Title: Fashion No-Nos for Men and Women
Post by: Butterbean on July 20, 2010, 08:26:02 AM
WHAT NOT TO WEAR

Ask men and women what they don't like about the opposite sex's attire, and they'll go on. And on. The following partial list is culled from fashion experts and novices alike.

Women don't like it when men wear:

-Velcro sandals with socks

-Pants slung so low they reveal underwear

-An undershirt as a regular shirt

-Too much product in their hair

-Baseball caps for all occasions

Men don't like it when women wear:

-Baggy clothes, like big jeans and flannels

-Too many accessories at once

-Patterned hosiery

-Hoop earrings

-Stilettos, if they're going to complicate an evening

-Makeup so thick it looks caked on

(Contra Costa Times Correspondent Meghan Brown contributed to this report.)

I was surprised about the and hoop earrings and stillettos...and seems like guys wouldn't care about the hosiery?

Big "underpants" on women, especially under tight stretch pants at the gym. So tacky.

I actually like hoop earrings as long as they arent the big hoops and I agree with the article on stilettos, they have their time and place but if its going to complicate whatever your going to do then leave them.

as for the no nos for me I sometimes wear an under shirt for a regular shirt but just for running to the corner store or to run a quick errand.

who wears velcro sandals anymore?  ;D ;D ;D

is it the look or the idea that they arent wearing socks?

what about ankle socks, the kind that make it look like youre not wearing socks?

Those are only acceptable at the beach/pool on vacation or in the mens locker room, in which case women don't care.

still kinda ghey

reminds me of some stuffy preppy from an ivy league school

oh, and necklaces/chains, bracelets on men - basically anything more than a watch and a wedding band comes off "guido-ish" to me.

Your distress here made me LOL

Men w/o socks in "boat shoes" (not sure if boat shoes is teh right term) is a fine look imo.

For me the idea of men not wearing socks in other closed shoes seems stinky. :P

LOL  :-[

so its the idea of no sock? not the look? you can tell Im wearing socks but you have to look close...

what is the preference when the guys are wearing shorts? knee socks? above the ankle?

p.s. I also tuck in my shoe laces, is that a no no too?

I think the idea of no sock grosses me out more than the look...but depending on the shoe...(like I said, no sock in a boat shoe looks fine) it may make your ankles look so skinny that it makes us uncomfortable.  What kind of shoes are you talking about?  How about a crew sock?

When you are wearing dress shorts, wear boat shoes w/no sock.

If you are completely casual (even slob-like) to me sandals w/no socks are fine...my hub doesn't wear sandals though.

Workout shoes - crew sock

Business casual w/pants...colored regular dress socks in closed toed shoes.

p.s. I also tuck in my shoe laces, is that a no no too?

Why? Are you afraid of them getting caught in your bike chain?  If not, I don't think I've ever heard of this.

LOL I had to look up crew socks, meh I dont really like the way that looks Im short and i think that makes me look shorter hahahah

I agree with the boat shoes but thats not really my look I guess, but I wear thong sandals quite often now b/c its summer

I guess the shoe lace thing started b/c I didnt like tieing a double knot to make sure my laces didnt come untied so I just tucked them into one side of the shoe after I tied them but now i do it all the time and honestly when Im wearing shorts its b/c i think it looks cleaner, no laces bouncing everywhere....also ever get on a leg press machine and have a lace start to itch your leg mid set? LOL maybe im crazy...

shoes like this style and my gratuitous leg shot with my sneakers, you can see what I was talking about you can see the socks but its not obvious...maybe im crazy...

NOW NOW NOW I apologized for chastising you for wearing socks and sandals velcro sandals, no need for the salt and vinegar...

I just noticed though look at those skechers they dont show the laces out either...I just think it looks cleaner but I honestly do it even when wearing pants b/c its practical I dont have to tie a double knot and I can get in and out of my shoes easier.

I mean more of a short crew sock (pic below)

And yes, those shoes so look good...maybe your laces are too long to begin with?

And yes, try a short crew because it looks like you have no socks and thus have stinky feet and for some women that translates to an assumption of perhaps bad hygiene in general. Good quads though! :)

I think STella is talking about these kind of shoes look ok w/out a sock.

I suppose it's ok in a nautical environment, but comes off pretentious any other time (IMO).

Crew socks a def must Tony.

I'm guilty of the undershirt, but usually just around the house or to the gym.

My girl refuses to wear anything but high heals. She has about 50 pairs of heals and 1 pair of flats...

I'm adoring Stella's huge knowledge of what is proper and correct... pants tucked in, socks here and there, etc?  she surely knows what she's talking about.

Me, I have issues with tits tummies and bums out on fat ugly women and those disgusting fat tarty backsides.  Yuck.  Did they not look in a mirror before venturing outdoors?

I also have troubles understanding muslim women here in London fully clad in black from top to toe.  But what must they think of these over-sexual lazy fat ugly disgusting white sluts?

It so upsets me and I don't know what to think.  On the one hand, I can't stand the burka.  But on the other, I abhor the fat pigs with 3 boob jobs and trout lips and too many tats and not enough clothes.

so sorry, xL

I do so very hate silly flip flops on city streets, surely proper shoes are far more appropriate?

Trout lips? I've never heard them referred to that way before, ...but it's spot on.  I hate trout lips too!

There's something seriously disturbing about someone with trout lips, so much botox, they're expressionless, and so much dental work, they can no longer pronounce their words properly.
