should be handled.
Members of the Hart family formed their own little coalitions with some siblings siding with Martha.
Bret and his parents tried to work with Martha, who’d even asked Bret to oversee certain things and act as a spokesman for the media - which, really pissed off the more jealous brothers & sisters.

Granted this is only Bret’s side of things, but it sounds like Martha really “played” certain Hart family members to get what she wanted.
I think this is evidenced by the fact that once the proverbial dust settled, she pretty much cut all ties with the family.

Jim & Davey's wives tried to "work" with Vince during all of this in hopes of getting their husbands' old jobs back with WWF.
Vince promised Bret access to his archive footage, which he later reneged on.

There’s a lot more details to this, and if you’re interested, I highly recommend getting a copy of Bret’s book, which turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be.

^^Looks like Shawn's selling the move more than Bret. ;D

The only thing I never liked about SCM was that the "get-ready" was one big telegraph.
Basically, unless the opponent is Helen Keller, he'd know Shawn is coming.

I know the foot stomp and side-step charge were theatrical and dramatic, but I always preferred when Shawn hit the kick unexpectedly; the way Storm & Malenko could hit that half-crab, or even Benoit got into the crossface from any position.

It may seem foolish to desire realism in an admittingly "fake" sport, but wrestling fans undoubtedly like their fake action to at least look real.
