While attending this past weekend's Arnold Expo, my friend accidentally broke her arm at one of the booth events.
Although not a life-threatening emergency, I was extremely perturbed by the fact that none of the floor staff - even those with radios - could direct us to the paramedics.
We eventually got to the medical room outside the expo hall, but the nurse did not wish to receive the injured woman because she was not a registered competitor. Thankfully, there was a doctor there who did a quick assessment and applied a sling, and he then provided us with directions to a few local ERs.
Based on this experience, I shudder to think of what would've happened if someone had gone into cardiac arrest there. The event organizers should really take a hard look at this, because the current plan does not get the job done.

What the hell were you doing at that booth ???
-
how did she break her arm? Overhead Schmoe Presses?
-
didnt ol Arnie mandate that everyone have an A.E.D unit installed in their facilities a few years back?
Not that it would matter- I mean, just cuz it's there doesn't mean you know how to use it.

Her arm snapped as she was lifting the atlas stone.
I was going to do the big dumbbell before she got hurt.
-
Next time, let Kegdrainer handle the stones.

All the big guys who've never seen it before always think it's a pure strength thing, not realizing it's more a test of grip strength. The handle is huge and it rolls on them every time.
I have the form for the stone, but I don't think I have anywhere near the strength needed to lift it. She got it off the ground slightly and that's when the arm went. Can't cry about the past, but we never should've been there. We were supposed to be competing in the gym at that very moment, and it's going to take me a while to get over that fact. *sigh*

so, u mad a poor choice and are now after attention? should you all be performing stunts at a sales booth?

My issue is that no one on the floor was able to communicate to us what we needed to do to get medical treatment.
If we had known that there was zero medical support available for Expo attendees, we could've gone directly to the nearest ER as soon as it happened.

It's certainly not life-threatening, but you still want to start treatment as soon as possible. It's important to get the pain under control, too, to keep the body from possibly going into shock. She handled it, but it could've escalated at any time. There also could've been damage to nerves, connective tissue, or blood vessels. I just wanted my buddy to get a diagnosis and to not be in pain.
