I disagree.  Batman is too terrible of a movie to even warrant any accolade.

Hoffman is Much, much, much better.

Ledger did deserve best actor for Brokeback Mountain though.

Nazi soldier: I beat you because you ask 'why do I beat you'...

If the Bafta's are anything to go by,
Slumdog Millionaire should take home many awards, including best pic.

I think this is pretty much how the academy will vote too.

The Kodak Theater is just  few blocks from my house, and they closed off Hollywood Blvd earlier in the week to set up the red carpet and grand stands.  Needless to say my neighborhood has been gridlocked all week.  After the ceremonies, it will take another 3-4 days to tear everything down.

I used to live over in that area as well.  Three years ago I tried leaving my house on Sunday of the Oscars, it took 45 minutes to go three blocks, I parked my car and walked home.  I moved out of there a few months later heh.

Slumdog Millionaire, Frozen River and The Wrestler are all low budget films.

Slumdog was supposed to be released straight to DVD.

Frozen River should have been nominated for more awards, it is one of the top films this year in my opinion.

Ah, I was referring to your picks. Hollywood likes winners (read: money) and every so often they tip their hat to artistic vision. Read your William Goldman. He's written a couple of good insider books on H-wood. Dude knows what he's talking about, and remember his H-wood dictum:'Nobody knows anything.'   :D

Point well established and I am in full agreement.  Vidal made the same assessment.  I still am miffed over Brokeback Mountain  or Good Night and Good Luck not winning for best picture and it is a travesty this year if Frost/Nixon does not win.

Good point! That scene at the end of BBM where Heath is standing in front of the open closet door with the shirt on a hangar with the mountains seen through the small trailer window is a master class in framing a scene. Still can see it in my head.

/liked heath better in that movie than batman, too

As far as i hear this story is terrible but she plays her part well, kinda just sounds like typical Jewish anguish getting things awry.

Nope.  Nothing Pro-Jewish about the movie.  The opposite is actually meant to be conveyed in that you sympathize for Winslett as the Nazi Guard as well as everyone involved.

I think they're trying to woo the Indian market

Slumdog millionaire was ok but it's hardly what I would call oscar worthy.  There have been better indian movies.

the same could be said about Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and many other films that have won Oscars.  But to be able to be voted on, the first thing that a film has to do is get released to a theater in Los Angeles and New York City.
