Like the Washington Capitals' chances but...........they give up waaaaaaaaaayyyyy too many goals on defense. Their penalty kill and goaltending have been weak all year. They've been simply outscoring teams.

regular season is one thing, playoff hockey is an entirely different story. Teams tighten up in the postseason. It won't be so easy for the Caps to put up 4-5 goals a game like they have all year.

The Kings and Caps are so a like.   They've been abused by their conferense for so many years. I remember when I lived in Md'   and Philly and NY (pick one) would use Washington as an ez win.   Edmonton and used the Kings the same way.  Gretzki   Ovetchkin   wow.  Murray!!!!

Weak where?   They are tuff!   Ask the Ducks and Avelanch!   Ask Dallas!  Their last 4-5 games were shootouts!!!!!    You have them confused with the purple and gold kings!  No one in the west wants to play LA.

Caps blow it in overtime last night. I know it's only game one but I've said it once and I'll say it again.......The Caps have horrible penalty kill and defense. They've relied on their scoring all season. This loss should be a huge wakeup call for them.

Most  do unfortunately.   I really didn't follow the NHL till I moved to So Jersey in 84 and some kids asked me who I cheer for....since I am origionally from LA   I said the KIngs....they laughed    but I have supported them since then.   But if the NHL wants to compete with the NF, Cros needs to head for NY   or some other Nationaly Known Market!   Remember Wayne was big in Edmonton   but his popularity sky rocketed when he moved to LA.   If Wayne were to walk through a blk neiborhood, he'd be signing autographs for hours   if Crosby were to walk around any major city    no one would know who he is!   Its his career..not mine but if he wants to sell the sport and his name, he's going to have to move.   No one cares who Marion is   or was..the only Lemeuix the rest of the US knows is Jocylyn!!!!

blacks make up about 12% of the country

as much as the liberal media wants you to think, appealing to blacks does not greatly increase the popularity of any sport

There's really no time for fighting unless one team is waaaay ahead or its a boring tie.   But they are set up   so goofily.   Our guy Ivinanas  usually stands nears some other teams goon   says something or gives a look   then they agree...as soon as the puck hits the ice   they drop gloves   helmet (sometimes)  then hit each others shoulder pads  till one falls.  They get up then sit.  McSorley was my favorite  at least he had a book already waiting for him in the penalty box. ;)

Impart.    Its also up to the players to reach out. Here in LA   the Kings (Ducks also) avoid the inner city   but hang out to meet kids in the rich area's and "support" the rich white hospitals.  I am working with Simmonds agent to get him out to the South Bay to get his name around the city before some team yanks him away.

Who gives a shit if the Caps won the president's trophy? Do you think the Montreal Canadiens are impressed? The Caps blew a golden chance to close out the series at home. Ridiculous that the Canadiens are playing for a game 7 in the first round.

Regular season means absolutely dick in the NHL. Sure, it's great if you have the league's best record but just like any other sport, every team is 0-0 once the playoffs start.

just saying that it's silly to say the pens have more talent when the caps have had a better record 2 years in a row, including the best overall record this year

people think it's all ovie and a bunch of schmoes

semin, backstrom, and green don't exist ::)

I hear what you're saying but the bottom line is this: The Caps are playing in a game 7 against the conference's lowest seeded playoff team. Shouldn't be happening. That goalie for Montreal is playing on another level right now.

Maybe the smart thing was for Ovie to keep his mouth shut when he declared that the Canadien's goalie was "shaking" out of fear.

Embarrassing is all I can say. When you compare the shots on goal, it's unbelievable that the Caps lost this series. Semin was complete non-factor in all 7 games. The goalie for Montreal played absolutely lights out. But his golden streak is coming to an end in the next round.

Argubly the Caps greatest season comes crashing to an end to a much less talented team.

but I've been saying it all season.....Caps' goaltending and defense have been shitty all season. They've simply been outscoring teams. That's not going to cut it, come playoff time. It's an entirely different season. Teams really tighten up defensively and goalies can get hot.

The entire Caps organization should be ashamed. The Canadiens just cleared a direct path to the Cup finals for the Pens.

Wings are getting old and we need Maltby, Draper and even Lidstrom to step back.....

I'm a big fan of Lombardi, he's got competent offensive skill, he's blazing fast, kills penalties, is young (under 30). Not sure how it could happen though. With Helm, Abdelkader, Miller and Eaves due up for re-signing, Hudler coming back, and Ritola being out of options and having to be resigned as well, there's logjam when it comes to forwards. And Phoenix might resign Lombardi anyway.

Looking at the lines for next year...something is gonna have to give.

Holmstrom (if he doesn't retire) - Datsyuk - Franzen

Filppula - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi (like I said, I believe he'll be back)

Hudler - Miller - Cleary

Eaves - Helm - Abdelkader

Have to assume they'll resign Ritola; what about Draper? Do they nudge him toward retirement? Or do they decide to let some combination of Miller/Eaves/Bertuzzi go and use that money to go after somebody like a Matthew Lombardi?

As for the defense...assuming Lidstrom comes back, the top four remain the same, it's the bottom pair that gets murky. Lilja, Lebda and Meech are all FAs. Meech seems like a lock to be gone. Lebda, who knows. I don't think anybody would miss him, but who knows what Holland's thinking. Lilja, I still say he needs to be back for his value on the PK. And then you've got Kindl, one of the prize prospects in the organization, he's out of options too and has to be up with the NHL club next year.

Lidstrom - Rafalski

Kronwall - Stuart

Lilja - Ericsson/Lebda/Kindl?

Of course, all bets are off if Lidstrom retires, that's over 7 million dollars for the Wings to spend however they please. It won't be QUITE that much, since some of it would be used to bring Hudler back in and maybe a bump in pay to some of our FAs...but the entire thing gets tossed on its side if #5 retires.

Verrrrrrrrrry interesting offseason coming up.

For me, it's just sour grapes. nothing more, nothing less. And without Ovi and Crosby deep in the NHL playoffs, this hurts the NHL for fans in the USA. I mean, we're talking about the two best players in the NHL and even Canadien hard core fans would agree with that.

I do feel bad that the game winner came on a stupid penalty like that.

This is negated by the fact that, as stated, they blew a 3-0 series lead and a 3-0 Game 7 lead to set that up. I love Matt Hunwick, but boy did the Bruins blow it. At least now I have no conflict of interest in the conference finals. GO CAMALLERI!!!!

i never would've predicted the sharks getting swept, though they continue to underachieve

E

Hossa is going to Hoist the Cup.  :D

I have always like Chicago because they are one of the real teams. "THE ORIGINAL SIX"   8)

Go Patrick Kane.

yeah root for a guy that beats up cab drivers over a quarter ::)

good for hossa, though the only team he actually helped make the finals was the pens, and i think we make it without him, just woud've lost to the wings in 5 instead of 6

i never understood this whole "root for the original six" mindset, and shouldn't a wings fan rooting for chicago be like michigan rooting for ohio state in a bcs game?

NO. I have friends who root for any BIG TEN TEAM NO MATTER WHAT IN ANY BOWL GAME.  8)

It was over $50  >:(

I just grew up a Big Ten fan and a fan of the Original Six.  8) Chicago has had like the last 16 #1 picks and it is about time that they get back to the finals.  :)

fuck i don't like the blackhawks and i hate the flyers :-\

i think chicago wins it in 6, but it would be funny to see hossa lose a 3rd straight time with 3 teams

wings lost in 5 in the 2nd round, took 7 games to win in the 1st round

pens lost in 7, won the first round in 6

philly ties it up, i think they have looked like the better team in each game

if they win the cup they have to be remembered as maybe the most unlikely champion in the history of sports

damn that was the most anticlimatic OT win to clinch the cup ever, it's like nobody other than kane knew what to do

congrats to the hawks, it won't be so easy next time :P

Are you saying the pens will win it next year earl?

they would've given the hawks a better series, though i say that because the pens owned the flyers all year

flyers needed a shootout win to clinch a playoff spot, i don't think the hawks played the best the east had to offer

pens weren't as good as last year, mgt didn't replace defenseman rob scuderi and hal gill and gonchar seems to have hit the wall

pens will have cap room to make some good moves, blackhawks will have to let go some of their good players

Good question, with dieting and Cowboys Lakers and USC drama, i had no time to spend on the Kings    but hope they are working on the Crosby deal i proposed.....Luc and Mario should be working that through!
