First off, I know nothing about photography.
Someone recommended the Canon EOS 5D Mark II but another person said that the Canon Rebel T2i would be fine. ???

go to costco and get the eos t2i or similar kit. 800 bucks or so and you will be taking great pics.
the 5d is samn good if you want to spend that. or 7 grand for the 1d ;D

Depends what you are shooting for - if you are shooting for yourself, any camera that is small and takes great pictures would do. If you need some pics for a magazine, then you can start using a more expensive DSL.
I use a Canon 40D alot, but either buying the Canon 7D this weekend, or Canon 60D in two weeks or so. Isaac has a variety of cameras, but I think he also uses the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. However, the lense does matter, depending on what you shoot. Those lenses can cost as much as the camera does sometimes.
Price on these vary greatly - a Caon EOS 5D Mark II can cost about $2,200, while a 7D can cost about $1,600, as a 60D will cost $1,100.

My friend has a two year diploma in Film Production and is also very passionate about photography and that is the camera he chose. I tend to trust him as I do not know anyone else personally who knows cameras as well as he does. The only problem I see with the Mark II is that it would be too complicated for someone like myself who is not intent on becoming a photography expert any time soon. The way I see it, it is akin to driving a standard transmission vehicle. It requires more user intervention, but if you are capable of it, it will be better than the alternative [i.e., automatic transmission]. But that's the thing, I'm not willing/able to learn the camera as well as a pro.
I have heard very good things about the Canon Rebel T2i and basically my use for it includes pictures and videos inside the expo halls and of contests. I also may use it to film some of my gym workouts. Here is a test I saw on YouTube:
I'm not sure how good the sound quality is, but so far it would seem that this camera does what I need it to do. And price really isn't the issue, but I would only want to buy a more expensive camera if I was able to put it to good use.

By capitalism, I mean the system which protects private property, individual liberty, and economic freedom. The government's only role in such a system is essentially that of a watchdog to ensure that the elements above are protected. Things like welfare or bailing out businesses are not appropriate uses of government. We need not look far to see that the most successful economies in the world are those which have followed these basic principles. The USA is a mixed economy and at times regulation does work, but for the most part I am still convinced that capitalism as I described it [and not Michael Moore's strawman definition of it] is the best system. If you look at the particular areas of an economy that are strong, you will typically find the most elements of capitalism. A great article:

As I said, people are more careful with their own money than with the money of other people. My cameraman would not have just canceled minute if he was made to sign a contract to be responsible for the associated costs. With no responsibility, he had no incentive to care since it was my loss. Of course there is the moral incentive, but I believe capitalism works because I am not naive to human nature: People are not necessarily moral, or at least not always, but they do respond to incentives. From now on, I will be asking my assistants to sign a contract.

Shooting bodybuilding contests is never easy. If you are close to the stage you are looking up and this isn't the best perspective to shoot physiques. Near the front or in the audience there is always someone's head in front blocking part of the view. Somewhere in the middle of the audience and at waist level to the competitors is ideal. You will need a tripod because of the relatively low light levels. You might be better off being up in a balcony but at the front so no one obstructs your view. If near the back you will need a good telephoto and probably a zoom because you need to take shots of individuals then zoom out for comparisons.
The Canon 5DII is what I use and I have two of them. I would use the 70-200 most of the time for contests. If you are nearer the back then the 100-400 might work better. You can up the ISO to 800 on this camera and still get photos that don't show much noise. Shoot RAW plus jpg so you can change the white balance in processing.
If you want to enjoy the Olympia then don't watch it through a camera view finder! Let someone else take the photos.

A frame of 35 mm film is the equivalent of 25 megapixels. A 4 by 5 inch sheet of film in a large format camera is the equivalent of 17 frames of 35 mm film...I used to make photo murals.

The Canon 5D Mark II was sold out locally and also requires more user intervention than I wish to be undertake at this point in time [I am a beginner in terms of photography]. I do not have a press pass thus I will not have good seats to shoot the Olympia contest itself, so my primary concern is photographs and videos in the expo hall itself. That is, if I can get a cameraman. :-X

canon 5d mark 2 is my dream camera, but it is overkill if your not rich and are not going to photograf as a seroius hobby. T2i is better for you and spend som money in lenses (they are more important). a second hand 70-200 2.8 IS and a T2i is the same money as a 5d 2 and would be a awesome combo for bodybuilding shows. Another lens you should buy is the 50mm 1.8, its cheap, plastic and the quality sucks. but it produces awesome photos and only cost like 120 dollars.

I bought a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens on the recommendation of the department associate at the store after I told him what I would need it for and more.
I admit, this is a little last minute but at the same time, I am a beginner. And at this point, not even knowing if I will have someone with me to film interviews I planned to do [with Ron, Wiggs and more] I might not be able to put it to use until the Arnold.
I still hope I can go the Las Vegas and enjoy the expo, the free supplements and more.

thats a nice lens. Sharp and have IS and thats a big plus when the lightning isnt that good. You are going to be more than happy with that combo. But look for a 50mm f1.8, f4 on your lens is not going to be optimal when its darker. and cost only 120 euros. its a must have in your camerabag, great portrait lens

I hope it works out. It's just a starter camera and lens really, at least insofar as I can upgrade it later if necessary. I do think it can do the job though.

Adobe elements? Do you have the link? Basically, the first time around I expect there to be a lot of growing pains. By the Arnold I think I should be a little more efficient at it, and with time, I'm sure I can have some great photos.

Personally,I`d keep the beard as women are highly attracted to the rugged outdoor backwoodsy type who have beards and wear flannel shirts !!

elements is the little brother to photoshop, cheaper and easier for a beginner to handle. Every pro postprocess there photos. elements 8 is available in the less legal download sites ;)
another tip is to practise alot before the trip so you get the feeling about things like aperture and shutterspeed. Use the half-auto modes. always shoot with singlepoint focus, the auto sucks.

I think everyone likes the poor until they realize how many are able-bodied people taking advantage of the system, all the while, old-age pensioners who need assistance live in poverty.

Yes, that is true. I do think that if the trillions of dollars in welfare remained in the private hands of the people who earned it, that they [with their greater wealth] would be able to help people more, at least the people who truly deserve it.
There was $700,000 in food bank donations in the past year in my region. This goes to show me that people are willing to give to charity voluntarily and I believe that an economy can only function on the basis of voluntary cooperation. If people do not want to give to welfare, I believe it is their right to keep their private earnings to themselves. I think everyone has the right to keep what they earn.
My internet connection costs me $1. I could save the life of a starving child with that money. I would prefer to be on the internet and that is my right. Does that sound cruel? Yes. But it is a cruel decision millions of others share with me. It is their right to do so.
I just hope that American capitalism can survive. Canada essentially free rides off the American system and without it, we would not have the prosperity that we do.

you mean A-35? they get pretty good reviews, but the thing i like about nikon and canon is that it is so easier to get holds on a good secondhand lens than it is for sony. And they got so much more lenses to. You dont only buy a camera, you buy yourself into the whole line.

I had to shave it all! I will NEVER grow a beard again! I did it because I was considering laser hair removal surgery and I wanted to be sure I would never want a beard again. Well - I'm pretty sure I never want a beard again! That said, I'm still uncertain about the surgery because I know very little about it. Oh and I got a haircut too.
