I remember when I went with my dad to the old Maple Leaf Gardens here in TOronto back in 1986 as a kid to watch Savage defend his newly aquired IC title against Tito Santana in a rematch....Savage came out...then ran back to the locker room....and came out again with the IC title. He forgot his title in the locker room. Lol... :)

From what everyone's said, all of the Poffo's were extremely professional and reliable.
Either that, or maybe Liz wasn't the only thing Macho kept locked up in the dressing room.

Lol....he looked like he forgot it. He started to come through the curtain, but then ran back and came back out. I was able to catch it because I sat exactly opposite the aisle. It was a house show (non televised event) so no one would have caught it. Pretty funny thought.

I think it was about 20+ years ago I read in a magazine that a champ once left his belt at an arena, and a janitor found & returned it.
I want to say it was Flair, but that doesn't sound right.

But why the hell was Rude wearing a mask there/ You could clearly tell it was him by his voice, build and mannerisms.

IIRC - the angle saw Rude originally show up in ECW under a mask, taunting Douglas.
It was very obviously him, and they made no effort to hide it.
I presume he continued wearing the mask for heat.

Harley & Simmons probably would have become drinking buddies had they worked & traveled together long enough.
They could have been wrestling's first incantation of the "APA."
And, yes, Jesse was a big dude - tall & muscular.
He claimed to still have 18” guns when campaigning for governor in ‘97.
Ron Simmons is one of the most underrated wrestlers ever, IMO.
I really believe most people forgot that he was a WCW world champion.
Additionally, he was the first black WCW h-w champ.
Then, Vince brought him in and gave him that stupid-ass “Farooq” gimmick.

The Nation didn’t do much for him, either - although I did like his work with Layfield in the APA once they ditched the Apocalyptic/Satanic bullshit with Taker (who didn‘t even like it).
Ron was a hard worker and a good worker.
I simply can’t understand why he’s seemingly left out of the wrestling history books.

I agree with you on all points. We used to call that dumb gimmick "Fa-reak." Hated it and he didn't need it one bit. And the APA stuff was good after that silly satanic crap. Should have left that stuff to Sullivan in 80's Florida, who nailed it.
I think Ron suffers because business in WCW was down during that time period. It was such a transition going on with territory wrestling dying and nobody was sure what was going to happen.

I wonder if it was more out of respect.

But, if you watch, it wasn't all tacky overselling.

It was a pretty good match. I was there when it happened. Fans were really into it and very pro-Hogan. I don't care who's in the ring with Hogan but Hogan owns the crowd and the person in the ring with him when he is out there. The Rock learned this the hard way at WM18 & so did a bunch of others who tried to one-up Hogan.

Good find on that promo of Ravishing Rick in the gym!! I remember that when he tried to chase Warrior for the World Title. He roided up hard for it to as you could tel that although still very lean, he gained about 12 good pounds and he looked phenomenal.

Quick trivia about this particular timeframe of Prime Time Wrestling:
The studio audience consisted of WWF employees.
Oftentimes, it would take several hours to film one episode, which was done at the end of a workday, by which time everyone was tired, but had to pretend to be interested in the show.
No one was even permitted to get up to use the restrooms during filming!

Yeah, Tony sucked hairy balls as an announcer - at least in wrestling - and I'll never understand how he worked as one for as long as he did.
But, Rude was fantastic.
His ring repertoire wasn't incredibly sophisticated, but he was a great worker in that he connected with the fans and kept their attention as well as an emotional hook.
I don't know how much of the original ECW you've had the chance to see, GCD, but Rude's brief stint there was over VERY strong!

I loved his initial reaction as a face, when he came down as a masked opponent for Douglas. Seeing him in that ring shows you just how big a man he really was, i recall him punking Douglas by telling him if he knew who he was he'd shit his pants of something along those lines. It was SO obvious who it was to the fans, Douglas sold it well.
He had a handful of manoeuvres but his ring presence was incredible, you knew you were seeing a genuine talent when he wrestled. His reign as US Champ in WCW was brilliant, i thought he'd have gotten the shot against Vader when Simmons was drawn out of the hat.
(on a side note: the closing commentary of that match is amongst the best i've ever heard, JR was on fire!)

And you're right; for his part, Douglas put both Rude and the angle over BIG TIME.
I always liked and respected Douglas - both his work and as a person.
I remember being a trainee. Shane had no idea who the hell I was, but the fact that I was working backstage meant that I was somebody, and Douglas never treated me or anyone else like a jabroni...even though most of us were. ;)
But, back to Rude: yes, tremendous presence.
In fact, I've heard stories that when Rude took part in autograph signings, fans would be all over the place in true cluster-fukk-fashion at other tables...but, in Rude's line, everyone was orderly and behaved.

He was put over Warrior for the IC title simply to enhance Jims own popularity, which was a disgrace (although Nash & Hall say he drew a ridiculous amount of $ and they liked him). Warrior won the title back and then went onto bigger & better things whilst Rude had to make the best of whatever he was assigned to do. He could very easily have been champion, he had the heat and he had the admiration in equal measure.
