Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White told The L.A. Times his organization has struck verbal deals for Anderson Silva to defend his middleweight championship against Vitor Belfort on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas.
Belfort, a former UFC champion, returned to the octagon Saturday to defeat former champion Rich Franklin in Dallas.
Silva has emerged as the most elite fighter in the UFC, most recently disposing of former light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.

Silva by first round KO... ::)
For gods sakes, the only fight at 185 Im remotely interested in watching is a rematch with Hendo-- And Hendo has a 5% chance of eeking out a decision. Belfort is going to come at Silva full throtle and get his jaw broken in the process.
If Silva stays at 205 he should be fighting the top guys in the division and he should inevitably end up fighting Machida (even though he says he wont).

I'd rather see hendo/anderson II also, but if it's gonna be at 185 and it's not hendo, vitor would be my first choice....
there's really nobody else !

This is a little too soon for Dana to throw Vitor in over Nate/Hendo, I guess since Nate and Hendo both had big wins, but they already fought Anderson, he went with plan-C. He's gonna have Nate and Hendo fight each other (it was supposed to happen at UFC 105 but it got postponed) and the winner of that gets the winner of Vitor/Anderson.

kinda quick to have Vitor get a title shot no?
-
vitor's a relatively big name for those who've followed over the years...
might as well milk his name for PPV numbers before he loses..
that's kind of what I'm thinkin

Yup! That sounds about right.

They are just doing this to fuck with Hendo for not resigning already. They have Vitor signed, sealed, and delivered and haven't come to terms on a new deal with Dan yet.

Mousassi v. Silva @ 185
UFC 110
You heard it here first!
;)

Dana wants to throw Vitor in there before Vitor gets out of there to fight for some decent cash in other organisations.
That's my guess.
Vitor ain't ready for Anderson, in one or two fights maybe. But now?
no way in hell.
The real fight would be a catch weight fight with Machida and Anderson Silva @ at perhaps 195 lbs.
Machida isn't ripped at light heavy and Anderson is a tall middle weight.
Anderson Silva (6'2'') is actually taller than Machida(6'1'').
I think it would be a great matchup, and I definitely see Anderson Silva winning it.
I think many though, including most on this board 8), are going to pick Machida.

you guys act like theres not fighting outside the UFC...Vitor's not ready? He's a seasoned veteran that has fought alot of the top fighters in the world....He's on a 5 fight win streak and being as he's not getting any younger and has 30 fights under his belt....when would he be ready?
dude is very ready and looks to be back to his early form before injuries and personal problems derailed him for a time.....

Agreed

i would like to have seen vitor fight atleast one more time before getting a crack at the title. i really believe a 100% vitor can beat silva...no doubt about it. he is faster than anderson in my opinion

That's what I was thinking...geez, one fight back in the UFC and he's going up for the title ?!?! wtf
no wonder a lot of guys feel jilted by Dana, some guys have been waiting around forever to get a title shot and he just gives it away like that.
