Title: How long before a 3000lb(+) total?
Post by: John O on November 11, 2009, 03:08:05 PM
I believe the highest total in the history of powerlifting is  2,905 - 1,235 -910 -760

How long before we see a 1000(+) squat , 1000(+) bench , 1000(+) deadlift done in the same meet. for a total of 3000(+)?

Not in THAT specific combination in our competitive life time. But, I do see Donnie Thompson getting closer to that total this time. 1275-1300 930-960 800-825 I think he'll be in this range in NY.

1300/800/900 seems possible very soon.

In wpo style a 4000 total is possible, 2000 half squat 1000 belly bench and 550 partial DL.

LOL

Not far off the truth.

I predict one of the heavyweights at one of the "hardcore" gyms in the Midwest soon "squat" a 1500, "bench" 1000 and deadlift 700.

Give it 2 years or so.

Wouldn't bet against it being Dave "Board" Hoff. ;D

Of course he'll do it at some SPF backyard meet where cameras are banned, and maybe even red lights are banned as well. 8)

In all seriousness. No. Never.

Actually, I think it's much more interesting to debate whether 880-661-881 (1000 kilos) can ever be lifted raw (no knee wraps).

Because suits and shirts change over time.

But strength doesn't.

I myself compete in gear, but my own numbers aren't comparable to those done by lifters even 10 years ago due to the improvements in garments.

So the only real comparison is when the suits and the shirts are off.

Paul Anderson I believe still holds the record at over 6200 lbs. on the back lift, he died in 1994

brian siders I believe could hit the 1000 kilo barrier where he stands at the moment... Big raw squat, bench is way up there in a single ply, and his pull is 800+.

Robert Wilkerson is the one lifter with a rock solid chance at getting the first 1000 lb squat in just a belt and knee wraps and he's also got a rock solid shot at 700+ RAW on the bench.

Unfortunately, he's not the best deadlifter with his build, but knowing him, I can see Big Rob going 1000+, 700+, 700 within the next few years.

Seeing the kind of squats that Dave Hoff are getting passed and that he's a good benchpresser even when not stuffing his shirt, also a very good deadlifter..
He may very well get 1250-950-850 in a couple of years.

of course he could never squat anything close to 1250 if he tried to hit proper depth. But that's another issue.
